My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 102
After dinner at Bella’s house, we sat and chatted for a while before Alexander drove me back to the hotel. He had to rush back to New York that night.
I stayed at the hotel for one night, and the next day, I headed to the airport and flew back to Virellia City.
The vacation was over.
I didn’t notify James, but I let Gabriella know, asking her to take a cab to the airport to pick me up.
After getting off the plane, I met Gabriella, and we went straight to the hospital for my prenatal check-up.
I was already fourteen weeks pregnant, and the ultrasound showed that the baby had started to take shape.
The doctor pointed at the screen for both Gabriella and me to see. “This is the baby’s hand, here’s the foot, and this is the head. The eyes and nose are hard to distinguish at this stage, but everything looks healthy, and the baby is developing well.”
Gabriella smiled cheerfully.
When the check-up was over and I was leaving the examination room, the doctor gave me some advice. “During pregnancy, you should be careful with intimacy, as it can affect the fetus.”
I blushed, mumbling a quiet agreement.
On the way back, Gabriella urged me to tell Alexander about the pregnancy.
I remained silent, unmoved.
Back home, I tidied up a bit, rested for a while, and then went to Ashford Manor to visit my grandparents.
The next day, I returned to the office.
I was working in my office when I suddenly heard footsteps and a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
The assistant quickly pushed the door open. “Director Vivienne, there are two police officers outside. They said it’s about...”
Before she could finish, two uniformed officers walked in and presented their credentials.
The man on the left spoke first. “Are you Miss Vivienne?”
I was startled, set my work aside, and stood up. “Yes, that’s me. May I ask what this is about?”
“One of your company’s employees reported a leak of business secrets. There’s a suspicion that you might be involved. We need you to come with us to the station for further questioning.”
Within seconds, several people had gathered outside my office door—the secretary who made the report, a deputy director talking with the police, and a few other employees craning their necks to see into the room.
The employees outside had already lost focus on their work and were whispering to each other.
“May I ask what confidential information was leaked? Where did it come from? And why do you suspect I’m involved?” I asked, trying to remain calm. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The secretary stepped forward with an apologetic smile. “Director Vivienne, here’s the situation. The new industrial park project in Solara Bay’s new district is nearly identical to our commercial real estate group’s project plan. Director Jaxon Aldridge suspects an internal leak and reported it to the police. After reviewing the surveillance footage, it was found that on September 27th, at 11:40 AM, CEO Hawthorne left the office. At 12:13 PM, you entered his office and stayed until 1:24 PM...”
I pressed my lips together, uneasy.
That day, Alexander had a social engagement. He went to his lounge to rest for a while. I hadn’t expected to be dragged into this.
The police officer then asked, “Miss Vivienne, why were you in Mr. Alexander’s office when he wasn’t in the company?”
“CEO Hawthorne is my brother, and he’s always looked after me. Before he left, he sent me a message telling me I could use his office lounge to rest during lunch.”
I showed the officer the chat history from that day.
The officer glanced at it briefly. “But this doesn’t prove your innocence, Miss Vivienne. Please come with us to the police station.”
Jaxon stepped forward, speaking to me calmly. “Director Vivienne, we don’t know who the suspect is yet. You’re not the only one under investigation. Don’t worry, the police will get to the bottom of this. If you’re innocent, they’ll clear your name. If not, the company will take further action.”
“Alright, I’ll go with you,” I replied, feeling my nerves tighten.
I shut down my computer, grabbed my bag, and walked out with everyone.
The two officers flanked me, one on each side.
One of them exchanged pleasantries with Jaxon, saying, “Don’t worry. We’ll investigate this thoroughly.”
At the police station, my phone was confiscated, and I was led into an interrogation room.
An officer sat across from me and started reviewing the surveillance footage from that day. He asked carefully, “Miss Vivienne, why did you go to the CEO’s office? Were you aware that Mr. Alexander wasn’t in the company when you went?”
I answered, "I know. I went to his office to use the lounge for a nap, and he gave me permission."
My phone was lying nearby, and the officer scrolled through the chat history from that day. After flipping through a few pages, he asked, "What’s your relationship with him?"
"I’m his wife."
The officer glanced at me before stepping out.
I was left alone in the room.
Although I could prove that I had gone to Alexander’s office with his consent, there was a period when I had been alone in the office—an undeniable fact. Until the real culprit behind the leak was found, it would be hard to clear my name.
But there was no evidence linking me to the crime, so by law, they had to release me within twenty-four hours.
Yet, twenty-four hours wasn’t as easy to endure as it seemed.
The interrogation room was bare—just a simple table and a couple of chairs.
I leaned back in my chair, resting my elbow on the armrest, one hand propping up my head.
I don’t know how long I stayed like that, but eventually, I stood up to stretch, then sat back down.
The room was incredibly quiet.
So quiet, it was almost unsettling.
By noon, someone brought me a simple meal and a bottle of mineral water.
I didn’t have much of an appetite, but for the sake of the baby, I forced myself to eat a little.
After eating, I rested my head on the table, feeling drowsy.
Sleep didn’t come easily in such an environment. I drifted in and out of a half-conscious state.
I opened my eyes and saw the sun still high in the sky.
Time really dragged on.
The lights in the interrogation room stayed on around the clock, and the cameras were constantly running.
Even when it was pitch dark outside, the room stayed brightly lit.
I sat in the chair, hugging my knees, chin resting on them, staring blankly ahead.
Quietly waiting.
As time slowly passed into the early hours of the morning, I could no longer stay awake. My head drooped, resting on my knees as I dozed.
At some point, I thought I heard the door creak open.
Groggily, I lifted my head, rubbed my eyes, and asked, "Can I leave now?"
"Yes," came a man’s voice.
I looked toward the door, realizing it was Alexander. I froze for a moment.
Alexander stepped closer. "Surprised? Don’t recognize me?"
I pulled my arms and legs from the table, pushed myself up, and whispered, "How did you get back?"
"Let’s go," he said, taking my hand.
I followed him to the door and, suddenly realizing something, asked, "Did you figure it out? Can I leave?"
"You can leave. The rest will be handled by the lawyer."
"Oh."
