Chapter 75: I’m... human...?

Noah reached out and placed his open palm directly onto the head of the shadow figure.

A gentle golden wave bursted from his hand. It was not the violent, destructive energy from before, but a soft and rhythmic pulse that washed over the entity like a warm tide.

As the wave moved down the creature’s body, the black smoke began to vanish.

From head to toe, the thick, oily mist rapidly disintegrated into thin air, erased by the golden wave.

What was left behind was a woman with low, chin-length brown hair.

She was completely naked, all of her womanly curves and assets revealed before Noah.

Noah’s eyes widened, and the composure he had maintained throughout the battlefield shattered in an instant.

If not for the mask that was still on him, his bright red face would have been revealed to everyone.

He quickly turned his eyes away, snapping his head to the side with such force that his neck nearly cracked.

The golden hands that had been suspending the woman in the air dissolved immediately.

The energy sparked once and then vanished into the atmosphere, leaving nothing behind to support her weight.

She dropped to the ground, grunting slightly.

However, she did not try to cover her nakedness as quickly as one would expect, neither did she scream.

Instead, she sat there in the dirt, staring at her own hands in a state of complete disbelief. She turned them over slowly, watching the way the light reflected off her pale skin, as if she were seeing her own flesh for the first time in centuries.

Noah was still extremely flustered, his breath coming in short, uneven hitches.

"S-sorry..." he mumbled, his voice cracking slightly.

He refused to look back in her direction, keeping his gaze fixed on the huge mountain wall of ice.

"I didn’t... know you were a woman..." he said, his words coming out clumsier than he intended.

He reached up and quickly began to unbutton the jacket he was wearing, flinging it towards the woman.

The garment sailed through the air and landed on the woman’s thighs.

It was one of his best sets of clothes, a piece he had specifically chosen to wear today to at least look more presentable as Mr White.

But now, it was being used as a makeshift blanket for a defeated enemy.

The woman, however, did not quickly take the jacket to fully hide her nakedness.

She barely even seemed to have notice the fabric draped over her.

Her eyes remained locked on her hands, her fingers trembling as she touched the skin of her own forearms.

"I’m... human...?" she muttered, gasping in disbelief.

The realization seemed to hit her with more force than any of Noah’s attacks.

For a long time, she had been a shadow—a creature of void and nothingness that merely killed when asked to.

To see her own skin, to feel the bite of the cold air, and to realize she was flesh and blood was a shock that paralyzed her mind.

"Cover yourself, damnit!" Noah snapped.

His voice was still high-pitched with embarrassment, his face burning beneath the mask. He adjusted his stance, trying to regain some semblance of the dignity he had lost the moment the shadows disappeared.

Noah looked ahead, past the towering wall of ice and the broken ground.

There, in the distance, was a large crowd of people.

They were standing at the edge of the destruction, a sea of faces staring at him with a mixture of absolute awe and bone-deep fear.

They had witnessed the birth of the ice mountain and the erasure of the shadow, and now they looked at Noah as if he were a god descended to earth.

He took a deep breath, his voice regaining its steady, authoritative edge.

"You can come out now, Yuan," he said.

As soon as he spoke, the guild master made his way out of the dense crowd.

He moved with cautiously pace, gulping with his eyes fixed on Noah.

When he got closer, he stopped and bowed deeply.

Noah glanced at him, his voice returning to its sharp, indifferent tone.

"I’ll be leaving... this woman in the care of the guild for now," Noah said.

He gestured vaguely behind him toward the seated figure, still refusing to turn his head fully in her direction in embarrassment.

"Make sure she doesn’t escape," he added.

His words suddenly turned cold, dropping several degrees in temperature. The air around him seemed to thicken with a lethal intent that made the nearby spectators catch their breath.

"I hope this attack isn’t connected to the adventurer guild," Noah said, his voice echoing with a low, vibrating threat. "Because if it is..."

He didn’t finish the sentence. He didn’t have to.

As he spoke, crystalline frost spontaneously appeared in the air around him, swirling in a miniature blizzard that defied the natural wind.

Yuan shivered violently at the sight, feeling like countless ice needles were prickling his throat.

Any slight mistake from him, and Noah could end his life without batting an eye.

He bowed even lower, his forehead nearly touching his knees as he scrambled to respond.

"No!" Yuan shouted, his voice cracking with desperation. "The adventurer guild needs you! We would never do anything that would harm you or turn you against us, Sir White! Please, believe us!"

Noah shifted his weight, his movements appearing hurried and impatient to the onlookers.

"Whatever," Noah said, waving a gloved hand dismissively. "I have wasted too much time here. I have things to attend to."

On the outside, he remained the picture of composed, god-like power. His stature was tall, his mask was inscrutable, and his aura was overwhelming.

But in reality, he was panicking inside.

His heart hammered against his ribs, and he broke into a cold sweat, especially as he stared at the rag before him.
