Chapter 1019: Chapter 892 Speak the Truth_13

"Dad, have you had breakfast?" I carefully asked Old Master Zhang.

Old Master Zhang glanced at me unhappily and said: "Why do you care if I’ve eaten or not? Had enough to drink?" He refused to answer my question and caught me off guard.

Just hearing the tone of my dad’s voice, I knew he was still angry with me. I had to admit my mistake to find out about Xia Jing.

"Dad, I know I was wrong, please don’t be angry. I promise I won’t secretly drink again." I vowed to Old Master Zhang.

Seeing my attitude of admitting fault, Old Master Zhang said: "Alright, what’s the matter?"

I quickly asked: "Dad, can you tell me about the thing I asked you the other day?"

Although Old Master Zhang knew I was asking because of Xia Jing, he didn’t expect me to be so direct.

"What thing?" Old Master Zhang feigned ignorance.

I was taken aback; could my dad have forgotten what we talked about? Dad had a great memory; even things from a long time ago he’d remember, let alone something from a few days ago. Was he testing my sincerity?

"Dad, it was the day I accidentally burned you with boiling water." I said timidly to Old Master Zhang.

"Oh, you burned me with boiling water? How come I don’t remember?" Old Master Zhang continued to feign forgetfulness while watching my reaction.

Seeing him like this, I could only muster the courage and say: "Dad, I was wrong that day. I was distracted and failed to control my emotions, saying hurtful things to you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me!" I lowered my head to Old Master Zhang.

"So you can say sorry. Zhentian, do I truly have a place in your heart? Since you got involved with Xia Jing, all you talk about is her. I’m afraid I’m no longer your priority." Old Master Zhang said softly.

My father’s sudden question left me speechless—how could I say? Could I tell the father who raised me for decades, ’Dad, you’re right; you no longer have a place in my heart?’ That would hurt him. But if I said, ’Dad, you’re wrong; you’ll always be my priority,’ though it might comfort him, Xia Jing would be upset if she found out. I was torn, not knowing what would be best for my father.

Old Master Zhang seemed to understand my hesitation and said: "Don’t try to find something to please everyone. I asked you because I want you to be honest."

Hearing that made it even harder for me to speak.

"Dad, I..."

Old Master Zhang suddenly stood up and slapped me: "Are you not a man? Speak directly when asked. I despise indecisiveness. How can you succeed? I can’t fathom why Xia Jing chose someone so hesitant. If I were her, I’d never return after leaving!"

Old Master Zhang was shaking with anger, and I screamed back at him: "It’s true, Xia Jing is all I think about, I’m indecisive, but I’m still your son—this fact won’t change."

The first part didn’t hurt Old Master Zhang, but the last part made his face turn red with anger.

"You want to know if Xia Jing went to the company to see you, don’t you?" Old Master Zhang asked calmly.

"I’ve asked you several times without an answer. I know I was wrong to be careless with the boiling water, but I already apologized to you. What more do you want from me?" I shouted, enraged.

"You want to know, so I’ll tell you. You’re partly right; Xia Jing went to the company partly looking for you, and partly to see me." Old Master Zhang revealed Xia Jing’s purpose.

"Xia Jing really went to the company to find me, yet I missed seeing her due to my pettiness." I muttered to myself. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Old Master Zhang watched my despondency, unsure of what to say as he turned to leave.

"Dad, you said Xia Jing also went to see you—why?" I asked.

"Is there a problem?"

"Dad, can you tell me why Xia Jing went to see you? Do you know where she’s gone?"

Old Master Zhang’s expression didn’t change, though he felt secretly pleased inside: "Finally, you got to this point!"

Old Master Zhang just looked at me without speaking. Seeing this, I grew more suspicious.

"Dad, are you hiding the truth? Do you know where Xia Jing went?"

"Zhentian, why ask me that? How could I know where she is?" Old Master Zhang replied with a counter-question.

"You must know," I said confidently."
