Chapter 180: Tenth Ruin

West stared at the system notifications without a hint of disatisfaction because even if the system didn’t reward him as much for Aria anymore, she was still valuable... in ways far beyond points.

And as the night stretched on, they laid coddled up in each other arms, going on to have sex two more times.

...

...

~ Saturday ~

West stood just outside one of the outer buildings of the Dragon Fang Gang estate with his hands tucked into his pockets as he watched the group assembling in front of him.

A total of ten people stood ready for a ruin expedition... West, Jax and Nina included, alongside seven freshly recruited members from the Dragon Fang Gang.

Among them, there was only one familiar face... a youngster from the previous expedition, Derek.

The moment Derek spotted West, his eyes lit up like he had just seen a celebrity.

"Boss!"

He rushed over immediately.

"I didn’t know you’d be leading this one!"

West gave a small nod.

"Yeah."

Derek looked almost excited.

"This is gonna be easy then."

However, the others did not share his enthusiasm.

They exchanged glances as whispers and confusion spread in their midst.

One of them who was a tall guy with a muscular build and short cropped hair, folded his arms and frowned.

"...Wait."

He stepped forward.

"You’re the leader?"

His tone carried clear doubt but despite that, West looked at him calmly.

"Yeah."

The guy scoffed lightly.

"You’re joking."

A few others nodded subtly.

"Isn’t he like... our age?"

"And newly awakened too..."

"What kind of selection is this?"

Jax clicked his tongue slightly.

"Here we go..."

Nina simply stayed close to West with her arm lightly wrapped around his, unbothered while the tall guy stepped forward again.

"If you’re leading us, you better prove you deserve it."

West raised a brow.

"Oh?"

The guy smirked slightly.

"Arm wrestling."

A few of the others perked up.

"Yeah..."

"Let’s see what he’s got."

"If he loses, he steps down."

The guy pointed directly at West.

"If I beat you..."

"...you give me leadership."

A brief silence followed as Jax fought to hold back his laughter. His face displayed an expression that said ’You’re so screwed’ while Nina just shook her head slightly.

West, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate.

"Sure."

The answer came so easily that it caught them off guard.

"...Wait, really?"

West nodded.

"Yeah."

The tall guy grinned.

"Good."

A heavy concrete piece was dragged forward to serve as a table as both of them stepped up.

They locked hands in a tight grip while standing face to face.

"Ready?" Derek asked, clearly excited.

The tall guy smirked.

"Always."

West didn’t even bother responding, his charming face looked calm all the way.

"Go!"

The moment the signal was given, West hands moved without any delay.

BLAM!

The guy’s hand was driven straight down into the concrete so hard that the surface cracked slightly.

Everyone froze in silence.

"...What?"

The tall guy blinked.

"I—"

"I wasn’t ready!"

West shrugged lightly.

"Alright."

"Again."

The guy clenched his fist tightly as his eyes displayed a very intense glint... this time, he wasn’t taking chances.

A faint glow began to emit from his body as he activated his branch

His muscles causing bones wriggling sounds to ring out while his body expanded.

Within seconds, he transformed into a massive bear-like figure, nearly nine feet in size, towering over West and casting a huge shadow across the surroundings.

"Now we’re talking..."

Some of the others smirked.

"Yeah, this is more like it."

"No way he wins this now."

Jax folded his arms.

"...They never learn."

Nina just smiled faintly as the two locked hands again.

This time, the grip felt heavier.

"Ready?" Derek asked again.

"Go!"

West pushed again but there was resistance this time.

Cracks began to spread across the concrete as the two hands tousled against each other...

Just when everyone believed West was struggling and about to lose...

BOOM!

West’s hand slammed down again against the opponent but this time, the force was so overwhelming that the entire concrete slab beneath them exploded into splinters and fragments scattering across the ground.

The transformed guy’s arm hit the ground hard with his eyes widened in disbelief.

The transformation flickered before fading as he returned to normal.

"...No way..."

Silence spread across the surroundings for a bit.

"...Damn..."

"That wasn’t even close..."

"Did you see that?"

The atmosphere changed instantly as everyone else stared at West with both respect and shock.

West pulled his hand back casually.

"You done?"

The guy swallowed hard.

"...Yeah."

He stepped back without another word while Derek pumped his fist.

"I told you guys!" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Jax smirked.

"Took you long enough."

Nina leaned slightly closer to West.

"That must have taught him a lesson."

West just shrugged.

"Let’s move."

After that, no one questioned his leadership again so they went straight to briefing.

West laid out the structure of the ruins they were headed for, displaying it over a large digital device.

"This is how we get in... these are the routes we’re taking..."

He pointed at a strange looking mountain with paths that went above it.

"Stay in formation."

"No unnecessary risks."

"Follow instructions."

"Collect loot efficiently."

He spoke with a calm tone like he was already a veteran, shocking everyone because they were literally age mates.

They wondered just how many ruins he had already cleared.

Shortly after the briefing, they rolled out in convoys of multiple vehicles.

One was designated purely for loot collection personnel... non-combat support who would stay back and gather materials once areas were cleared.

West sat in the front vehicle while Jax beside him and Nina leaned comfortably against his shoulder.

Jax cracked his knuckles.

"Man... I’ve been waiting for this."

"Finally out to for a proper ruins clearing."

West glanced at him.

"You’ll get your fill."

Jax grinned.

"Hope so."

Nina, on the other hand, remained composed, though her fingers lightly gripped West’s sleeve nervously.

"I want to test something new today," she murmured.

West glanced at her.

"Oh?"

She nodded slightly.

"My third branch..."

West smirked faintly.

"Just don’t blow the mountain up."

She giggled softly.

"No promises."
