Chapter 681: 044: Kiss

Mu Lezhu struggled to lean back and grab her own bag, but the back seat was really too far away. Even if her arm were half a foot longer, it would still be difficult to reach. She could only look hopelessly at Lu Jingang: "Do you think I can reach it? You’ve already come over; couldn’t you just open the back door and help me get it?"

"I didn’t ask you to get the bag, just to take the clothes." Lu Jingang raised his eyebrows, retorting confidently. Then, with a disdainful glance, he seemed quite arrogant as he turned to the back seat, picked up her bag, and tossed it into her lap.

Mu Lezhu was speechless, unable to argue against his excuse, but she rolled her eyes to the heavens. This guy usually didn’t talk much, but at crucial moments, he had plenty of reasons and excuses, as if his way was the only way.

"What? Is there a problem?" Seeing her glare, Lu Jingang furrowed his brow and retorted.

"No, my eyes are twitching, is that not okay?" Mu Lezhu gave a professional fake smile, gritting her teeth in response.

"Fine." Lu Jingang raised his eyebrows again, answering very earnestly.

That single slightly cold word almost drove Mu Lezhu mad. Her temper flared up, and she simply turned her face away, refusing to acknowledge him. She didn’t hurry to get out of the car, just sat there, puffed up with anger.

Seeing this, Lu Jingang realized she was upset. His thin lips moved slightly but made no sound as he silently bent down, picked her up horizontally, and, using his foot, shut the car door. He turned and walked toward the main building of the villa.

Mu Lezhu didn’t resist or struggle, as she felt quite cold. Moreover, Lu Jingang wasn’t wearing a coat either—his coat was on her. He was only wearing a thin knitted shirt, and his hair was still wet. If they kept waiting, he’d easily catch a cold. She felt somewhat guilty and forgave him in her heart, deciding not to quibble with him, though her face still bore an angry look, her eyes exuding a sense of coldness.

They passed through two long corridors and reached a short corridor in the backyard of the main building. Just then, the two maids of the villa were preparing to check on the garage. Given how heavily it was raining outside, the iron gates opened automatically, and they knew Mu Lezhu had returned.

When they saw Lu Jingang carrying Mu Lezhu toward them, both were taken aback. It wasn’t until Lu Jingang reached the door that they came to their senses and nodded in greeting, "Mr. Lu, Miss."

"Miss, what happened to your leg?" One of the maids noticed the white bandage on Mu Lezhu’s leg and immediately asked with concern.

"It’s nothing, just a little accident. Could you bring a new towel to wipe him dry? And make some ginger tea to ward off the cold." Mu Lezhu handed her bag and wet coat to them, gave her instructions, and then looked up at Lu Jingang.

Understanding, Lu Jingang’s eyes narrowed slightly. He bypassed the maids and walked inside, heading upstairs. "Which floor?"

Although he had visited the Mu Family many times, he had never been to Mu Lezhu’s room. He’d only been upstairs twice, and that was to the old man’s study.

"Third floor."

When they reached the third floor, Mu Lezhu silently watched his handsome profile and softly spoke, "The blue door on the right." After a few seconds, she couldn’t help but ask, "Well... you walked so long, are you tired?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Jingang glanced at her but said nothing, heading straight to the room she mentioned.

Her room was large, connected to a dressing room, yet it was very tidy and simple. The overall style was a fresh blue and white, creating a comfortable ambiance.

Mu Lezhu turned on the room’s floor lamp but didn’t turn on the main lights, pointing to the dark blue sofa by the bed’s foot. "Just put me on there."

Lu Jingang walked directly over, but as he approached the white wool rug in front of the sofa, he didn’t notice the wire connected to the floor lamp beside it and tripped, losing his balance and falling forward with her onto the sofa.

Startled, Lu Jingang instinctively tried to throw Mu Lezhu onto the sofa to keep her safe. But unexpectedly, when he fell, he ended up pressing against her, and their lips accidentally brushed together.

A burst of cold, a touch of softness, instantly overwhelmed both their minds, leaving them stunned. Wide-eyed, they stared at one another, completely forgetting how to react.

The atmosphere in the room was extremely quiet, and Mu Lezhu’s mind buzzed, taking a considerable moment to return to her senses. Her eyes darted around twice before she hurriedly raised a hand against his chest and shouted in flustered embarrassment, "Y-you... get up quickly, y-you’re heavy!"

Lu Jingang, known for his high intelligence and resourcefulness, found himself genuinely bewildered in such an unexpected situation. He had never encountered anything like it; when their lips touched, a strange and slightly feverish current passed through him.

"Cough, cough." Only after hearing her did Lu Jingang snap back to reality. He quickly propped himself up on the sofa with both hands, moving to the edge, his handsome face filled with an unnatural awkwardness that he tried to disguise with a few dry coughs.

Mu Lezhu, equally embarrassed, unconsciously touched her own lips. Fortunately, the lighting wasn’t too bright, otherwise, her blushing face would definitely have been seen by him.

Lu Jingang also raised his hand, initially wanting to touch his lips but felt it inappropriate, so he ended up rubbing his nose instead. In nearly thirty years, he had never experienced such an awkward and embarrassing situation.

Just as they were both silently contemplating breaking the awkward silence, a knock came at the door, followed by the maid’s voice, "Miss, I’ve brought the clean towel you asked for."

As soon as the maid finished speaking, Lu Jingang immediately stood up, went to the door, and took the towel. "I’ll take it, thank you."

Lu Jingang’s sudden thanks took the maid by surprise, and she quickly waved her hand. "No need, it’s my duty. The ginger tea will take a while longer."

"Mm, that’s fine."

The maid had seen Lu Jingang several times before, but this was the first time she found him approachable. He usually gave off a very cold aura, which had concerned her for their young lady.

"Uh... Miss, have you and Mr. Lu had dinner yet?" The maid smiled at Lu Jingang and then looked to Mu Lezhu.

"I haven’t..." Mu Lezhu shook her head, hesitated for two seconds, and then looked at Lu Jingang, who was drying his hair. "Have you... have you eaten?"
