My Billionaire Ex Beg For A Second Chance-Chapter 85: Stay A Little Longer
Soft sunlight came through the curtains in the twins’ room at Felix’s. Toys were still scattered all over the floor. Katherine sat cross-legged on the bed, folding a tiny pink cardigan in her lap with a quiet sigh. The room smelled faintly of baby powder and a touch of lavender from the oil diffuser Felix had tucked in the corner.
She had come here to gather the rest of the twins’ things before heading back to her apartment. A few books, socks that always disappeared in pairs, Nathan’s beloved dinosaur plush, Maya’s sketchbook with its rainbow scribbles. But she hadn’t moved for a while now. The pile of folded clothes sat by her side, forgotten.
Felix had told her earlier today, with that calm voice of his, that she didn’t need to come into work—that she should take the day off and rest. So here she was. Sitting in this room that felt oddly like a second home, surrounded by her children’s laughter still echoing faintly in the walls.
And yet, her mind was elsewhere.
Leonard.
She hated it—how her thoughts kept circling back to him like a moth drawn to a flame it should have long since learned to avoid. The way he had looked at the twins today, his hand gently wiping Nathan’s cheek, his voice soft when speaking to Maya. It wasn’t forced. It wasn’t awkward. It was...natural. Almost heartbreakingly so.
And for the first time in years, he didn’t deny them. He hadn’t tried to wiggle out of responsibility or distance himself. If anything, he had stepped forward. Confidently. Deliberately.
But that was the problem, wasn’t it?
He made it look so easy, like years hadn’t passed without him. Like he hadn’t walked away.
The soft knock on the door jolted her from her thoughts.
She looked up, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "Yeah?"
The door opened, and Felix leaned his shoulder casually against the frame. He wasn’t in a suit anymore—just a plain white shirt with sleeves rolled to his elbows and dark slacks. His usual polish gave way to something more relaxed, something quietly warm.
Katherine arched an eyebrow. "What are you still doing here?"
Felix stepped inside with an exaggerated offended look. "Sorry for existing in my own house."
A small laugh escaped her as she tossed a rolled pair of socks into the basket. "I meant—it’s already past lunch. Aren’t you going back to the office?"
He dropped onto the edge of bed, the mattress dipping under his weight. "Nuh uh. I never planned on going back."
She gave him a sideways glance. "You’re skipping work?"
"My secretary’s not there." His lips quirked with a teasing grin. "She said she’s off for the day."
Katherine chuckled, shaking her head. "She’s just following her boss’ orders."
Felix leaned back, resting his hands on the bed behind him. "Good. Smart woman."
A beat passed between them, comfortable but thoughtful.
Then Felix’s expression shifted, growing more serious. "Can I ask you something? I hope it doesn’t upset you."
Katherine looked up at him, her eyes cautious. "Okay..."
"What are you going to do about Leonard Ford?"
Her spine stiffened. Her fingers froze on a tiny t-shirt she had been folding. Felix’s tone wasn’t accusing, but the question still made her gut twist.
Felix continued, voice low and even. "I just... he doesn’t seem like he’s going to back off. And I get it. He’s their father. But the other day, Nathan asked me where his dad was. I didn’t know what to say."
Katherine slammed the folded shirt a little harder than necessary onto the stack. "I don’t know, Felix. I really don’t."
Her shoulders hunched as she exhaled. "It’s not like I didn’t see it. The way Leonard acts around them now—it’s kind. He’s patient. He listens. And he didn’t even hesitate to claim them. That part of him... it surprised me. In a good way. But something still feels off. I just— I’m not ready to be comfortable with him. Not yet."
Felix nodded slowly, his voice gentle. "That’s fair. You’re not obligated to forgive him overnight just because he showed up with a smile and a hug."
Katherine met his eyes, her own clouded with hesitation. "But the twins like him. It’s going to get harder to draw the line."
"Then don’t draw it all at once," Felix said simply. "Take your time. Don’t let anyone rush you—not him, not even the twins."
She looked at him gratefully, and Felix offered a small smile.
To lighten the mood, he tilted his head toward her. "Anyway, it’s been a while since you’ve been here."
Katherine blinked, caught off guard by the shift in tone. "What?"
"My house," he said, motioning around. "It’s been a while since you’ve been in it."
She chuckled softly. "Yeah... guess it has."
Felix leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees. "You should come more often."
She raised a brow. "Why’s that?"
He shrugged, almost playfully. "Well, the twins love it here."
"That’s true." Katherine smiled faintly, picking up Maya’s stuffed bunny and gently patting its ears straight.
Felix’s next words were quieter. "But I think they’d love it even more if you came, too."
The warmth in Katherine’s smile lingered, a softness blooming in her chest she didn’t entirely expect. She glanced at Felix, and for a second, it was just the two of them in the quiet cocoon of the room. She felt a strange pull—something steady, comforting.
She opened her mouth to say something—maybe a thank you, maybe something more—but Felix beat her to it.
"And, well," he said, his gaze holding hers a second longer than usual, "I’d like it too. Actually... I’d probably like it the most."
The silence that followed wasn’t awkward. It was warm. Katherine felt her cheeks flush slightly, but she didn’t look away.
She didn’t need to answer. The smile that tugged at the corners of her lips, the way her fingers paused mid-fold, the softened look in her eyes—those were answer enough.
