Chapter 103: Chapter 95: Leniency for Confessing_1

Xia Jingyi slept for over ten hours, and by the time she woke up, it was almost dawn. She reached out beside her bed and, not finding Zhang Zhentian by her side, became curious about where he could have gone. She got up, put on her nightdress, and walked towards Zhang Zhentian’s study.

When she arrived at the door of the study, she saw Zhang Zhentian lost in thought while holding a photo of her. She didn’t understand why he would be so engrossed in her picture. She thought to herself, Could it be that Zhentian is keeping something from me? Or is there some issue with the company?

Xia Jing shook her head vigorously and told herself, "Xia Jing, what wild thoughts are you having? How could Zhentian possibly keep anything from you? Don’t you know him well? He can’t hide anything, so stop overthinking!"

Seeing that Zhang Zhentian remained seated without moving, she quietly approached him from behind, wrapped her arms around him, and asked softly, "What are you thinking about? You seem so absorbed."

Hearing Xia Jing’s voice coming from behind him, Zhang Zhentian hurriedly composed himself. He turned around, embraced Xia Jing, and said, "Dear, no matter what happens in the future, can we never part ways?"

Xia Jing didn’t understand why Zhang Zhentian would suddenly say such a thing. As soon as the words left his mouth, Xia Jing felt an increasing unease. She pushed Zhang Zhentian away and asked, "Zhentian, is something wrong? Why would you suddenly say these things to me?"

Zhang Zhentian thought for a moment and felt it would be better not to tell Xia Jing. He was waiting for Xia Jing to come clean to him because that way, the outcome would be much better than if he were to confront her directly.

"Nothing’s wrong, I just really fear losing you. By the way, are you awake now?" After replying to Xia Jing, Zhang Zhentian quickly changed the subject, fearing that she would probe further.

"It’s good that nothing’s wrong. Do I look like I haven’t slept well after sleeping for so long?" Xia Jing believed what Zhang Zhentian said and responded to him with a smile.

"It’s good that you’re awake. I’m sorry about yesterday. I lost control for a moment, which is why you’re so tired. Rest well today, and don’t go out. I’ll have Aunt Xu bring your meals up to you!"

"How can that be okay? Aunt Xu is getting on in years, and all that climbing up and down would be too tiring for her. I should just go down to eat; it would be more convenient. But if I rest, what are you going to do?" Xia Jing asked, tilting her head at Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian was stupefied for a moment. He had originally planned to take this chance to investigate the identity of that unfamiliar man, but how could he explain this to Xia Jing without arousing suspicion?

"What are you thinking about? Why aren’t you speaking?" Xia Jing thought that maybe Zhang Zhentian was feeling unwell, and she reached out to touch his forehead to see if he had a fever. But before her hand could touch him, Zhang Zhentian dodged her, causing Xia Jing to pause momentarily. Afterward, Zhang Zhentian realized that his reaction had been too obvious.

"No, nothing’s wrong. You just rest well. I have to go out for a bit!" Zhang Zhentian attempted to brush Xia Jing off with an excuse, but Xia Jing wasn’t a fool. How could she let Zhang Zhentian lie to her face?

"You have things to do? Didn’t dad say that you don’t have to work these few days and to stay home with me?" Xia Jing didn’t understand why Zhang Zhentian was unwilling to follow Elder Zhang’s advice to spend more time with her at home, and she grew deeply suspicious of Zhang Zhentian’s behavior.

"I really have something to do. How about I make it up to you in a few days?"

"No, unless you tell me exactly what’s so important that you, Zhang Zhentian, must attend to it no matter what. Otherwise, don’t even think about asking me to let you go out!" Xia Jing’s displeasure rose, and she felt an almost furious impulse brewing within her!

"I’ve told you that I have things to do as well, do you expect me to stay at home with you every day? Without work, what would I use to support you?" Zhang Zhentian yelled at Xia Jing directly.

Xia Jing was stunned. She didn’t expect that just saying those words would make Zhang Zhentian yell at her. She also shouted back, "Zhang Zhentian, why are you yelling at me? I haven’t provoked you. If you really don’t want to stay at home with me, then leave now..."

"Leave? I will leave. It’s insane, arguing with me so early in the morning. I’ve said I’m busy, yet you still make an unreasonable fuss!" Zhang Zhentian muttered as he walked away.

Unable to hold back any longer, Xia Jing shouted at Zhang Zhentian, "Zhang Zhentian, stop right there! What do you mean by me making an unreasonable fuss? It’s clearly you who has something to hide, that’s why you want to go out. It’s because you don’t know how to face me, so you choose ’out of sight, out of mind’, right?"

"What nonsense are you talking about? Even if there were indeed something to hide, it would be you hiding it, not me, Zhang Zhentian. I haven’t done anything to betray your trust, and I feel no guilt towards you!" Zhang Zhentian was at his breaking point, almost revealing everything Xia Jing had done, but he still held it back. He wanted Xia Jing to come to him and talk about it first!

"I have something to hide? Zhang Zhentian, since the day I met you, I have never done anything to wrong you. I, Xia Jing, have a clear conscience!" Xia Jing declared assuredly to Zhang Zhentian, not realizing that there must be a reason he was saying this!

"A clear conscience? Xia Jing, do you really feel no guilt towards me? If so, then I want to ask you, since we’ve been together, has anyone called you or sent you any ambiguous messages?" Zhang Zhentian was pressing her hard now, with every word he took a step closer to Xia Jing, until eventually she had no room left to retreat, as he continued to advance.

"Zhang Zhentian, have you gone mad? What have I done to make you so angry, to drive me to the edge?" Xia Jing felt the Zhang Zhentian she saw before her was so unfamiliar. She wondered, is this still the Zhang Zhentian I know?

The argument between the two had been raging for over two hours, and by now, the day was already bright. When Old Master Zhang got up, he heard the two fighting to the point of being at each other’s throats, and he slowly approached them.

"Xia Jing, I’m giving you a chance to come clean. Otherwise, don’t blame me for really getting angry!" Zhang Zhentian didn’t want to wait for Xia Jing to speak up anymore; he wanted to know what was going on right then and there.

"Don’t even try to pin things I didn’t do on me!"

"Fine, it seems you won’t shed a tear until you’re in the coffin!"

If Xia Jing knew exactly what had happened, she definitely wouldn’t have asserted herself so confidently to Zhang Zhentian. Just as Zhang Zhentian was about to reveal everything, Old Master Zhang arrived.

"What are you two quarreling about so early in the morning? What’s there to fight about?" As soon as Old Master Zhang spoke, both of them quieted down, not saying another word.

"Dad, Zhentian is hiding something from me. He said he had things to take care of today and told me to stay at home and rest. I wasn’t happy about it, so he yelled at me!" Xia Jing was shrewd, playing the victim before Zhang Zhentian could even begin to complain.

Old Master Zhang was eager to be a grandfather, so how could he allow Zhang Zhentian to just go out?

"Zhentian, did you take my words for nothing but wind? Didn’t I say that you should not go out to work during this time and instead stay at home to bond with Xia Jing? I thought you two were getting along rather well last night!" Old Master Zhang’s comment was embarrassing, and Xia Jing, who had been secretly pleased at the thought of Zhang Zhentian being scolded, now felt it might have been better left unsaid. Wasn’t it awkward to say such things?
