Chapter 468: 032: Misunderstanding_2

"Alright, I’ll go play in the game room for a bit, call me when it’s time to eat." In front of Su Wantang, Yun Yisheng showed no reservation. He had spent most of his childhood here, and Su Wantang truly doted on him. Every time he came back, he felt very at ease. Before leaving, he even raised his eyebrows at Yun Xi: "Sis, want to have a PK match? Loser pays a thousand bucks."

"Tch, I’m not afraid of you." Yun Xi sneered and scoffed, then nudged Ye Lingran beside her: "Ling Ran, want to join us?"

"You guys go ahead! I’m really not good at games." Reflecting on her own gaming skills, Ye Lingran decided it was best not to embarrass herself and waved her hand to refuse.

"Then I’ll go have a PK match with him first, and I’ll come back to chat with you later."

"Alright."

"It’s almost time for dinner; I’ll go check the kitchen. Ling Ran, could you go upstairs and call Qi’er and his father? I haven’t been able to get them all afternoon." After chatting with her for a few more minutes, Su Wantang glanced at the time, then patted her on the shoulder: "The study is the first room on the left on the third floor; just knock and go in." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Hmm... okay." Watching Su Wantang rise to the kitchen, Ye Lingran suddenly felt her task was very daunting. She even took a sip of red tea before heading upstairs.

Step by heavy step, she ascended, still feeling a bit heavy-hearted. After all, it was only her second visit to his parents’ home. Although Su Wantang always said not to be formal and to treat the place like her own home, she still found it hard to completely relax.

While going upstairs, Ye Lingran also took the opportunity to look around at the overall layout of their villa. Once on the third floor, she looked around and, following Su Wantang’s instructions, arrived at the first room on the left. The door wasn’t fully closed, leaving a small crack. Just as she raised her hand to knock, a conversation inside came through clearly, causing her to freeze in place.

"The year is more than halfway over. When do you plan on having the engagement party?" It was unmistakably Yun Qi’s father, Yun Junsen, speaking.

Upon hearing about the engagement party, Ye Lingran’s heart suddenly tightened, and her expression turned tense. This was precisely the issue that troubled her.

Yun Qi seemed to be silent for quite a while. Standing outside, Ye Lingran grew more anxious, swallowing nervously, awaiting his response.

"I don’t plan to have an engagement party." As soon as that familiar, warm male voice sounded from inside, Ye Lingran’s taut nerves snapped. Listening to his words, her entire body shook, and her chest felt as though something was stuck, making her uncomfortable and somewhat bitter.

As expected, all this time, it had been nothing more than wishful thinking on her part. From the beginning, it was all fake, only she thought they had transitioned from a pretend to a real relationship. His words were only to stabilize her grandmother’s illness, and only she was deeply caught up in it, unable to extricate herself. This pretend relationship had deceived her right into believing it was real.

The nervousness in her heart vanished entirely, replaced by a surge of wanting to cry, but she knew she couldn’t cry, not at this moment, or else the only one embarrassed would be herself.

"Why the sudden change of plans not to have it?"

"I’ll handle this matter properly and have my own plans. Dad, don’t worry."

"Ling Ran is a good girl, don’t let her down."

"Yes, I know."

The conversation between the father and son repeatedly echoed in her ears, but Ye Lingran’s mind was blank. The pain in her chest made her feel dazed. Is this what heartache feels like?

After a while, the sound of the maid speaking came from the second floor, snapping Ye Lingran back to reality. She tried to adjust herself, trying her best to appear normal, moved her lips to find her voice, but didn’t know what to say, so she awkwardly knocked on the door.

Inside, Yun Qi heard the knock and walked over to open the door. Seeing Ye Lingran, he paused for a moment, then a smile of surprise spread across his eyes: "When did you get here? Why didn’t you tell me?"

"Auntie called me in the morning, I... thought you knew." Avoiding eye contact with him, Ye Lingran was afraid her emotions would collapse at this moment, looking away, she stammered: "Auntie... said, it’s time for dinner, asked... me to come up... to call you and Uncle... for dinner."
