My Core is the Boss-Chapter 112.2: The Power of Great Supremes
[Huang Mengling - Level 119]
Huang Mengling raised a hand, and a golden edict appeared. "City Guardian, hear the decree!”
Qi Yuan blinked, not budging. She's looking for me? Why would I obey? And whose orders?
The air grew tense.
Then, Chen Huan shouted, "Senior Sister! Why are you here in Yuzhou? What's going on?"
Huang Mengling's face remained cold. "The situation between North and South is shifting. The Five Great Supremes have ordered that all city guardians in Yuzhou abandon their posts and head to Great Sorrow City within a hundred days to defend against the Northern Demon Tamers."
Chen Huan's expression tightened. Has the situation grown that dire?
In the next moment, he grinned shamelessly. "Senior Sister, any insider news?"
"Three new Supremes have appeared in the North on the Thousand Cities Battlefield," she said icily. "One of them is a Great Supreme."
"What?" Chen Huan paled. "A Great Supreme?"
A Great Supreme was a peak-level being, second only to the White Supreme and the Supreme One.
"How could a Great Supreme suddenly come to the Thousand Cities region?" he muttered.
That battlefield was small and insignificant, normally guarded by only a few Supremes. For a Great Supreme to appear was utterly strange.
"I don't know either. Leave the City of No Return at once and head to Great Sorrow City," Huang Mengling said coldly.
Chen Huan stared anxiously at Qi Yuan. "Big Brother, maybe we should go. If a Supreme descends, we're dead meat."
Qi Yuan, however, remained calm. "I'm not leaving."
He had guarded the City of No Return for years, he wouldn't abandon it.
Chen Huan grew frantic. "If you stay, you'll stand out like a sore thumb!"
Qi Yuan said flatly, "You can't persuade me. Stop trying."
Indeed, any sane person would retreat to Great Sorrow City, but Qi Yuan wasn't just any man, he was a player. He wasn't leaving the map.
Huang Mengling seemed surprised but said no more. "If he won't go, let him be. I must notify the other cities. Junior Brother, come with me."
Chen Huan hesitated, torn.
"Go," Qi Yuan said. The man was noisy anyway.
"No." Chen Huan clenched his jaw. "Senior Sister, go ahead. I'll stay."
Huang Mengling's gaze turned cold. "When the Thousand Cities retreat to Great Sorrow City, you'll be alone, with neither aid nor allies. Even if you two break through to Supreme, you'll still die."
Her warning was meant for Qi Yuan. She couldn't gauge his strength, but she assumed he was like Chen Huan, trying to use the city solitude to accumulate momentum and awaken an Origin Divine Technique. Such attempts rarely ever succeeded, and with a Great Supreme coming, even a newly ascended Supreme would die instantly.
With that, Huang Mengling transformed into a stream of light and vanished into the desert.
Qi Yuan watched her leave. "She's also a disciple of the White Supreme?"
"Yeah. She's my Senior Sister," Chen Huan said admiringly. "I've been in the White Supreme Palace for a thousand years and have never even seen the Master, but she has. Her grasp of the Origin is almost complete. She'll soon become a Supreme."
"Oh?" Qi Yuan's eyes lit up. "Then why don't you ask her to teach you the Origin? Wouldn't that help you ascend too?"
Chen Huan stared at him as though Qi Yuan was an idiot. "Even if she told me, it's useless! Comprehending the Origin can't be taught, it must be realized by oneself. Sometimes, I wonder if your head's screwed on right."
Qi Yuan was surprised. "Other people's teachings are useless? Aren't they helpful?"
When he'd lectured on cultivation in Nine Plate Mountain, several strong cultivators had gained insight into the Origin. If he had been talking about the Human-Demon Power at the time, he believed even more cultivators would be enlightened.
Chen Huan said, "If the Origin could be passed down by word, wouldn't everyone in the world be Supreme?"
Qi Yuan fell silent, thinking.

Twenty days later, Chen Huan rushed to Qi Yuan's side. He asked anxiously, "All of Yuzhou's cities have retreated. You're still not leaving?"
Qi Yuan sat firmly. "There is no hurry. By the way, do you know which Great Supreme came to the Thousand Cities?"
He remembered Wu Tong. When that man attacked, he carried a Supreme's Origin Divine Technique. The incident had seemed strange. Perhaps it was connected.
"The Purple Daoist," Chen Huan said gravely. "One of the strongest among the Great Supremes."
"Is that so?" Qi Yuan recalled the purple droplet, that schemer who'd targeted him before. Maybe it was the same person. Either way, an enemy was an enemy.
He pulled out a small notebook.
Chen Huan asked, "What are you doing?"
"Writing his name down."
Qi Yuan had to record his grudges somewhere. His memory sometimes failed, but grudges should never be forgotten.
"Haha!" Chen Huan laughed. "What? Are you going to pass that notebook down to your descendants so they can avenge you?"
He didn't believe Qi Yuan ever stood a chance against the Purple Daoist.
Qi Yuan declared confidently, "When I reach level 120, killing him will be as easy as butchering a dog,"
Although Little Bride allowed him to wield powers above level 120, he couldn't challenge a Supreme without an Origin Divine Technique.
Chen Huan scoffed. "That's a Great Supreme! Even if you train for thousands of years, you'll never win." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Qi Yuan thought for a moment. "You're right. I can't kill him for now."
"Exactly. So let's just run! Once we reach Supreme, then we can get revenge," Chen Huan urged again.
He himself doubted he'd ever reach that level, even after millennia. In the grand scheme, he was just dust. Even as a Supreme, still just bigger dust.
Qi Yuan said seriously, "Run? No! I need to draft a meticulous plan to hunt the Purple Daoist."
Chen Huan groaned. "...You're unbelievable. The gap between us and them is greater than the gap between us and ordinary mortals. As long as their Origin remains, we can't even scratch them!"
Qi Yuan insisted. "Just hear my plan. Once you do, you'll be amazed by my brilliance."
He usually would not have shared his plan with a NPC, but a part of his plan required Chen Huan.
Chen Huan smiled. "Okay, tell me about it."
Qi Yuan always felt that he wasn't good with words. "I need some time to think deeply and set up a proper plan. If I tell you directly, there might be flaws. It is better if I write it out."
He took out his pen and began scribbling furiously in his notebook. His expression was grave, occasionally frowning in deep thought.
Chen Huan stood by, half-amused, half-curious. Could this really be some genius scheme, using cunning plots to make Supremes kill each other?
Finally Qi Yuan straightened up, proud. "Done!"
He handed the notebook to Chen Huan. If he were on Blue Planet, beads of sweat (self-conjured for dramatic effect) would be rolling down his forehead.
Chen Huan took it and read it carefully. After ten seconds, he was speechless. "Are you kidding me?! This so-called 'plan' is utter crap! Even my great-great-great-granddaughter could come up with something better!"
Qi Yuan's 'plan' read:
Days 1-10: Teach Chen Huan the Origin and help him break through to Supreme.
Days 11-20: Seek out solitary Supremes. Chen Huan will slay them with his new Divine Technique while I oversee and take the final blow.
Days 21-100: Continue slaying Supremes to gain experience, comprehend the Origin, break through to Supreme, and finally kill the Purple Daoist.
After a long pause, Qi Yuan reflected and nodded solemnly. "I get it now. It's because I didn't label the difficulty levels! I'll fix that right away."
Chen Huan sighed. "Haa... Your plan is pure fantasy. Just the first step, teaching me the Origin and making me a Supreme is already impossible."
