My Antique Mirror Is A Portal To Another World-Chapter 112: Making New Uniforms
Chapter 112: Making New Uniforms
The tents currently used by the Feng Army were old—most were torn or had holes. If the Feng Army hadn’t been too poor to replace them, Feng Xiyan would have thrown them out long ago.
Looking at the bronze mirror, Feng Xiyan said gratefully, "Xiyan thanks Fairy Bai on behalf of all the soldiers."
Seeing his improved mood, Bai Hanyun smiled and replied, "There is no need to say thank you between us."
As soon as he heard those words, Feng Xiyan lightly coughed as the tips of his ears turned red.
Unaware that her words sounded ambiguous, Bai Hanyun continued, "If the tents are suitable for you to use, let me know and I will buy more."
"Yes, Fairy Bai."
Now that the goods had been delivered, Bai Hanyun said, "I need to go now. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything. See you tomorrow, Feng Xiyan."
"See you tomorrow, Fairy Bai," Feng Xiyan replied with a smile.
After ending the communication, Bai Hanyun placed the antique mirror back into her backpack. Locking the warehouse door, she said, "Brother Hua, let’s go back now."
Hua Yuyu glanced at the warehouse for a moment before opening the car door for her. Once Bai Hanyun was seated in the back, he closed the door and got into the driver’s seat.
After handing her a pack of steamed buns and a bottle of soymilk, Hua Yuyu fastened his seatbelt and stepped on the accelerator.
As they made their way home, Feng Xiyan handed the bronze mirror to Feng Yi and looked at a nearby guard. "Call General Tan."
The soldier clasped his fists and replied, "Yes, Great General."
Before long, the soldier returned with Tan Pengtai.
Clasping his fists, Tan Pengtai said, "This subordinate greets the Great General. What are your instructions, Great General?"
Feng Xiyan gestured toward the supplies and said, "General Tan, Fairy Bai has just bestowed us with fabric, needles, and threads. Please arrange for someone to make new uniforms for the soldiers."
He paused for a second and then added, "If there’s fabric left over, distribute it to the common people so they can make their own clothes."
Among the generals, Tan Pengtai was the only one who was married.
Since most of the generals and soldiers were rough men with no experience in making clothes, he suggested, "Great General, may I ask my wife to help with this matter?"
It made sense for women to handle such tasks, so Feng Xiyan agreed. "Very well. Arrange it as you see fit."
Receiving his approval, Tan Pengtai said, "Yes, Great General."
After that, Feng Xiyan pointed to the boxes of military tents and added, "These boxes contain military tents. Fairy Bai wants us to try them out and see if they meet our needs. If they are useful, she will send more."
Tan Pengtai’s eyes lit up the moment he heard this.
Although he had a small courtyard house in the city, he and most of the soldiers of the Feng Army spent their time in the barracks. It was painful waking up each day with sand covering their faces because of the old, torn tents.
Looking at the military tent boxes, Tan Pengtai patted his chest and said, "Rest assured, Great General. This subordinate will arrange for the brothers to set them up immediately."
Feng Xiyan nodded and added, "Fairy Bai also sent more vegetables and fruits today. I recall that we dug several underground cellars recently. Are they ready for use?"
"Yes. This subordinate has already moved the remaining vegetables and fruits into the underground cellars. As for the leftover meat, we have made it into jerky and smoked meat. After processing, the meat should be able to be stored for at least a year," Tan Pengtai replied.
"Good. Then this general will leave the rest to you."
Clasping his fists, Tan Pengtai responded, "This subordinate accepts the order."
Once the supplies were entrusted to Tan Pengtai, Feng Xiyan returned to the training ground to oversee the soldiers’ training.
After Feng Xiyan left, Tan Pengtai called over his subordinates. "Load the fabric, threads, and needles onto the carts and take them to my residence."
"Yes, General Tan." The soldiers accepted the order and began working without delay.
As they loaded the goods, another group of soldiers was instructed to move the vegetables and fruits to the newly dug underground cellars.
Pointing to the boxes of military tents, Tan Pengtai said, "Gather the brothers. We will set up the new tents in the vacant lots in the western area."
"Yes, General Tan."
With that, the soldiers of the Great Bear Division split into three teams and went to complete their tasks.
Soon, 150 soldiers left the barracks with over 100 wooden carts filled with fabric, needles, and threads. As they made their way to Tan Pengtai’s residence, curious onlookers eyed the carts covered in burlap.
Out of curiosity, an elderly man stopped one of the soldiers and asked, "Sir, are those supplies being sent to the Great General’s mansion? Will we be receiving fruits today?"
The soldier shook his head and replied, "No. The porridge stalls will distribute the same menu as usual."
Hearing this, the old man pressed, "Then what are those?"
Narrowing his eyes, the soldier slightly drew his sword and warned, "Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t."
Startled by the soldier’s intimidating aura, the old man backed away without another word. The soldier then rejoined his comrades.
When they arrived at Tan Pengtai’s residence, the team leader approached the guards at the gate and said, "Brothers, we are here on General Tan’s orders. Please inform Madam Tan."
Since they all served in the Great Bear Division, the guards recognized them and nodded.
One guard replied, "Please wait a moment. I will inform Madam Tan."
Before long, a maidservant rushed to the back courtyard. Entering the main room, she bowed and reported, "Madam, a group of soldiers says Master has sent them to speak with you."
Setting down her embroidery, Madam Tan stood from her chair and said, "Let’s go and take a look."
