Chapter 476: Chapter 465: Remote Control Helicopter_2

The old monster was also incredibly patient, just watching Zhou Li play from the side and occasionally offering a few tips, even though she clearly wanted to play too.

On rainy days, it gets dark earlier—nightfall was visibly settling in.

Zhou Li checked his phone; he had a night class tonight, but it was that trashy night class.

Current Affairs & Policies.

It was still raining outside, pitter-pattering nonstop.

Zhou Li glanced at the old monster. She was still wearing his jacket, since she’d just gone out again to pick up another delivery—actually picked up more than ten packages this time. When she picked up packages, she was like some circus performer, balancing all sizes of boxes stacked high in her hands. The boxes were all mismatched, some even plastic bags, which made the pile unstable and likely to tumble. But in her hands, somehow, it was rock solid.

The chibi version of Huai Xu was pretty tiny, so his jacket looked all baggy on her, and it gave him that "I accidentally got myself a little sister" feeling.

Too bad his little sister was an old monster.

"I gotta go to class later."

"Go on, then."

"Give me back my jacket."

"You should grab a different one, this one’s all wet," Huai Xu didn’t even look up, "Let me wear it for a couple days."

"Oh."

So Zhou Li headed back to his room, found another jacket, draped it over himself, but as he walked back to the living room and stared at the rain outside, he wavered again.

This class is nowhere near as fun as botany;

The teacher doesn’t really do roll call either;

It’s raining;

It’s freezing;

Brother Nan probably won’t go either;

Learning spells lately is a huge pain;

...

Basically just making up reasons for himself to skip class.

Just then, his phone dinged with a notification.

Li Daimao: Zhou Li, you coming to class tonight or not?

Zhou Li: What about you?

Li Daimao: I don’t wanna go, but your Little Trash Cat probably misses you. Just now, after dinner when I was heading back to the dorm, she stopped in the road and kept staring at your dorm. I told her you weren’t there, and she only looked away after that—or she might’ve just gone over to your dorm to find you.

Zhou Li: Really??

Li Daimao: Why would I lie to you?

Li Daimao: You sound kinda hyped.

Zhou Li: Nah, not at all /cute

Li Daimao: So if you’re coming to class later, take her back with you.

Zhou Li: When have I ever skipped class?

Li Daimao: Wow, so impressive...

Zhou Li glanced at the old monster, quietly put on his jacket, and grabbed his phone to keep texting Brother Nan.

Zhou Li: So cold today

Li Daimao: Mhm

Zhou Li: Cats like to be warm, so you’d better pad Lord Dumpling’s box with some cotton, or put something soft and fuzzy in there. Or just let her sleep on the bed—she’s chill sleeping with you anyway.

Li Daimao: Scroll up and check—how many times have you sent me a text this long?

Zhou Li: /awkward

Zhou Li: I’m just worried about Lord Dumpling, ’cause she’s kinda weak, and you’re always the strong one.

Li Daimao: /smirk

Li Daimao: Chill, I got more cat-raising experience than you. She’s been all sprightly lately, parkouring around the dorm.

Zhou Li: Is she doing parkour now?

Li Daimao: Nope, she’s being super chill now.

Li Daimao: [video]

The video thumbnail showed a pair of long legs in light blue skinny jeans, stretched straight out, making them look even longer.

Zhou Li clicked it without thinking.

With the unmistakable "Bright Sword" dialogue in the background, the camera slowly panned down: Brother Nan was lounging on a recliner, using the dorm’s little bench as a footstool. She looked cozy, but those legs were so long her pants had become ankle pants, and as the camera moved, Zhou Li caught sight of her exposed ankles—snow-white and elegant.

’Must be freezing.’

Zhou Li thought, nearly about to type and ask why she wasn’t wearing socks.

But when her feet appeared in the frame, he saw a little cat stretched out perfectly still on top of Brother Nan’s feet—totally chill, not budging an inch, covering her feet with her whole body.

The little cat even cocked her head and glanced at the camera, looking all bright-eyed and clever.

Zhou Li froze right then.

She...

She...

How could she use Lord Dumpling as a foot warmer???

But he couldn’t bring himself to say it—not because he was scared of getting hit, but because he could actually see it in Dumpling’s eyes—

She was totally into it!

