My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 722: Surprising News
Time hurried by, and in the blink of an eye, the new year was just around the corner. Once this year passed, it wouldn’t be long until their second daughter’s wedding day. Among their four children, she would be the first to get married.
"What? He’s not coming back? Why not?"
"His project is nearing completion. He can only come back after wrapping it up."
"It’s always the same excuse! When can we expect him? What about my daughter-in-law? Is it all off?"
When Zhang Yuxi learned that the Eldest couldn’t return to Meicheng for the New Year, she immediately drooped like a deflated balloon, unable to vent her frustration.
Lin Feng was also at a loss and could only console his wife. "It’s okay if he doesn’t come back; we’ll go to Jingcheng to find him."
"Besides, isn’t our second daughter going to Jingcheng? And it’s convenient for Lin Jie to get there from where she is..."
Zhang Yuxi perked up at this. "Good, let’s go to Jingcheng for the New Year!"
"The Eldest has been working so hard. We must prepare plenty of things for a proper New Year’s celebration..."
Lin Feng nodded. "Then I’ll book a hotel, get the private plane ready, and we can take everything we want to bring."
Zhang Yuxi finally smiled.
Once the hotel was booked, Lin Feng loaded up all the cured meats, leaving just a few cuts for themselves. In addition to the cured meat, Lin Feng’s homemade meat jerky, preserved fruits, sauces, and everything else prepared for the New Year were loaded onto the plane.
They were preparing gifts for Lin Jie’s family, Wen Xiaoya’s parents, their in-laws, the youngest child’s master, Dai Cong’s family, and others... but it still felt like it wasn’t enough.
"Having the plane is so convenient. We need to prepare some proper New Year’s gifts."
Buying gifts was a headache; one had to buy not only good gifts, but the *right* gifts. The cost wasn’t important; what mattered was getting it right.
Lin Feng had a few small jars of Wushan tea in his storage space. He planned to keep a couple for himself and gift the rest to his tea-loving in-laws and Dai Cong. Having interacted with the other wives before, Zhang Yuxi chose excellent gifts based on her impressions of their preferences. Lin Feng also took out a high-end, medical-grade hydrating cream that was about to be launched, for Zhang Yuxi to give to the wives.
Gifts for the men were much easier to choose. Things like antiques or calligraphy scrolls were always appreciated for their elegance, so it didn’t require much effort.
As Zhang Yuxi was inventorying their items, she suddenly smacked her forehead. "Oh no, we forgot the most important thing! The Eldest is bringing Cai Xia to meet us. We have to prepare a gift for their first meeting!"
Lin Feng realized he had almost forgotten about it as well.
"Should we give her jewelry, or that hydrating cream I just gave you? No, that cream isn’t right for her. She’s young, she doesn’t need anything for anti-aging or anti-oxidation."
"Don’t you have a lot of jewelry? Why don’t you pick one to give her as a meeting gift?"
Zhang Yuxi glanced at Lin Feng and asked hesitantly, "Wouldn’t that be too tacky? I feel like a girl like her might not like that sort of thing."
Lin Feng thought for a moment. "How about we ask our second daughter and Lin Jie? They’re young women, so whatever they choose is likely something Cai Xia would also appreciate."
Zhang Yuxi thought it was a good idea and hurried off to find her daughters. She returned less than half an hour later, sighing heavily.
"Lin Jie said we should just give her a red envelope. No one dislikes money."
"Our second daughter suggested some trendy jewelry. She said if I don’t have anything suitable, she has some she could offer."
Giving gifts to a future daughter-in-law was usually the prospective mother-in-law’s responsibility.
Feeling overwhelmed, Zhang Yuxi declared, "Fine, I’ll prepare both."
Suddenly, Lin Feng remembered something. "Don’t you have an economics book in your study, the one with the famous author’s autograph?"
Zhang Yuxi’s eyes lit up. "You mean I should give her that?"
Lin Feng felt it was worth a try. "Sure. I remember she studied economics and once said she really liked that author. You can give it to her."
This is better than any jewelry or money, Zhang Yuxi thought. But she was a bit reluctant to part with it! The autograph had been difficult to obtain, and she hadn’t even been willing to give it to their second daughter when she’d wanted it. Still, things were different now, and her perspective had changed. It wasn’t that she was completely unwilling to give it to her future daughter-in-law... she was just worried their second daughter might be upset. After all, she had begged her for it for a long time.
"I’ll go talk to our second daughter."
When their second daughter learned of her mother’s plan, she said it was perfectly fine. She agreed the book would be a wonderful gift for her future sister-in-law. Even if Cai Xia didn’t end up becoming her sister-in-law, a young woman like her was still worthy of such a thoughtful gift.
Seeing that her daughter didn’t mind, Zhang Yuxi happily wrapped the book in a gift box.
"I must keep this gift separate; it shouldn’t get mixed up."
She carefully placed the gift in her own suitcase and looked at it with satisfaction. With the gift sorted out, a heavy weight was lifted from her heart.
Once they were ready, the Lin family flew to Jingcheng. Lin Dashan and his wife had also wanted to come along at first, but on second thought, they decided not to cause any trouble. When the Eldest brought his girlfriend home later, they would get to meet her anyway.
After the plane arrived in Jingcheng, the family finally managed to move all their luggage, big and small, into the hotel with the help of the staff. Qin Jiang’s parents hurried over. Lin Feng had a habit of being spontaneous, so he had only notified them at the last minute.
In the past, Lin Feng’s parents took care of the New Year’s preparations. But as the children grew up, Lin Feng took charge of everything himself. Back then, the children were all still single, so just preparing good food and planning fun activities was enough. Now, that was no longer enough. He had to busy himself with arrangements both big and small. In the future, it would be even busier once all four of his children had found their partners.
How long they would stay in Jingcheng was uncertain, but at the very least, they had to meet Cai Xia, their prospective daughter-in-law.
「The day before New Year’s Eve, the family received a surprising piece of news.」
The ’Kuafu Jupiter Journey,’ a project the Eldest was part of, was set to launch from Xichang on New Year’s Eve, timed for precisely 8:08:08 PM. After years of work, the project was finally coming to an end. Lin Feng and his wife were both thrilled and excited.
Zhang Yuxi gleefully called her son. "I bet he can finally get some proper rest now! I’ll ask him when he’s coming back!"
Lin Feng sat nearby. Although his hearing was excellent, he still pricked up his ears to listen in.
"Mom, I can’t come back on New Year’s Eve, or on the first, second, or third day of the New Year. You and Dad just celebrate without me."
Zhang Yuxi’s smile vanished in an instant, her voice filled with disappointment.
"When will you be back then? The whole family is in Jingcheng waiting for you..."
Her son had been incredibly busy lately, only managing to call home two or three times a month. Each call was brief before he had to hurry back to work. They hadn’t even mentioned their trip to Jingcheng to him.
"You’re in Jingcheng? I’m not in Jingcheng right now, I’m over in Xichang."
"As for when I’ll be done... I’ll probably return to Jingcheng around the fifth or sixth."
Lin Feng tugged at his wife’s sleeve, signaling her not to convey her negative emotions to their son. Zhang Yuxi glared at him, but her tone was much lighter when she spoke again. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Okay, then. We’ll wait for you to come back, and we’ll wait for you to introduce us to Cai Xia."
It sounded like someone on his end was rushing him, so Zhang Yuxi quickly said, "You should get back to work. Mom’s hanging up now."
Her son replied hastily, "Alright. Happy New Year to you, Dad, and my sisters. And tell the youngest I’ll bring her a gift when I get back."
