Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 427 - 418: The Envoy
"Boss, I need three bottles of Star’s Dream! Hurry up, please!"
"Do you have any Moonshadow Blessing Potions left? Any left?"
"Boss Dylan, I’ve been waiting for ages!"
As soon as Puki’s House opened today, a crowd of customers rushed in, clamoring for various potions, overwhelming Dylan with the chaos, which was somewhat unexpected.
Due to some of the potions sold at Puki’s House being special formulations from the Elves, they have always been irreplaceable for adventurers with specific needs. Even though the prices are steep, business has remained good.
But it’s never been like this, with a crowd like old ladies scrambling for eggs, almost breaking down the threshold.
The reason was the news from the western front: the Western border had been ravaged by the Demon Race, and Three Mountains City was on the brink of collapse.
Bianca struggled to part the crowd, lifting a maid Puki to prevent it from being stomped to death.
However, soon enough, even she was swept away by the jostling crowd, losing her sense of direction, only able to shield space for the Puki.
A warrior in armor passed by behind her, the hard armor striking Bianca on the back of her head.
Just as she staggered forward, a strong hand steadily caught her shoulder.
"Are you okay, little shop assistant?" Vera, dressed in light armor, stood behind her, using her arms to create some space, escorting her and the Puki out of the crowd.
"Th-thank you, Vera." As a regular at Puki’s House, Bianca naturally recognized her.
Dylan also noticed what was happening and boldly shouted at the crowd: "Stop pushing! It’s all sold out! What’s the point of pushing? Nearly injured my staff!"
"What? It’s all gone?"
"It’s gone so quickly here as well..."
Amid disappointed murmurs, the crowd gradually left Puki’s House.
Only then did Dylan have the chance to thank Bianca: "Vera, thank you very much."
"No problem..." Vera said, looking at the empty potion cabinet, slightly disappointed as she headed towards the door.
Dylan called after her: "Are you looking for any potions? Whisperer’s Brew?"
Vera’s eyes lit up: "Yes! And the Green Whisper Potion!"
Dylan rummaged below the counter and brought out two bottles of each potion: "That’s all there is."
"That’s enough, enough!" Vera swiftly counted out silver coins, carefully storing the potions in her waistband.
"Vera, are you going to the Western border?" Dylan suddenly asked.
"Why do you ask?"
"Now those rushing to stock up on potions are either fleeing eastwards to take refuge or heading westwards to fight the demons." Dylan tidied up the messy counter, "I don’t think you’re the type to flee."
Vera nodded in agreement: "Although the raiding troops of the Demon Race have left, there are still some scattered demons wandering around causing havoc. While we adventurers can’t change the course of the war, we can handle the smaller groups of demons."
"Be careful," Dylan looked at this quite likable young man and gave a word of caution, "Keep an eye on the news from Three Mountains City; don’t risk your life."
Vera waved and left Puki’s House.
Dylan’s reason for reminding him to pay attention to news from Three Mountains City was simple. As the last stronghold against the Demon Race in the Western line, if it fell, the United Kingdom would be forced to completely abandon its western side. At that time, adventurers like Vera would have to retreat from the west immediately to survive.
After leaving Puki’s House, Vera walked along the cobblestone street towards the Adventurer’s Guild, where he had arranged to meet his teammates.
As he passed by the "Lucky Gold Coins" casino, he suddenly heard a commotion.
Two figures could be seen being roughly thrown out, crashing heavily onto the ground.
One was an unfamiliar wanderer lying on the ground, angrily slapping his ears and muttering repeatedly "I deserve to die."
The other was a familiar face...
"Please! At least give my Puki back!" Horn clung desperately to the casino bouncer’s leg, crying with tears and snot, "I promise that with the money I earn with Puki, I’ll come back to pay off the debt!"
The bouncer impatiently kicked his hand away: "Trying to take back what you lost? Go borrow money from your shady friends!"
Vera silently turned his head and quickened his pace to bypass the farce.
It’s not that he didn’t want to help Horn, but truly helping him would require getting him to quit gambling. Vera wasn’t free enough to do that, so he could only wish him good luck. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
There was a bustling crowd in front of the Adventurer’s Guild, gathered around the newly posted recruitment notice for the Puki Master.
The notice was written in bold letters, outlining generous conditions and bearing the official seal.
Vera found his teammates not far from the notice board.
Vera had bought the potions, Fei Yin got the casting props, and Sirean sheepishly shrugged; he was surrounded by male adventurers trying to chat, unable to get any potions.
And just then, Fei Ling emerged from the Guild, wielding a parchment: "There’s just the task of escorting Puki to Golden Valley City!"
Due to the great randomness in the Puki produced on the fungal mat, although Puki can be fed and raised on the front line, for uniform functionality and ease of command in battle, they need to be selected from the rear and transported forward.
This was clearly an official task.
After presenting the task scroll, Fei Ling suddenly remembered something: "Oh right, I originally wanted to ask Lord Edin about his friend’s name, but the staff said Edin already set off near the front line."
Vera nodded, although a little disappointed to miss him again, he completely understood.
In such times of crisis, everyone is doing their part, nobody wants to stand by and watch the Empire’s iron hooves trample over the United Kingdom.
"Did you ask Lord Edin which direction he went? Could he also be near Golden Valley City?"
"That’s not it, they said he went to Red Stone City."
"Red Stone City... I remember..."
"It’s the city Silver Thorn Squad won, south of Three Mountains City, with a fortress in between."
Fei Yin interjected: "Thinking about it now, ’winning a city’, in these chaotic times, it’s really hard to say if it’s a good thing..."
The world situation changes too fast; who could have foreseen it then?
For a moment, everyone was silent, only able to quietly pack their gear, ready to embark on a new journey.
...
Meanwhile, in the City Lord’s Mansion of Red Stone City.
The captain of Silver Thorn Squad, Nova, respectfully welcomed Edin into his office.
This courtesy was not only due to Edin’s Diamond Level strength but more importantly, Edin came as the special envoy of Duke’s Daughter Inanna.
As soon as they were seated, Edin took out a magic item engraved with intricate runes and activated it right in front of Nova.
Nova looked puzzled but did not interrupt Edin.
With the item activated, wisps of silver-gray mist emerged from it, spread along the walls, and quickly enveloped the room in a layer of flowing fog.
"Maze Barrier Gauze, capable of completely isolating external probing," Edin voluntarily explained.
Yet this left Nova even more puzzled: "So, Miss Inanna sent you here for what exactly..."
Edin didn’t beat around the bush, he looked directly into Nova’s eyes, speaking clearly: "For the Yesheng Wood Core, the divine artifact fragment in your possession."
"You...!"