Loving it, even!

Zhou Li suddenly felt all kinds of ways.

Wait——

Zhou Li seemed to sense something interesting, so he replayed the video.

The video had background noise; you could faintly hear Little Cousin and Qian Qian talking, but their voices were a bit soft.

He turned up the volume.

Still not enough—Li Yunlong’s loud voice was drowning everything out, so he really had to focus to make anything out.

Problem was, he was trying really hard to listen, but the more he listened, the more his attention just kept drifting to Brother Nan’s long legs, so by the fourth replay he put the phone right to his ear—out of sight, out of mind.

"Qian Qian, have some candy." Little Cousin’s voice was soft and sweet.

"Mmm~~ thanks Baozi!" The tone sounded kinda fake, but hey, some girls just love to act that way with their besties.

"Is it good?"

"It’s good!"

"Can you spot me two grand...?"

"Ptooey~~"

That was the end of the video—pretty sure that last sound was Qian Qian, spitting out the candy Baozi had just given her.

Looks like Little Cousin also took quite a hit from Double Eleven.

Zhou Li shook his head.

In his ear, Huai Xu’s voice came through: "Your hearing’s going, huh? You’ve played it, like, four times—I got it on the first try."

And then—whoosh.

Huai Xu opened the big window up front, and a rush of cold air swept in, carrying the noisy sound of rain outside. She didn’t seem to mind the cold herself, but when she turned to see that Zhou Li still hadn’t left, she shut the window again.

"Aren’t you heading to class?"

"Oh, right, right..."

"Remember your umbrella."

"Got it."

"..."

About half an hour later.

Outside Brother Nan’s dorm.

Thanks to the awning, the dorm entrance was still pretty dry.

Soon, a tall girl in slide sandals appeared in his view, hugging a cat, slap-slapping her way over. She only had a thin T-shirt on top, so as the cold wind bit at her, she was all hunched over, and the little tuft of hair on her head drooped dejectedly.

"Here..."

Brother Nan casually handed him the little cat, but it kept squirming. She didn’t get a firm grip, and the cat slipped right to the ground.

Luckily, Lord Dumpling is a pro and landed steady as ever.

"Meow~~"

The fallen Dumpling let out a soft mew, glanced up at Zhou Li, then instantly turned around and crawled back toward Brother Nan.

After crawling a few steps, she suddenly paused, like she just realized that person looked kinda familiar, so she twisted around for another look.

Ah! It’s Zhou Li!

"Zhou Ni~~"

Finally, Dumpling happily scampered over to Zhou Li: "Lord Dumpling missed you sooo much!"

"I know, I came to take Lord Dumpling home," Zhou Li said, then turned to Brother Nan, who was still shivering in the doorway, "You’re a grownup and still don’t know to dress warmer? Planning to get another shot?"

"I’m not cold." Brother Nan took a deep breath.

"Sure you’re not," Zhou Li said helplessly. "You going to class tonight?"

"What class?"

"Current Affairs & Policies."

"Don’t want to. No attendance, anyway."

"Just go."

"..." Brother Nan thought about it. "Fine, I’ll go change."

"Put on something warm."

"Nag, nag..."

The girl clapped off in her sandals again, leaving Zhou Li alone under the tree, turning to watch the students passing by. The wind by Dian Lake was powerful; rain day wind felt like it went right through your clothes, and yet somehow he still felt all warm and toasty inside.

Brother Nan came back out pretty quickly. She had on a pair of combat boots and draped herself in a camo parka, all bulky and puffed up, but—surprisingly—she still looked good.

"Well? Is this warm enough for you?"

"..."

"Why aren’t you saying anything? Cat got your tongue?"

"I think you’re doing this on purpose. Your tone feels kinda provocative... so I’m just not gonna respond." Zhou Li replied honestly.

"That’s right, so what?" Brother Nan asked, looking confused.

"Sorry."

"Come on, move it! Hold the umbrella for your big bro."

The two of them quickly stepped out from under the awning, Zhou Li carrying Dumpling in one arm and opening the umbrella with the other. Brother Nan latched onto his arm, pressing close, striding fast through the rain—both of them quickly disappearing into the downpour.

The umbrella wasn’t huge, but it did the job just fine.
