My Alleged Husband-Chapter 923 - 832: Telling
When your grandfather heard Xia Jing’s words, he fell into deep thought. Could it be that I was wrong before? Xia Jing was with Zhentian because she truly cared for him, not because of my wealth. But she’s a mercenary. The Zhang Family has upheld a spotless reputation for generations—how can we accept a mercenary as our daughter-in-law? Yet, she put aside all past grievances and used up every bit of her savings to save my company. Should I still continue suspecting her like I did before? Old Master Zhang began to question his previous actions. He deliberated deeply and decided that he would observe Xia Jing for a while longer to determine whether she sincerely intended to help save the company or had ulterior motives.
At the press conference, Zhang Zhentian saw Xia Jing using all her years of savings selflessly to rescue the Zhang Corporation. He felt elated. "Given this, father probably won’t oppose my relationship with Xia Jing anymore, right?" Zhang Zhentian thought to himself, unable to keep a slight smile from tugging at the corners of his mouth.
The next day, Old Master Zhang arrived at the company early to attend a meeting. Thanks to Xia Jing’s timely financial input, the company got back on track. After the meeting ended, Old Master Zhang asked his secretary to arrange a meeting with Xia Jing so he could have a conversation with her.
"Chairman, are you looking for me?" The secretary walked in and asked Old Master Zhang.
"Go and schedule a meeting with Xia Jing for me. Tell her I’d like to talk to her. Go quickly." Old Master Zhang gestured with a wave of his hand.
"Understood."
Once the secretary left, Old Master Zhang continued pondering the whole matter regarding Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian alone.
"Xia Jing, oh Xia Jing, what exactly is on your mind? You don’t hold a grudge against how I treated you, and instead, you saved me in my moment of crisis. What should I do about this?" Old Master Zhang mumbled to himself. He was so immersed in his internal dialogue that he didn’t even notice Zhang Zhentian entering the office. Seeing his father so deeply lost in thought, Zhang Zhentian couldn’t help but feel curious about what was occupying his father’s mind.
"Dad, Dad, Dad!" Zhang Zhentian called out to Old Master Zhang several times, but Old Master Zhang remained motionless like a puppet, making Zhang Zhentian even more curious.
"Dad, what are you thinking about?" Zhang Zhentian asked as he lightly patted Old Master Zhang’s shoulder. Old Master Zhang jolted awake and quickly turned his head to look at Zhang Zhentian, startling him. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Dad, why are you staring at me like that? Are you suddenly realizing how handsome your son is? [Grinning/Grinning]" Zhang Zhentian teased his father with exaggerated expressions.
"Hmph, you brat, asking your old man if you’re handsome! You were born from me—how could you not be handsome?" Old Master Zhang retorted with a pat on Zhang Zhentian’s shoulder.
"Alright, Dad, back to business. What exactly were you thinking about earlier? You were so absorbed that you didn’t respond even after I called out to you several times." Zhang Zhentian said. "Honestly, it’s lucky I’m not a robber, otherwise you’d have been in big trouble today."
"You rascal, are you cursing your old man? The company just went through a brutal storm, and you can’t say something nicer? Really!" Old Master Zhang shot Zhang Zhentian a furious look.
"Dad, you know I’m not jinxing anything—it’s just talk! There’s no way it would actually happen. So, don’t worry so much. Since Xia Jing has solved the company’s financial problems, you should focus on running the company and stop interfering with Xia Jing and me, alright?" Zhang Zhentian ventured cautiously, testing to see if his father might approve of his relationship with Xia Jing now that she had helped save the company.
Zhang Zhentian noticed that his father remained silent for a long time, his expression shifting between uncertainty and contemplation. In the end, Old Master Zhang decided to voice his concerns directly with Zhentian.
"Zhentian, Dad wants to ask you something, and you must answer me honestly." Old Master Zhang gestured for Zhang Zhentian to sit beside him.
"Alright, Dad, go ahead."
"Okay, let me ask you this: Has Xia Jing ever killed someone? Where did she get so much money? Don’t tell me it’s all from years of savings. She spent such a huge sum—was it truly just to help us through this tough time? Does she really not have any hidden motives?" Old Master Zhang voiced the doubts lingering in his heart.
Zhang Zhentian froze for a moment. Why is Dad asking about Xia Jing? And why would he ask whether she’s killed someone? Does Dad genuinely believe Xia Jing isn’t sincerely trying to help Zhang Corporation through this crisis?
