My Alleged Husband-Chapter 931 - 832: Confession_9
Zhang Zhentian heard what Old Master Zhang said and instantly knew that his father had made up his mind. He understood better than anyone what kind of person his father was. Since Old Master Zhang had said it, he would certainly follow through; otherwise, he wouldn’t have said it. If he made claims he couldn’t fulfill, wouldn’t that be a joke?
When Zhang Zhentian saw his father declare this and then turn around without a backward glance to head upstairs, a bitter feeling welled up inside him. He hadn’t expected that whether Xia Jing had committed murder would matter so much to his father. He had thought that as long as Xia Jing sincerely admitted her mistake, his father would forgive her. But it never occurred to him that the outcome of Xia Jing’s admission and repentance would be that she had to go and seek forgiveness from Li Haixiao and Li Jiayuan. Zhang Zhentian watched his father’s retreating figure heading upstairs, unsure of what to do.
Zhang Zhentian was a little worried. He not only understood his father well but also knew the kind of person his beloved woman was. He understood Xia Jing’s nature. He knew that getting Xia Jing to lower her head and admit her fault was rare enough, let alone ask her to apologize to the people she had intended to harm. Zhang Zhentian felt uneasy, fearing that if Xia Jing refused to lower herself, then given his father’s temperament, he really could carry out his threat—disown Zhang Zhentian and banish him from the family forever.
After thinking it through, Zhang Zhentian decided to find Xia Jing and discuss the situation. He wanted to know where she stood on this matter.
In truth, Xia Jing was conflicted as well. She was a proud person. Before she met Zhang Zhentian, no matter what mistakes she made, she would never lower her head and admit them. When she was abroad, Xia Jing had even orchestrated an attack on someone for the sake of a close friend. Back then, she had acted out of loyalty and ferocity. In the past, Xia Jing would never bow her head to anyone for any reason. But since meeting Zhang Zhentian, Xia Jing had gradually begun to change. This time, even her decision to have someone harm Li Jiayuan had stemmed from losing control after something happened between Zhang Zhentian and Li Jiayuan.
Early the next morning, Zhang Zhentian left the house without even eating breakfast. As he walked, he dialed Xia Jing’s number to ask her out. He thought it would be easy to convince her to meet him, but to his surprise, Xia Jing was unwilling to come out.
"Hey, where are you?" Zhang Zhentian asked Xia Jing, panting out of breath.
"What do you want?" Xia Jing responded with a question.
Zhang Zhentian could sense something strange in Xia Jing’s tone and continued to press her.
"Where are you exactly? I need to talk to you about something."
"Does it matter where I am? If you’re asking because of the Li Jiayuan incident, then let’s not meet face-to-face. We can talk over the phone instead!" Xia Jing replied flatly to Zhang Zhentian.
Zhang Zhentian was caught off guard by the decisiveness in Xia Jing’s response.
Holding the phone, Xia Jing didn’t hear a reply from Zhang Zhentian. Thinking he wasn’t listening, she spoke again and was about to hang up.
"Hey, are you listening? If not, I’m hanging up." Xia Jing said.
Just as Xia Jing finished speaking, she prepared to end the call. But perhaps Zhang Zhentian, deep down, feared she would hang up, so before she could, he quickly responded.
"I’m listening, I’m listening. Just tell me where you are. Can we talk face-to-face, please?" Zhang Zhentian pleaded with Xia Jing.
Upon hearing Zhang Zhentian lowering himself this much to beg her, Xia Jing couldn’t bear to reject him any further. In the end, she told him her location.
"Fine, come meet me by the lakeside. There aren’t many people there. I’ll be waiting for you by the lake."
"Okay, okay, wherever you say, I’ll be there. I’ll come right away, just wait for me there. Don’t leave, okay? You must wait for me." Zhang Zhentian said excitedly to Xia Jing, afraid that she might change her mind and leave. He feared that when he arrived at the lakeside, the only thing he would see would be clear, tranquil waters—and not his beloved woman.
Without waiting for Xia Jing’s reply, he ended the call. Zhang Zhentian immediately headed to the parking lot to get his car. He needed to rush to the lakeside as quickly as possible. If he arrived too late, Xia Jing might not wait for him.
His driving skills were quite impressive. Despite the heavy traffic on the roads, with vehicles coming and going, he managed to speed along while deftly avoiding the other cars. At his current pace, he should have reached the lakeside quickly, but red traffic lights and congestion got in his way. Zhang Zhentian wanted to run the red lights and dash forward, but unfortunately, where there were traffic lights, there were police officers. He had no choice but to wait in an orderly queue as the light colors alternated. From time to time, he glanced at his watch, watching as time slipped away second by second. Anxiety started to creep in.
