My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 727: Daughter-in-Law Meets the Parents
「The next day.」
Dabao called Cai Xia after he sobered up. He learned she was at the airport and would be arriving in the evening.
They had discussed this meeting with his parents long in advance. Yet, as the time came, Cai Xia, the formidable diplomat who could keep her composure in any situation, found herself growing nervous.
"I’m worried your uncle and auntie might not like me..."
"That won’t happen. My parents respect my choices. Besides, you’re so outstanding. They were very happy when they heard about our relationship."
"But what if your brother and sisters don’t like me? What then?"
"You’re overthinking it. My family is just thankful I have a girlfriend in the first place. Why wouldn’t they like you?"
Cai Xia burst into laughter. "Got it. I’ll dress to impress tonight!"
"You don’t need to be so formal. It’s just a dinner to meet everyone." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Cai Xia appeared in a sharp professional suit, her attractive features and powerful aura drawing the gazes of those around her. When she got into the car, however, a rare girlish shyness showed through.
"Of course I need to be formal! First impressions are very important. I won’t say more. I’m getting in the car now, see you tonight."
Jingcheng isn’t too big or too small, and everyone has their own circles.
Cai Xia’s family lived in a certain villa community, which was also home to many powerful and influential people. Compared to the more ostentatious residences, their home was considered modest.
As soon as she entered the house, she dashed upstairs to her room.
The housekeeper hurried to inform Cai Xia’s mother.
Busy in the kitchen, Cai Xia’s mother wiped her hands. "I’ll go have a look."
Upon entering the room, she heard Cai Xia call out from the shower, "Mom, I’m going to meet his family today. What do you think I should wear?"
Cai Xia’s mother was aware of the meeting. She didn’t oppose her daughter’s relationship and had a favorable opinion of Dabao.
"Let me see..."
Cai Xia emerged from the bathroom with her hair already blow-dried. "Mom, have you picked anything out?"
Most of Cai Xia’s wardrobe consisted of fashionable women’s suits that looked serious without being too rigid. There were only a few dresses and coats.
Cai Xia instantly had a bad feeling. "Oh no, there’s nothing suitable..."
Her mother was speechless. "I told you to buy some new clothes when you had time! It’s been months. Where are they?"
Cai Xia was at a loss for words, looking pitiful. "I just haven’t had the time... What about this coat?"
In the end, her mother had to call a luxury brand and ask them to deliver their latest styles suitable for Cai Xia to choose from at home.
"Sigh, you’re such a handful." Cai Xia’s mother sighed again. "Let me see your jewelry."
Cai Xia’s jewelry was all from her existing collection, which consisted mostly of brooches.
Mother and daughter bustled about for the entire afternoon, finally settling on an outfit and accessories. Cai Xia twirled in front of the mirror, and both of them were very satisfied with the result.
Wealthy people traveled by private car with climate control, so there was no need to dress too warmly.
"Mom, I’m heading out."
"Mhm!"
Cai Xia grabbed her phone and hurried out to her car.
「Meanwhile.」
Cai Xia wasn’t the only one making busy preparations; Zhang Yuxi was as well. For this first meeting with her future daughter-in-law, Zhang Yuxi had already planned out her entire ensemble, from her clothes and jewelry down to her makeup.
Lin Feng and the rest of the family were ready and waiting for her alone.
"Honey, how much longer?"
"Don’t rush me, I’m almost done! Just a little longer!"
Finally, Zhang Yuxi achieved the look she wanted. She asked gleefully, "Honey, do I look good?"
Lin Feng nodded. "You look great."
Zhang Yuxi was dressed elegantly. Aside from a set of pearl jewelry, her attire was free of excessive adornment. Pearls... a classic choice beloved by women of a certain age.
"Wow, Mom, you look absolutely beautiful today!"
"No wonder it took you so long! You look amazing!"
Sibao, with his typically sharp tongue, added, "Mom, you look so young. Anyone who didn’t know would think you were my older sister."
Zhang Yuxi glared at him. "When we eat later, you’d better be on your best behavior. Don’t act like a monkey."
Sibao was baffled.
That’s going too far, Mom!
What Sibao said wasn’t an exaggeration. It wasn’t uncommon these days for sisters to have a large age gap.
Ten minutes after the family arrived at the restaurant, Cai Xia arrived.
Dabao stood up. "I’ll go get her."
Erbao, who was sitting next to Sibao, leaned in and whispered, "Little brother, even Big Brother has a girlfriend now. You need to step it up."
Sibao replied helplessly, "I’ve been trying..."
Erbao said, "Maybe you’re trying in the wrong direction. Try a different one..."
Sibao asked curiously, "Which direction?"
Erbao paused. "How would I know?"
So much for that conversation; it was completely useless.
Before long, Dabao entered the private room with Cai Xia, holding her hand. He led her around for introductions. "This is my dad, and this is my mom."
Cai Xia quickly greeted them, "Hello, Uncle. Hello, Auntie."
She was slightly surprised. They looked so young! And handsome... and beautiful...
But Cai Xia had seen much of the world, and she didn’t let a hint of her thoughts show on her face.
"This is my second sister, my third sister, my fourth brother Sibao, and this is our youngest sister, Xiaobao."
Cai Xia greeted each of them in turn.
Xiaobao, being the youngest, said after her greeting, "Wow, Big Brother Dabao, this sister is so pretty! Even prettier than the actresses on TV."
That one sentence made Cai Xia’s heart blossom with joy. She wouldn’t have thought much of it if someone else had said it, but how could she not be happy receiving a compliment from a member of such a good-looking family?
As they sat down to order, Cai Xia said demurely, "I can eat anything. I’m not a picky eater."
At her side, Dabao chuckled. His smile held a hint of mischief, as if he was about to call her out.
Cai Xia pinched him under the table, her eyes flashing with a playful glare.
They ordered the restaurant’s signature dishes. At the dinner table, Zhang Yuxi set aside her usual reserved demeanor and became much more warm and engaging. She asked Cai Xia about her job and some of her family circumstances.
Cai Xia was poised and graceful, answering every question perfectly. She simply had an impressive presence.
After dinner, as they were preparing to leave, Zhang Yuxi gave Cai Xia the gift she had prepared. Cai Xia tried to refuse it, but Dabao accepted it on her behalf.
"It’s from Mom. Just take it."
Cai Xia accepted the gift. "Thank you, Auntie."
As Dabao drove Cai Xia home, Zhang Yuxi watched them leave and remarked with a sigh, "That girl is really wonderful."
It was no joke. To be able to shoulder the responsibilities of a diplomat at such a young age, her abilities were undeniable, and her character was clearly excellent.
Turning her head, Zhang Yuxi glanced at Sibao. "You need to put in some effort, too!"
As Dabao drove Cai Xia home, he glanced at the gift. "Go on, open it."
Inside was a book.
Dabao was a bit surprised. He’d thought his mother would give her some expensive jewelry or something similar. He hadn’t expected a book.
Cai Xia already owned a copy of this book, but when she opened the cover, she was both shocked and delighted.
"It has the author’s personal signature!"
Dabao suddenly recalled something and smiled. "It seems my mom really likes you."
He continued, "My second sister has wanted this book for a long time, but Mom was reluctant to give it to her. And now, she’s given it to you."
Cai Xia was overjoyed but also worried. "Won’t your second sister be upset?"
Dabao laughed. "She’s not that petty. Don’t worry, just keep it."
Cai Xia held the book tightly. "I really love this gift! Please thank your mother for me."
