Chapter 273: Scheming The End Of These Deities

Samael began explaining a sort of plan.

"From what I have gathered, after his defeat, Adam was taken away by two of his children. And I intend to find where they’ve taken his body."

"The one most likely to have my answer is the High God they call Mocles... apparently a record keeper who seems to have knowledge regarding their kind."

There was another pause as Samael let that information settle.

"I will discover this information from Mocles himself... and once that is done?"

His grinned deviously:

"We are killing every single one of them in this place."

The demon lords inclined their heads in unison.

——

Much later, Lilith entered Asahel’s residence in search of Samael.

She found him standing alone at the entrance compound staring idly away. She approached him slowly until she stood just a few paces away.

"I apologize for Orion’s behavior earlier," Lilith said. She conveniently chose to ignore the fact that Samael had placed his hand on Thera’s throat in the first place.

Samael didn’t turn to look at her immediately. Instead, he continued staring outward.

"It’s fine," he said calmly. "Perhaps I have to leave this place."

Lilith’s eyes widened immediately at those words, and she stepped closer to him at once.

"No," she said while taking his hand.

"You don’t need to leave."

"I want to make Eden a place for you," Lilith said earnestly. "A place where we can be together... away from all that bothers us."

"Even the dragons."

Samael turned his head toward her then and studied her face for several long seconds, then a warm smile spread across his lips.

Of course he had expected this reply from Lilith. He had only been trying to reassert her devotion by suggesting he might leave.

He was never going to leave this place. Not at least until everyone here carrying a fragment of transcendence had lost it all to him.

"Alright" Samael said gently as he reached out and placed one hand on Lilith’s cheek.

Lilith smiled at that, leaning into his touch with some sort of relief.

——

Within Thera’s temple, Orion sat quietly at her side as she leaned her head against his shoulder.

He held her in comfort, with one arm wrapped protectively around her shoulders while his other hand rested gently on her arm.

Both of them wore the same sad expressions.

Thera then suddenly sat upright, pulling away from Orion’s embrace.

"I’m leaving, Orion," she said.

"I wasn’t sure before, but what happened in that hall... I’m certain now. I want to leave."

Orion didn’t hesitate.

"Then I’ll come with you," he said immediately.

Thera turned to face him now and placed one hand on his shoulder.

"But first, we need to get the Grail. Then we find Gaia and Umgadi... and wake Father with it."

"Maybe then, we can reclaim our city back again."

Orion nodded. "How do you want to do that?" he asked.

"Right now, Lilith is occupied. She’s at the sanctuary of the one we do not name... with her stupid lover and those creatures from the pit."

"This is the best time to go into Lilith’s chambers," Thera continued. "I suspect the Grail might be there. We find it, and we leave."

Within the city’s range, Thera possessed a unique skill tied to her dominion over earth.

She could tell the placement of anything that touched the ground, a sort of seismic sense that allowed her to perceive her surroundings as precisely as normal sight itself.

It was through this ability that she knew exactly where Lilith currently was and exactly where she wasn’t.

"Then let’s set off," Orion said.

——

Not long after, Thera and Orion approached Lilith’s chambers.

Almost to the side of the entrance stood a female god dressed like a soldier.

This was Aveta.

She wore bronze and silver armor that covered her torso and limbs, with a short sword hanging at her side.

Her dark hair was tied back tightly, and her expression was serious as always as she stood guard near the entrance to Lilith’s chambers.

Lilith usually sent Aveta away, especially when she was about to have sex with Samael, but since none of that was currently the case, Aveta remained dutifully at her post.

Aveta was a very capable High God whom even the Archons respected for her skill and unwavering dedication to duty.

The moment Thera and Orion came into view, Aveta inclined her head respectfully toward them both before speaking.

"Lord Orion," she said formally. Then she turned her gaze toward Thera and added: "Lady Thera."

She paused briefly before continuing:

"At this time, the Goddess is not within her chambers. You may both return when she is back."

Orion took a step forward with his eyes locked onto the guard’s as he spoke firmly:

"Move aside, Aveta."

Aveta didn’t flinch or waver despite Orion being an Archon standing before her now.

"I’m sorry, Lord Orion, I will not be relieved of my duty."

Thera raised one hand gently and placed it on Orion’s arm, signaling him to halt.

Orion stopped immediately but didn’t take his eyes off Aveta.

Thera stepped forward instead and approached Aveta calmly then spoke:

"We know you would rather die on your place of duty than leave it, Aveta It was why the All-Father held you in high regard... and I know how loyally you served him."

Aveta’s expression softened slightly at those words, though she said nothing still.

Thera continued:

"I intend to save him, and for that to happen... I have to go into that room now, while Lilith isn’t around, and get the one item that will do the trick."

She paused once more before adding softly:

"Please."

Aveta stared at Thera for a moment, and after a while of silence, she nodded and said;

"I hear that there is a conflict breaking out in the garden of tears."

Then she made her face contort into a sort of frown. "Two gods, I can hear the sounds of combat from here. If their fight escalates further, it could endanger the structures we’ve only just built back."

Aveta straightened and placed one hand on the hilt of her sword.

"As one responsible for maintaining Eden’s peace, I must intervene before the situation worsens. I will return shortly to resume my duties here."

It was a plausible excuse that would justify her temporary absence without appearing to directly disobey Lilith’s orders.

Aveta inclined her head respectfully toward both Thera and Orion.

And walked away from Lilith’s chamber entrance without looking back.

Thera smiled as she watched Aveta disappear around a corner. This gave them time now

And Orion immediately said to Thera, "Go, quickly"

With that, Thera turned immediately toward Lilith’s chamber, while Orion remained standing outside near its doorway as if standing on the look out.
