My Alleged Husband-Chapter 104 - 96: Three - Agreement_1
"What’s there to be embarrassed about? You’re both adults, still shy?" Old Master Zhang was truly a sharp-tongued one, giving no breathing room when he spoke. He believed that only by being firm could he stand his ground in the business world and under enemy attack because only then could he protect himself and the people he cared about from any harm!
"Dad, you must be going crazy wanting a grandson, right? How can you just blurt out things like that? Don’t you know how to be a bit more subtle?" Zhang Zhentian said to Old Master Zhang.
"Xia Jing, tell me if what Dad is saying is right. Since both of you chose each other without reservation, try not to bicker all the time. Do you think it’s fun to fight all the time?" Old Master Zhang ignored Zhang Zhentian and turned to Xia Jing, asking, "Feelings aren’t fought for!"
"It’s fun!" Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing said in unison in response to Old Master Zhang. Old Master Zhang was simply at a loss for words with these two; he didn’t know how best to speak to such a son and daughter-in-law. It felt like speaking to a brick wall. Fun? Are they deliberately trying to provoke me?
Old Master Zhang gasped for air, grateful for his strong mental fortitude, which kept him from fainting with frustration. Such a couple was indeed a rare sight once in a century, but why, of all things, did it have to befall him? How was he supposed to continue living under the same roof with them?
"Fine, if you say it’s fun, then it’s fun. But let me make myself clear, you are not allowed to leave the house these next few days. You’re to stay home and cultivate your relationship. I want to hold my grandson soon. Xia Jing, did Zhentian tell you what I said to him last night?" Old Master Zhang got straight to the point, not bothering to beat around the bush with Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing.
Although Xia Jing had eavesdropped on Old Master Zhang and Zhang Zhentian’s talk the night before and knew most of it, it was still jumbled and incomplete as she hadn’t caught the beginning. She shook her head at Old Master Zhang. Zhang Zhentian felt a headache coming on at Xia Jing’s "honest" act, thinking: Why can’t this fool tell a lie? Truly a brainless creature.
Seeing Zhang Zhentian repeatedly wink at her, Xia Jing naively asked, "Zhentian, what’s wrong with you? Are your eyes uncomfortable? Why do you keep winking at me?"
At Xia Jing’s question, Zhang Zhentian was dumbfounded, and Old Master Zhang turned his head to look at Zhang Zhentian.
"Dad, why are you looking at me? Can’t I blink if I have sand in my eyes?" After saying that, Zhang Zhentian even winked at his own dad, prompting Elder Zhang to feel an urge to rush over and smack him.
"You win, I can’t argue with you. But I’ve made myself very clear. Even if you really don’t want to stay here, you’re not leaving until you give me a grandson, understand?" Old Master Zhang no longer wanted to speak with Zhang Zhentian. He felt powerless and had no other wishes; all he hoped for was to see his grandchild soon and that his years of effort wouldn’t go down the drain.
"Got it!" Zhang Zhentian said impatiently.
Watching Elder Zhang walk away, Xia Jing pulled Zhang Zhentian back into their bedroom to lay down some ground rules.
"Zhang Zhentian, let’s set some rules. Whoever breaks them during the marriage has to sleep on the floor for a month, how about that?" Xia Jing suggested.
This was exactly what Zhang Zhentian had in mind; he just didn’t know how to bring it up with Xia Jing, and here she was proposing it herself. Why not? 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"Okay, you go first!"
"First, no staying out late or cheating within marriage, not even emotionally; second, we can’t get into arguments all the time or unjustly suspect one’s own wife; third, no matter what happens in the future, we must discuss it together. What do you think?" Xia Jing spoke to Zhang Zhentian, and he nodded, feeling he could agree to her conditions.
"Since you agree, then there should be no problem with mine. Now it’s your turn!"
"Just remember this was your idea, so I hope you won’t regret it!"
Xia Jing let out a cold laugh and said to Zhang Zhentian, "Funny, do you think Xia Jing would ever regret her actions? Just speak plainly!"
"Well, since that’s the case, here goes. First, there must be no secrets between husband and wife; if one is caught concealing something, they’ll sleep on the floor for a year; second, we must not yell when we are building our relationship so as not to disturb the family’s rest; third, if anything comes up, or if anyone is looking for one of us, we must notify the other immediately, no meeting in secret, especially with the opposite sex! How about my conditions?"
At first, Xia Jing didn’t find Zhang Zhentian’s words unreasonable, but upon hearing his second condition, she retorted, "Isn’t that second one a bit excessive?"
"I wonder who just said they’d never regret their decisions. How quickly we forget—I should have said nothing..." Zhang Zhentian was already employing reverse psychology on her.
Hearing such disdain from Zhang Zhentian, Xia Jing just couldn’t have it. Angrily, she said, "Who says I regret it? I agree, who’s afraid of who!"
"Since you’ve agreed, then I’ll be waiting for the good news!" Zhang Zhentian turned and left after saying this. Xia Jing didn’t understand what he meant by waiting for her good news, and she didn’t delve into any hidden meanings behind his words, believing it was better just to live in the moment.
The agreement they signed was inherently unequal, with each of Zhang Zhentian’s conditions targeting Xia Jing. Yet clueless Xia Jing didn’t know any better, thinking Zhang Zhentian had mentioned them casually. However, she would be later shocked by the outcome, never realizing how much she eventually had to give for Zhang Zhentian to let go of his grudges.
Night fell quickly, and after freshening up, Xia Jing prepared to go directly to bed. But Zhang Zhentian suddenly reminded her, "Darling, you haven’t forgotten the second condition from our agreement we made during the day, have you?"
Xia Jing thought for a moment and silently cursed, realizing her oversight too late as Zhang Zhentian began his onslaught. The night was tumultuous, and Xia Jing fell asleep from sheer exhaustion, leaving Zhang Zhentian to finally rest. She was completely drained and collapsed into a deep sleep.
"Little one, let’s see if you dare keep secrets from me. The day you come to me voluntarily to clarify that issue is the day I’ll allow you a peaceful night’s rest. Otherwise, you’ll be at my mercy every day!"
"Stop it..." Xia Jing murmured in her dream, plunging into turmoil once and again. At last, Zhang Zhentian too succumbed to fatigue, holding Xia Jing as he drifted off, sleeping till he woke naturally. Upon awakening, it was already the following afternoon, and though he was awake, Xia Jing was still not.
