My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 70
Under everyone’s watchful gaze, I cleared my throat and said, “Twenty centimeters.”
“Really? That long?” someone asked.
Laughter erupted around the room.
Absentmindedly, I spun the bottle, planning to ask my question and then pull away from the game. But of course, the bottle’s neck landed directly on Alexander.
In an instant, our eyes met.
“CEO Hawthorne, truth or dare?” I asked, looking at him.
“Truth,” he replied.
If it weren’t for the setting, I would’ve liked to ask him if he’d ever had even the slightest bit of feelings for me.
Around us, everyone was shouting out questions.
Some asked about Alexander’s... length.
Others inquired about the age of his first time.
There were even questions about how many women he had slept with.
I knew about his length, but beyond that, there really wasn’t any need to know more. While I didn’t have the right to interfere with his past, some things were better left unknown—ignorance is bliss.
As for most of the other details about Alexander, I already knew, so I decided to ask something I didn’t.
After a moment of thought, I asked, “How did you meet Miss Isabella and end up together?”
The people around us leaned in, eager to hear his story.
Alexander’s gaze flickered for a moment before meeting mine. My heart skipped a beat, and the room fell silent.
After a brief pause, he slowly answered, “We met through a campus event where we had to collaborate on a performance. After the show, we got together.”
“Was it love that developed during rehearsals?” someone asked.
“Mm.”
So that was it.
A strange mix of emotions stirred inside me.
College romances were always pure and unforgettable.
Before I fell for Alexander, I had dreamed of having a passionate university romance.
But after falling for him, that dream was shattered.
By the time I was in college, he had already graduated and joined the company. I was always chasing after his footsteps.
As Isabella had said, she had walked alongside him through the years of youth, which was probably why their bond ran so deep.
After that, I continued playing for a few more rounds.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated twice, signaling a WhatsApp message. Seeing that I wasn’t involved in the current situation, I picked up my phone and glanced at it.
It was from Alexander.
He wrote, “You forgot to add one centimeter earlier.”
The moment I saw those words, the melancholy I’d been feeling evaporated, replaced by something lighter.
While I hadn’t blushed when everyone else had been teasing me, I couldn’t help but turn red now. I shot Alexander a subtle glare, sent him a bomb emoji, and locked my phone screen.
During games like this, everyone loves seeing the boss make a fool of himself, and this group was no exception. They kept thinking of ways to get Alexander into embarrassing situations—and, once again, they succeeded.
Director Nora was already plotting to ask the girl if they knew each other.
If they did, it would easily rule out the question.
But Alexander didn’t give him the chance to ask. He chose dare instead.
A kind-hearted male colleague proposed, “CEO Hawthorne, pick up the fifth girl on your left and do twenty squats. How about that? It’s easy enough.”
It sounded much less ridiculous than some of the previous dares.
But who was the fifth girl on his left?
Someone in the group quickly shouted, “It’s Director Vivienne!”
“Director Vivienne, could you help out?”
“Director Vivienne, your boyfriend won’t mind, will he?”
Alexander had already gotten to his feet. “Vivienne, come over here.”
I stood up and walked toward him.
He effortlessly picked me up in his arms and began doing squats.
I held onto his neck with both hands, not daring to move an inch.
Twenty squats were quickly completed.
His breathing didn’t even falter, only becoming slightly heavier, his warm breath brushing against my face.
Director Nora couldn’t help but sigh. “CEO Hawthorne has it too easy. This is way too simple for him!”
“Do it again! Do it again!”
The game of Truth or Dare continued until four in the afternoon.
Everyone was exhausted but happy, and they all headed home for a long nap.
Violet and the others accompanied me back, and on the way, I received another WhatsApp message from Alexander.
“Would you like to come over and soak in the Blue Lagoon?”
I could already guess what he was thinking, so I immediately replied, “No, I need to rest.”
“Are you sure? There’s only tomorrow left here. Are you really planning to lounge in the big pool?”
I hesitated for a moment before replying, “I’ll go for a soak after dinner.”
“There’s food residue at the bottom of the pool. The official announcement says no eating while soaking.”
Alexander was concerned I’d eat and sneak away afterward.
“Alright, I’ll go after I eat.”
I leaned back against the headboard and briefly scrolled through my phone.
Isabella had a trending topic: #IsabellaBlackwood German#
Curious, I clicked on it.
After returning to the country, Isabella had appeared on a variety show, and today, the episode aired.
The trending clip showed Isabella introducing herself and saying she could speak German.
The other guests encouraged her to speak a few sentences, and Isabella said, “Let me tell a story in German.”
She then launched into a stream of German.
It sounded somewhat familiar, probably because I’d heard Alexander tell German stories so many times.
Isabella said, “This is a classic fable, The Crow and the Fox.”
“A crow stole a piece of cheese. It perched high on a tree, intending to eat it.
“But, as crows do, it couldn’t stay silent while eating. The sound of the crow munching on the cheese caught the attention of a passing fox. The fox, sly as ever, approached the crow and said, ‘Oh, crow, I’ve never seen a bird with such beautiful feathers and graceful form!’”
"If you also had a lovely voice and could sing beautifully, everyone would surely choose you as their king and make you the leader of all the birds." The flattery and compliments made the crow’s heart flutter with desire. It desperately wanted to show off its beautiful voice! But just as it opened its mouth to sing, the cheese fell, and the fox quickly snatched it up, mocking the foolish crow as it ate.
"Everyone must have heard this story," one of the guests chimed in.
"Yeah, I remember it from elementary school," another added.
The host then asked, "Miss Isabella, you’ve spent the last few years in France. Why did you decide to learn German? Was there a special reason?"
My heart sank. I had a bad feeling about what Isabella was about to say.
Isabella smiled lightly. "Actually, I learned it from a friend. He speaks four languages—Chinese, English, Japanese, and German. Whenever I couldn’t sleep, he would tell me German stories."
The guests all nodded, exchanging knowing "ohs."
Just as I feared.
I tugged at the corner of my mouth, a dull ache rising in my chest.
So, I wasn’t the only one listening to his German stories.
Even the German stories were left over for Isabella.
Suddenly, I felt like laughing.
Earlier, during Truth or Dare, I had secretly relished the thought that Alexander and Isabella hadn’t been physically involved.
I was such a fool. Even if they hadn’t been intimate, what did it matter?
Alexander loved Isabella. He poured all his gentleness, patience, and passion into her.
I had spent three years married to Alexander, but what was the result?
The result was that he didn’t see me as a wife, but as a kept mistress, someone he could trample on at will.
I had his body, but not his heart.
In a self-destructive moment, I opened the OTP fan Twitter hashtag.
There was a new topic.
A fan had found a video online of Alexander giving a speech in German, proving that the friend Isabella mentioned was, in fact, Alexander.
OTP fans were going wild.
Every time Isabella couldn’t sleep, he would tell her German stories. Ahhh, this was the kind of fairytale love you only read about in books!
But every time she couldn’t sleep, he told her the same stories. And here I was, feeling like a joker.
