My Billionaire Ex Beg For A Second Chance-Chapter 56: Funday Sunday
Katherine hummed a gentle tune under her breath as she gently brushed Maya’s silky hair. The room smelled faintly of strawberries from the detangling spray she’d used earlier. Maya sat on a cushioned stool in front of the vanity, kicking her feet in excitement and wiggling in place. Her face sparkled with joy as she talked non-stop.
"I want to ride everything, Mommy!" she declared, her voice bright and filled with energy. "The rollercoaster, the spinning cups, the pirate ship—oh! And the ferris wheel too!"
Katherine chuckled as she parted Maya’s hair, weaving it into two even pigtails. "Everything, huh?" she teased softly, looping one section into a perfect little loop. "You’ll need a lot of energy for that, sweetheart."
Maya nodded eagerly, catching her own excited expression in the mirror. "I have lots of energy today! ’Cause Uncle Felix is coming with us, right?"
Katherine smiled faintly at her daughter’s glowing reflection. Her mind wandered for a moment, remembering the twins’ expressions—how wide their eyes grew when Felix showed them the e-tickets to the amusement park on his phone. Nathan had frozen for a second before breaking into a rare, wide grin. And Maya had squealed before launching herself at Felix, nearly knocking him backward in her enthusiasm. Felix had laughed and caught both of them in his arms like it was the most natural thing in the world.
The memory warmed her chest.
On the bed behind her, Nathan sat cross-legged, carefully putting on his socks. He looked up and asked, "Can we really ride everything, Mommy? Isn’t the amusement park really big? What if we don’t have time for everything?"
Katherine glanced over her shoulder, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Maya’s ear. "I don’t know for sure, honey," she answered gently, "but even if we don’t get to do everything, that’s okay, right? We can always go back again another day."
Nathan nodded slowly, as if weighing her words. "Okay," he said simply, but the faint spark of anticipation still danced in his eyes.
Then, the doorbell rang.
"Uncle Felix!" Maya gasped, bouncing off the stool with her pigtails bobbing. Nathan hopped off the bed and rushed to the door. "I’ll get it!"
"Thank you, Nath!" Katherine called, smiling as she stood and smoothed out Maya’s dress.
Nathan skidded back into the room, face glowing with excitement. "He’s here!" he announced breathlessly, stepping aside just in time for Felix to appear in the doorway.
"Sorry to disturb the glamour session," he said playfully, his lips tilted into a small grin.
Katherine looked up and smiled. "Hi, Felix. Come in."
Maya darted to him and threw her arms around his waist. "Uncle Felix!"
"Whoa there, munchkin," Felix laughed, crouching down and giving her a gentle squeeze before reaching up to give Nathan a high-five. "Ready for some fun today?"
Both twins nodded eagerly.
Felix took a seat beside Nathan on the edge of the bed. The boys chatted while the girls finished getting ready, but it wasn’t long before Katherine added the final touch to Maya’s hair—a pair of pink ribbon clips on each pigtail.
"All done, sunshine," she said with satisfaction.
Maya spun toward the mirror with a gasp. "I love it! Thank you, Mommy!"
The group soon made their way to Felix’s car. Katherine helped the kids buckle up in the back seat, while Felix settled into the driver’s seat. Nathan and Maya chatted endlessly behind them about which rides they wanted to try first and what food they should eat.
Katherine gazed out the window as the buildings passed by in a blur, her fingers lightly resting on her lap. Every now and then, her gaze drifted sideways toward Felix. He glanced back once, catching her eyes.
"What’s wrong?" he asked casually. "Do I have something on my face?"
Katherine blinked, then chuckled. "No, no. I was just... thinking."
"Dangerous habit," he teased.
She rolled her eyes, laughing softly. "I was just wondering about the weather. It looks like it might rain later."
Felix raised his brow. "Really? I didn’t check the forecast for today. But hey, let’s just hope the weather gods are in a good mood."
The mood was light as they arrived at the amusement park. The colorful arches of the entrance rose before them, vibrant flags flapping in the wind. As Felix parked the car, cheers erupted from the back seat.
"We’re here!" Maya squealed.
Nathan’s face lit up in quiet awe as he gazed through the window at the roller coasters and giant wheel in the distance.
Felix was about to unbuckle his seatbelt when he felt Katherine’s hand gently catch his arm. He turned to her, brows furrowing.
"Wait," she said softly, her tone hesitant. "Felix... are you sure about this? I mean, is it really okay? You being here with us?"
Felix tilted his head, unsure where the question was going.
"I mean," she clarified, "you’re my boss. People might see us. And they’ll talk. You’re with your secretary and her kids at an amusement park—it’s not exactly something people will ignore."
Felix’s expression softened. He reached out and rested his hand on top of hers, still clasped around his arm.
"Katherine," he said gently, "it’s true—you are my secretary. But who says we can’t do things outside of work?"
He leaned a little closer. "Let them talk. Let them think whatever they want. I honestly don’t care one bit."
Katherine searched his face, uncertain.
"I’m serious," he added. "You shouldn’t care either."
She stared at him for a moment longer before sighing, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "Okay."
A small smile formed on her lips—uncertain but touched.
From the back seat, Nathan’s voice interrupted. "Are we just going to stay here?"
Felix let go of her hand and grinned. "Coming, captain!"
They climbed out of the car. Katherine moved to Nathan and helped him unbuckle, brushing some hair from his face, while Felix opened the door for Maya and lifted her gently out of the seat, holding her tiny hand in his.
With the kids between them, they made their way toward the entrance gate, walking together under the bright blue sky dotted with thin, cotton clouds.
As they stepped into the park with its vibrant music, flashing lights, and laughter-filled atmosphere, Felix leaned slightly toward Katherine and said in a low voice, just for her.
"You also forgot one thing."
Katherine turned to him, puzzled. "What’s that?"
Felix gave her a soft, meaningful smile. "You’re not just my secretary, Katherine. You’re more than that. You’re someone very dear and precious to me."
