My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 34 - 33: Escalating Chaos
Step~ Step~ Step~
The crisp sound of footsteps came from the corridor outside the laboratory. If you listened carefully, you’d notice that the intervals were extremely even, with no hint of panic.
Upon hearing the noise, the four soldiers guarding the isolation room became alert and simultaneously aimed their guns at the laboratory door.
Ah Gu pressed his forehead against the glass of the isolation door, eagerly observing the situation outside.
The footsteps in the corridor grew closer and closer, seemingly already at the laboratory’s doorstep.
The heavy atmosphere lingered inside the laboratory, and the soldiers were ready to open fire the moment an intruder appeared.
The next second, a boy dressed like a high school student turned a corner and approached. He acted as if the fully armed soldiers didn’t exist at all and headed straight for the isolation room.
From Ah Gu’s perspective, this scene was utterly irrational.
After all, the task of those four soldiers was to guard Ah Gu, who was hiding in the isolation room.
Under such circumstances, for a stranger to suddenly appear, they should at least stop and question him, if not shoot him on the spot.
Yet nothing happened. Judging from the soldiers’ expressions, they still seemed wary, focusing on the laboratory entrance, bizarrely ignoring the refined high school student who had walked in.
The whole process was so uncanny it induced a sense of oppression, making Ah Gu instinctively want to flee.
To be fair, Ah Gu had anticipated being tracked down by a Death Fighter, but he didn’t expect the first one to come knocking would be so strange.
What unsettled him most was his inability to guess what kind of ability this stranger possessed.
It was certain that invisibility wasn’t sufficient to explain it, but if it involved large-scale cognitive modification... then it clearly fell outside the range of Silver abilities.
"Is it the effect of pairing two abilities?" Ah Gu thought he should say something.
The boy suddenly vanished from Ah Gu’s sight, then reappeared.
The odd behavior of the boy inexplicably relaxed Ah Gu. Whether it was hinting or showing off, it certainly had a communicative intent.
The high school boy winked provocatively: "Open the door."

Ah Gu complied, trying his best to appear relaxed: "How about cooperation?"
"No need for cooperation. If you don’t want to be eliminated now, come with me."
...
"Where was the Twenty-Third District again?"
Lv Bai, carrying a coldly gleaming Eight-sided Han Sword, leapt onto the high wall of the military base and looked around.
He didn’t go looking for Wu Ya and the others immediately. Instead, he left the military base first, dug out the Eight-sided Han Sword he had buried by the roadside, and then returned.
After all, he was just repaying the goodwill Wu Ya expressed, not their babysitter.
He didn’t mind protecting others, but it had to be based on the premise of his own safety.
This temporary refuge had gathered over a hundred Death Fighters. Even though Lv Bai knew he was undoubtedly stronger than other Death Fighters, he didn’t think he could rampage through the entire military base without concern.
Lv Bai called out the system panel, confirmed Ah Gu hadn’t moved, then exited it and leapt off the high wall.
In all honesty, the time from fetching his sword to returning wasn’t too long, but the chaos within the placement point had already spread to an uncontrollable level.
On his way to the Twenty-Third District, he saw panicked crowds fleeing, occasionally spotting the shadows of zombies.
The population density at the placement point was too high. Once zombies broke in, the virus spread would increase their numbers exponentially.
Lv Bai couldn’t possibly slay all the zombies he encountered, only dealing with those blocking his path.
The closer he got to the Twenty-Third District, the fewer citizens he encountered along the way, replaced by grotesque and bloody creatures.
This clearly indicated something unspeakable.
Although he didn’t want to be too pessimistic, Lv Bai thought the chances of Wu Ya and the others still being alive were negligible.
With a single slash, he decapitated two zombies, and the entrance to the Twenty-Third District came into view.
Da-da-da!
The intense gunfire hadn’t ceased, and soldiers were still resisting at the entrance.
Yet both sides of the passage were blocked by large numbers of zombies, making it difficult to break through. This kind of resistance was nothing but slow death.
Gaps were everywhere in the color steel wall that separated the placement point, and large sections of the wall had been violently crushed.
"Damn it! I’ll fight you to the end!"
Sun Chuan, wielding an automatic rifle, stood behind a comrade with a riot shield, continuously unleashing a barrage of bullets.
He felt remarkably unlucky. At this rate, he feared he’d be eliminated without earning any points. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Being randomly assigned a military beginning as a Death Fighter had briefly filled him with excitement.
After the outbreak of the virus, watching the rapidly dwindling number of Death Fighters on the system panel, he decisively chose to lay low in the military base, hoping to snag a spot in the top ten.
Unfortunately, fate was against him, and he hadn’t been lying low for long before he was called into the newly formed rapid response unit.
Regardless of what happened, his squad had to promptly rush to the scene.
Especially tonight, as soon as they received the order to blockade the passage, he felt uneasy, yet with his comrades by his side, he found no chance to escape.
Sun Chuan anxiously patted the magazine hanging from his shoulder.
He swallowed hard, knowing he couldn’t wait any longer.
Once the last magazine was spent, he would be overwhelmed by the zombies in an instant.
He had to make a run for it, even if there was only a sliver of possibility, he had to try.
Seizing the moment when his teammates took turns reloading, he braced himself, hastily grabbing the back collar of the riot shield carrier in front of him and yanked them backward.
The soldier with the riot shield lost his balance and fell backward.
The zombies, previously kept at bay outside the passage, weren’t going to miss this opportunity, all pouncing madly on the soldier lying on the ground.
Taking advantage of the distraction caused by the zombies’ focus on his comrade, Sun Chuan dashed toward a direction where there were relatively fewer zombies.
Credit where it’s due, Sun Chuan excellently seized the fleeting opportunity. He just needed to dispatch the two outermost zombies to break through.
This wasn’t a challenge for him, wielding an automatic rifle.
Yet his luck never seemed on his side.
A tent on the side suddenly collapsed, and a zombie burst forth, crashing into him.
"Damn!"
The terrifying force sent Sun Chuan flying six or seven meters, and even suffering a fracture was minor compared to scrambling to his feet and continuing to flee.
In his despair, Sun Chuan caught a glimpse of a figure standing behind the collapsed tent with the corner of his eye.
"Help... save..."
Unable to voice a coherent plea, blood surged from his throat as soon as he tried.
Lv Bai didn’t offer a helping hand, merely standing there scratching the back of his head, wearing an innocently harmless smile.
