Chapter 477: Chapter 466: Rainy Day

In the evening, a misty rain blurred the view.

Students holding umbrellas gradually gathered at the entrances of various academic buildings. All kinds of umbrellas dotted the road. From the silhouettes alone, it was hard to tell who was who, even upon closer inspection.

It wasn’t until everyone reached the entrance of the academic building and stood under the eaves that they closed their umbrellas and shook off the water. Only then could they make out each other’s features.

"I told you that was Zhong En and Zhong Xin!" Brother Nan had been muttering all the way.

"Yes, yes, yes..."

"Look at the umbrellas they’re carrying: the man with a flashy one, and the woman with a plain black one that’s huge..."

"Maybe they got them mixed up," Zhou Li said.

"The ground is wet, be careful not to slip," Brother Nan warned, pulling on him.

"Got it."

"Did your clothes get wet?"

"My pants did."

"Same here."

The wind by Dian Lake was particularly fierce, especially at night. People only enjoyed it when the weather was oppressively hot. Normally, it was chilling. On rainy days, it was even more annoying. Even if you had an umbrella, the wind would still manage to drive the rain onto you. If you didn’t close the windows at night, you’d likely find your balcony pooled with water the next morning.

Their classroom was 101, on the first floor. Classrooms at the ends of the halls were typically larger.

This class was attended by the entire grade. The teacher was there just to fulfill his duties. He was best known for reading straight from the PowerPoint slides, sometimes even pausing for a tea break. He rarely bothered with the students, even if the murmur from below swelled like a sea.

Zhou Li hung his umbrella on the windowsill outside the classroom, while Brother Nan leaned on the door frame, peeking inside.

"There are so few people today."

"Really?"

"It must be the rain and the drop in temperature. That’s why nobody feels like coming." Brother Nan lowered her voice. "This teacher isn’t great at lecturing either; he might as well play us some of those forum lecture programs. If taught well, this subject could be really interesting. It’s like our high school history teacher who always discussed heroes over wine—even someone like me, who hated studying, loved his classes."

"Are you talking about the math teacher?"

"Huh?"

"Let’s go inside..."

Zhou Li pushed her into the classroom. They headed towards the back, Zhou Li quietly noting those who sneakily glanced at his girlfriend, only sitting down when they reached the very last row.

About half of the students had shown up.

Even now, people were still pretending to look around casually while sneaking glances at Brother Nan.

It’s human nature to appreciate beauty.

Zhou Li saw but didn’t mind. Instead, he leaned close to Brother Nan and whispered, "Huai Xu bought a remote-controlled helicopter today. I tried it; it was pretty fun."

"I played with those when I was little."

"That’s nice."

"Didn’t you play with them when you were little?"

"No."

"What about remote-controlled cars?"

"No."

"Really? The cheapest ones were only twenty or thirty yuan, and you’ve never played with them?"

"Never bought any."

"TSK TSK..."

Brother Nan smacked her lips but said nothing, only adding, "I actually bought one too. It’s already arrived in Chenggong, but it hasn’t been delivered yet, probably because of the rain today. The delivery guy doesn’t want to bring it."

"You bought one too?"

"Yeah," Brother Nan nodded, "but I bought an excavator. It cost over a thousand and is this big!"

As she spoke, she spread her arms to show its size.

Zhou Li couldn’t help but look around.

Brother Nan’s voice was a bit loud, and they were already attracting enough attention. If people overheard them discussing remote-controlled helicopters and excavators, most would probably think they were immature.

But clearly, Brother Nan didn’t think so. She even went on to describe her plans for using it to Zhou Li.

"After the osmanthus tree outside our dorm died, that flower bed has been empty. But the soil is a bit hard, so my little excavator might not be able to dig it. I’m planning to bring some sand to spread over it. Then I’ll bring out my chair, lie in the sun, and dig with the excavator. Wouldn’t that be delightful?"

"Once I’m skilled at operating it, I know just the place. There’s a barren piece of land behind our school where our Supernatural Society used to have its adventures. I’ll take it there to play. That vast patch of land is just right for me!"

Caught up in her excitement, Brother Nan didn’t forget Zhou Li: "Do you want to join me?"

"I... I’d better not."

"What’s wrong? Don’t you like playing with excavators?" Brother Nan frowned at him. "It’s really fun, you should try it; you’ll definitely like it!"

"I might not..."

"Why? How would you know if you haven’t tried it?" Brother Nan pouted. "I’m only offering to let you play because you’re my boyfriend. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t lend it to them even if they begged me."

"Thanks..." Zhou Li hesitated. "But playing with this in college, wouldn’t people think I’m mentally undeveloped?"

"How could that be! At most, they’ll think you’ve retained a childlike heart!" Brother Nan blinked. "Besides, it’s just a personal hobby. It doesn’t affect anyone else. I’ll play how I want to play, with whatever I want. Why should I care about others? In the end, I’m the one who’s happy, not them!"

"I see..."

"When I’m older, I’ll get a small yard, buy a proper little excavator, a real one, and dig mud in the yard every day!"

"Got it..."

The class bell rang, interrupting their conversation.

The teacher squinted at the classroom, seeing only half the students had attended, but he seemed not to care. He opened the PowerPoint and began his lecture.

Zhou Li didn’t feel like listening, nor did he want to talk in the classroom, so he rested his chin on his hand, thinking about the book he had read that afternoon.

Now and then, he lowered his head to play with Tuanzi on his lap. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Brother Nan, meanwhile, was next to him, searching for little excavators, looking at them and comparing them repeatedly.

Sometimes she even leaned over to ask Zhou Li for his opinion, discussing it as if she were about to buy one right then.
