My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 60: But Dad, You Clearly Said He Was a Wild Man
Gavin Sterling finally hurried out of the house.
He was holding a rattan cane, looking menacing.
But when he looked closely, the man hugging Stella was...
Owen Rhodes!
Not asking for an address, arriving in ten minutes, Mr. Rhodes, Stella’s fearless confidence...
The dots connected in his mind, and Gavin Sterling’s temples suddenly began to throb.
’No, no, no, how could it be? How could it be Owen Rhodes!’
Just then, Madeline Jennings also came out of the villa, supporting Chase Sterling. Kiana Sterling and Ethan Rhodes followed behind them.
Madeline Jennings was solely focused on getting her son to the hospital and didn’t notice anyone else.
But Ethan Rhodes immediately spotted Owen Rhodes holding Stella.
His eyes widened. ’Why is Owen Rhodes here?’
’And why is Stella hugging him?’
The truth was about to reveal itself, but the thought of it made his heart sink.
He stared intently at Owen Rhodes, as if trying to burn holes into him with his gaze.
It was Kiana Sterling who, in a soft and delicate voice, called out, "Uncle, what are you doing here?"
The current situation had spiraled far beyond Gavin Sterling’s expectations. He forced himself to calm down and try to regain control.
"Joel Joyce..."
Only then did Gavin Sterling notice Joel Joyce’s bruised face. Looking at that, and then at Owen Rhodes’s reddened hand that was still wrapped around Stella, he understood.
And after understanding came shock.
He never imagined Owen Rhodes would actually get violent for Stella.
If they weren’t in a very intimate relationship, the situation just now shouldn’t have been enough to make him attack Joel Joyce without a word.
Anyone in a more superficial relationship would have at least tried to talk things out first.
Gavin Sterling finally felt like he had been played by Stella.
His expression softened slightly. "You first take Chase to the hospital and get your own wounds treated. President Rhodes, if you please, shall we go inside and talk?"
Owen Rhodes didn’t speak. He just lowered his head slightly and whispered in Stella’s ear, "Want to go home?"
Stella, her head buried in Owen Rhodes’s chest, shook her head. "Let’s go in and settle the score first."
"Alright."
Owen Rhodes wrapped an arm around Stella’s shoulder and led her into the villa without a word, as if no one else existed.
Madeline Jennings had also snapped back to reality by now, staring in shock and surprise at the intimate behavior between Owen Rhodes and Stella.
After Joel Joyce and Chase Sterling left, the rest of the family followed them back into the villa, keeping some distance.
When Gavin Sterling and the others entered the living room, Stella had disappeared somewhere. Only Owen Rhodes was there, sitting on a lone armchair with a grim expression, as if he were the master of the house.
Taking a seat, Gavin Sterling studied Owen Rhodes’s expression and began, "President Rhodes, were you just passing by?"
Although he already had a suspicion, it was too shocking to contemplate, so Gavin Sterling decided to leave himself some room for denial.
Owen Rhodes looked up, his face cold, and said in a deep voice, "Have you forgotten, President Sterling? You were the one who asked me to come."
With that one sentence, all of Gavin Sterling’s wishful thinking was shattered.
No wonder Stella had said the man was someone Ethan Rhodes couldn’t possibly compare to.
And wasn’t it the truth?
This was Owen Rhodes! 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
How many brilliant young men in Jandor could stand shoulder to shoulder with him?
Gavin Sterling felt the throbbing in his temples intensify, making his head ache.
But he still couldn’t give up hope and confirmed one more time, "President Rhodes, are you saying that the person who married my Stella... is you?"
Owen Rhodes remained silent, quietly pulling the marriage certificate from the inner pocket of his suit jacket and brandishing it for all to see.
But Owen Rhodes had no intention of letting their dirty hands touch his sacred marriage certificate, so he opened it to the photo page and held it up for them to see.
Madeline Jennings subconsciously reached for it, but Owen Rhodes swiftly raised his hand to move it away.
"Don’t touch."
Madeline Jennings: "..."
Although they couldn’t make out the words on the certificate, the photo on the red background clearly and undeniably showed the faces of Owen Rhodes and Stella.
Owen Rhodes held the marriage certificate and turned it slowly, making sure everyone saw it, including Ethan Rhodes, who was sitting furthest away.
"See clearly?"
Without waiting for an answer, he treasuredly put the little red book away, tucking it back into his inner pocket for safekeeping.
"President Sterling, you said you disapprove of my marriage to Stella and want us to divorce, is that right?"
Gavin Sterling: "..."
’How could I dare say no now?’
’If I had known my younger daughter had the ability to bag Owen Rhodes, why would I have bothered with all those other convoluted schemes?’
Gavin Sterling put on an embarrassed smile. "Heh heh, President Rhodes, it’s all a misunderstanding. Oh, I should be calling you my son-in-law now!"
Owen Rhodes sneered internally. ’This one sure knows how to climb the ladder when you offer it to him.’
Gavin Sterling continued to explain, "Sigh, it’s all a misunderstanding. And Stella, really, keeping secrets from her own family. Of course it would lead to a misunderstanding."
Owen Rhodes’s eyes turned cold. "Is that so? If I recall correctly, at Ethan Rhodes’s engagement party yesterday, you were trying to set my wife up with the son of President Hollis from Hollis Group. And today, you called to order Stella and me to divorce. You really play your cards well, President Sterling."
That was indeed Gavin Sterling’s intention, but to have it laid bare so bluntly, he couldn’t hide his embarrassment.
His face fell. He understood in his heart that this matter wouldn’t be resolved so easily today.
If Owen Rhodes was truly displeased, it likely wouldn’t end with just him throwing a tantrum at their house.
Gavin Sterling’s mind raced. He thought it over and concluded that to smooth things over, the one who tied the bell must be the one to untie it. Stella had to be the one to handle this.
He looked around. "Where’s Stella? Where did she run off to?"
Just then, Stella returned.
She walked over from the direction of the restroom and came to a stop in front of everyone.
Everyone was sitting; only Stella was standing before them.
Owen Rhodes stood up, walked over to take her hand, and had her sit in the seat he had just vacated. He then stood beside the armchair, his hands resting lightly on her shoulders in a very protective gesture.
Stella then looked up at him with a pitiful expression. "Owen, let’s get a divorce. My parents don’t approve. They all say a marriage without the family’s blessing can’t be a happy one."
Gavin Sterling: "..."
Madeline Jennings: "..."
Kiana Sterling: "..."
’Wow, she changes her tune fast.’
’And here I thought she was just defying everyone all by herself a moment ago.’
Gavin Sterling hurriedly said, "Stella, don’t talk nonsense! You silly girl, why didn’t you say so earlier? If you had said it was President Rhodes from the start, we never would have had this kind of misunderstanding!"
Stella just blinked her big, clean, and clear eyes at him. "But Dad, you were just calling him a bum a minute ago."
