Chapter 99: Chapter 99

At eleven o’clock, Alexander returned from outside, and we had lunch at home.

James drove us to the airport, where the secretaries were already waiting.

For this trip, Alexander had brought four secretaries.

In addition to Jane Smith, the Executive Assistant to the CEO, the other three weren’t aware of our relationship.

However, it seemed Jane might have briefed them, as the other three secretaries greeted me without any surprise, treating me like just another business traveler.

After checking in, we all headed to the VIP lounge to wait.

Alexander settled onto a sofa, and almost immediately, a staff member brought him a coffee.

I chose a sofa facing the floor-to-ceiling windows, which gave me a view of several planes parked outside.

I turned my head and saw Alexander engrossed in a financial magazine.

Looking around, the other passengers in the lounge were either reading magazines, books, or working on their phones.

The atmosphere was peaceful.

My phone vibrated twice.

Alexander looked up.

Catching his gaze, I smiled awkwardly and switched my phone to silent mode.

It was a WhatsApp message from Julian.

"Got any plans for the holidays?"

"Yes, I’m at the airport now."

"Where are you headed?"

"New York."

"How long are you staying?"

"About a week."

"I’m jealous! We only have three days off, and after that, filming starts again. Plus, I can’t even relax during those three days—I’ve got a promotional tour to do."

"That sounds tough."

We continued chatting casually.

Julian then asked, "So, how’s everything with your boyfriend? I thought you two were about to break up last time?"

I glanced at Alexander before replying, "We’re fine, no breakup yet. Still figuring things out."

Just then, someone walked up to Alexander. "CEO Hawthorne? What a coincidence! Where are you headed?"

I looked up.

It was a middle-aged man in a sharp suit, who, in his younger years, must have been quite handsome.

Alexander put down his magazine and shook the man’s hand. "Off to New York."

"Funny, I’m also going to New York on business."

With that, the man’s eyes shifted toward me. "This must be Miss Vivienne Sinclair?"

At the mention of my name, I nodded. "And you are?"

The middle-aged man studied me for a moment. "I’m Miles Blackwood. Isabella is my daughter."

"Ah, Mr. Blackwood. My apologies," I said, raising an eyebrow and speaking politely.

"No need to apologize." Miles waved it off.

Miles exchanged a few words with Alexander, but his eyes kept drifting toward me.

It felt a little strange, and I wondered if he was bothered by me because of Isabella. Maybe he was trying to figure out how to deal with me.

It was time to board.

We were flying first class.

My seat was by the window, next to Alexander.

As soon as I sat down, I heard a voice from the aisle. "CEO Hawthorne, we meet again."

I glanced over to see Miles sitting down in front of Alexander.

A few hours later, the plane safely landed at the airport in New York.

Miles waved us off as we parted ways.

Watching him walk away, I leaned in and whispered to Alexander, "Do you think he’s here to keep an eye on us?"

I couldn’t shake the feeling that something about Miles seemed off.

"Don’t worry about him."

Our secretaries brought our luggage, and the colleagues from the New York branch drove us to our accommodation.

Once we arrived, I hesitantly asked Alexander, "Aren’t we staying at a hotel?"

"They’re staying at a hotel. We’re staying here," Alexander replied.

By "they," he meant the other colleagues who had come to New York with us.

The place we arrived at was a detached villa area, small but elegant.

The landscaping was meticulously maintained, and the villa itself was beautiful.

I was taken aback by how luxurious the place was.

Seeing me staring at the villa, Alexander’s lips curled into a small smile. "Do you like it?"

"It’s gorgeous," I nodded.

"If you like it, you should come here more often," he said.

"Let’s see about that."

My response was a bit curt. Alexander raised an eyebrow. "What? Don’t want to come?"

“No, not at all... Did you buy this house?”

“Yeah, I travel here often for business, and staying in hotels wasn’t convenient.”

I nodded, understanding, and quietly asked, “So, whenever you come to see Miss Isabella, you stay here too?”

Alexander stiffened, then stepped forward to grab my hand. “I stay here. She’s never been here.”

“Why are you so eager to explain?”

“...”

Alexander had no response.

Seeing his reaction, I smiled brightly, teasing, “So when Miss Isabella comes to see you, you don’t let her in?”

“...” Alexander fell silent and changed the subject. “Let’s finish packing first.”

I looked at his expression and laughed mockingly.

In the past, hearing about him being with Isabella would’ve broken my heart, but at some point, I’d started to joke about him and Isabella.

Tessa Foster, the housekeeper, was helping organize the luggage.

I toured the villa, and when I came downstairs, I found Alexander sitting on the single sofa on the other side, peeling an apple.

The peel came off in one long strip.

He handed me the apple. “Try it.”

I took a bite. “It’s good.”

“Then eat more.”

“You eat it.” I handed the apple back to him and went to help Tessa.

The house was always kept clean, and the bedroom was spotless with freshly aired bedding. I packed my clothes into the wardrobe.

We didn’t bring much, and soon after, the secretary delivered some daily necessities that had been bought locally.

Once we settled in, Tessa made lunch.

To be honest, Tessa’s cooking was average.

So, I figured I’d better cook for us while we were in New York.

The flight from Virellia City to New York took several hours, and although we were in first class, being on a plane for so long was still uncomfortable.

After lunch, Alexander and I took a walk around the neighborhood. We passed several locals who nodded and greeted us.

While we were out, Alexander received a call from his secretary and had to head to the branch office.

I returned to the bedroom to rest, and when I woke up, it was already evening.

I checked my phone and saw a message from Alexander: “Are you awake? Let me know, and I’ll send someone to pick you up. We’re having dinner outside.”

I replied to Alexander, got up, and changed into something suitable for the weather.

Soon, a secretary arrived in a car to pick me up.

Alexander’s villa wasn’t far from the city center—it took about half an hour by car.

As I sat in the car, looking out at the passing scenery, I got a little lost in thought.

Vanguard Global Enterprises had many branches worldwide, and the New York office was a rising powerhouse with significant influence on Wall Street.

It was Alexander’s impressive speech on Wall Street that first caught the attention of the entire industry.

At the time, I was just an eighteen- or nineteen-year-old girl, having watched countless romantic dramas, full of longing for love.

Now, I’m twenty-five, married to Alexander for three years, and facing a relationship crisis.
