My Billionaire Ex Beg For A Second Chance-Chapter 58: Silly Grin
They had already tried a few rides by now—nothing too wild, mostly the fun, family-friendly ones. Thanks to the express ride passes that came with their VVIP tickets, they didn’t have to wait in any long lines.
But very time they walked past the regular queue, Katherine could feel the stares. It wasn’t the special treatment, she believed. But it was the looks. People were staring. Not at Felix or the kids.
At her.
To be precise, at the headband on her head.
It sparkled in the sunlight like it had caught fire. It was elegant. Too elegant, maybe. Too out-of-place for an amusement park.
Katherine glanced to her left, adjusting the strap of her small shoulder bag, then subtly pulled down the headband as if lowering its profile might help. "People are staring," she mumbled under her breath.
Felix turned to look at her, amusement already tugging at the corners of his lips. "Of course they are," he said with a shrug, grinning. "You look gorgeous."
She rolled her eyes, though her cheeks burned with color. "Don’t be ridiculous."
"I’m not. They’re either jealous or stunned by your beauty. Maybe both," he replied smoothly, the same annoyingly kind and sweet smile playing on his lips as he slipped his hand casually into the pocket of his pants.
They had just entered the section of the park with the classic carousel—a big, beautiful ride with gold and red trimmings, and horses with jeweled saddles that spun to the tune of whimsical music. Maya and Nathan both pointed in excitement, racing toward the queue while Katherine and Felix followed at a slower pace.
As the kids chose their horses and giggled at the ride operator helping them climb on, Katherine took the chance to pull out her phone and look up the headband. She’d had a nagging feeling ever since they bought it. Sure, it was sparkly and came in a box. But it couldn’t be that special, could it?
She tapped in a few keywords, then paused.
Then blinked.
Then gasped.
Her head snapped to Felix, who stood a few feet away, recording a video of Nathan and Maya riding side by side, Maya waving excitedly while Nathan tried to look serious on his plastic steed.
Felix lowered his phone, thumbed the screen to stop recording, and let out a contented sigh as the platform glided to a stop.
Katherine then stormed over, her voice low but furious. "Seven. Hundred. Dollars. For a headband?!"
Felix turned toward her, clearly amused by the shock on her face. "Hmm?" he asked innocently. "Oh, that."
She lightly slapped his shoulder. "Are you crazy? That’s a complete rip-off!"
He chuckled. "It’s a designer piece. Lucy Kang, they said. Swarovski crystals, limited edition. And you’re forgetting one key factor—we’re at an amusement park. Everything is overpriced."
"I don’t care! We’re returning it." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Felix dropped his phone to his side and pulled a dramatic pout, his eyes wide and lips pushed forward slightly. "You don’t like it?" he asked, voice softening. "I chose it carefully. I thought of you when I saw it."
Before Katherine could retort, two small voices cut in.
"Why does Uncle Felix look sad?" Nathan asked, pulling on Katherine’s hand.
"Yeah, he looks like he’s gonna cry," Maya added, frowning at Felix, then glancing up at her mother.
Felix gave them a soulful look and sighed heavily. "Your mom wants to return the headband I picked out for her. Isn’t it beautiful on her?"
Nathan’s eyes widened. "Don’t return it, Mom! He bought it for you!"
Maya clutched her own headband like it might vanish next. "Yeah, yeah! If you return it, then I won’t get to try it on later."
Katherine sighed, her mouth twitching into a reluctant smile as she glanced at all three of them—Felix with his puppy-dog eyes, and the twins practically begging her.
She mumbled under her breath, "Using the kids... not fair."
Felix’s sad expression instantly morphed into a triumphant grin. "Great! Settled. Let’s get lunch. I think our stomachs deserve a break after that carousel gallop."
With that, he extended his hands to the twins, who eagerly took them, and the trio began walking toward the nearest restaurant area. Katherine trailed behind, shaking her head but chuckling under her breath.
After lunch, they ventured toward more adventurous rides. The kids were especially excited for the water-themed ones, like Splash Hills. They came out of the ride laughing, dripping from the mild spray, but the one who got the worst of it was Felix.
Water had soaked his shirt entirely.
"You need to change," Katherine said as she eyed his drenched button-down that clung to his torso. "You look like you fell into a lake."
"It’s fine," he replied, running a hand through his damp hair, ever the gentleman. "I’ll dry off."
"Nope. Come on." She took the lead, heading to a nearby souvenir shop.
Inside, the air conditioning hit her skin in waves of cool relief. She quickly browsed a few racks before choosing a simple dark gray shirt with the park’s mascot—a goofy cartoon animal with a cheeky grin. She brought it to the counter and pulled out her card.
Felix and the twins followed behind her like little ducklings. Nathan played with a squishy toy, and Maya adjusted her unicorn headband.
The cashier looked up and smiled. "Looks like someone had a splash," she said, nodding toward Felix’s shirt.
"Yeah, and thankfully it wasn’t all of us," Katherine replied, placing the shirt on the counter.
Felix leaned in next to her and said with a smirk, "She just worries too much."
The cashier chuckled as she rang up the purchase. "That’s because she’s a good wife."
Katherine blinked. "Oh—uh—no, I’m—"
But the woman had already handed her the bag.
Katherine took it, her face turning crimson. She shoved the bag toward Felix without even looking at him. "Go change," she muttered.
He took the bag, eyes twinkling with amusement. "If people think we’re a couple, I don’t mind," he teased, voice low.
Katherine rolled her eyes, refusing to meet his gaze. "We’re walking around the park together. With kids. Of course people assume we’re a family."
"Exactly," he said, lifting a brow.
"Now go change," she said again, her voice a bit more firm this time.
Felix chuckled as he walked off toward the restroom, swinging the bag in one hand.
Neither of them noticed how they both had big, silly grins stretched across their faces.
