Mushroom Lord in the Underground City-Chapter 415 - 406: Humiliation
"Take it off! Help me get this disgusting thing off quickly!"
Bella jumped back after vomiting, her face pale as she pointed at the Puki covered in her vomit.
Though the Captain of the Guard looked puzzled, he still picked up the struggling Puki as instructed and tossed it back into the pile.
He then asked, "What happened?"
"It was...so disgusting...ugh..." It was Bella’s first time seeing those chaotic colors, and she couldn’t control the nausea, only stopping when she had emptied her stomach.
Once her breathing steadied, Bella refused to go near the Pukis.
Had she not known in advance that these were friendly magic pets, she would’ve sliced them to pieces and tossed them into the sea to feed the fish.
Lin Jun, on the other hand, was controlling a Puki, lying despondently in the pile, too lazy to care about the sticky vomit on him.
Humiliation!
For Dylan, he had lowered himself, acting cute to please others!
And what was the result?!
The Puki suffered corrosive damage from stomach acid!
This foolish woman, the humiliation of this day will be repaid a hundredfold...but on Dylan!
...
Sofia’s decision to send Bella for support was indeed correct. The Captain of the Guard originally intended to leave immediately after confirming the Pigmen had scattered.
He viewed every extra moment as an unnecessary risk to the Hero’s safety.
In fact, he was not in favor of coming down to rescue these people in the first place.
However, as Sofia’s attendant, Bella insisted on carrying out the Hero’s orders.
Under her urging, the guards had to assist in waking the Puki Masters dazed by Hallucinogenic Spores.
"We’re not dead?" a young Puki Master rubbed his forehead, sitting up and looking around in confusion.
"The people from the Church saved us!" Another person exclaimed, looking at the guards excitedly, "God of Light bless!"
As the group awoke from their chaotic dreams and realized they had miraculously survived, sighs of relief and lingering fear filled the air.
Angela was also surprised to be alive, but when she saw the barely visible mycelium in her wounds, she was somewhat bewildered.
At that moment, two Church Warriors pushed Baron Morton and his daughter into the crowd. The girl’s face was covered in tears, while Morton looked deathly pale.
As soon as they appeared, someone spat angrily, "Traitors!"
"Let me kill him! He caused the deaths of so many of us!"
Everyone who had survived wished they could rush forward and beat him to death, but the guards stood in front, clearly leaving Bella and the Captain of the Guard to decide his fate.
Baron Morton lowered his head to the ground, knowing survival was impossible, and made a final plea, "I deserve to die a thousand deaths! All I ask is...spare Lucia; she had nothing to do with my actions."
Lucia cried for her father: "Father..."
The Captain of the Guard, expressionless, drew his Longsword: "A traitor’s end is to lose everything he desires."
Baron Morton wept, struggling at the Captain’s feet, desperately pleading: "It’s me! Everything is my fault! She’s just an innocent child! Please, in the name of God of Light Ikezion, spare her life!"
"Anyone who collaborates with the Demon Race and harms their kin doesn’t deserve to invoke our Lord’s name!"
"No—!"
The Captain of the Guard beheaded him in Morton’s despairing gaze. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Lucia let out a scream that didn’t sound human, collapsing to the ground trembling violently, overwhelmed by fear and unable to cry.
The Captain of the Guard flicked the blood off his sword and, without hesitation, walked toward the girl collapsed on the ground.
His towering figure cast a shadow in the moonlight, completely enveloping Lily.
"Enough already!" Bella quickly stepped forward, pressing her hand on the Captain’s sword arm, "The traitor has been executed in absolute despair, receiving his punishment. But this girl, she is innocent!"
The Captain did not forcibly break away, showing respect for Bella as a comrade, but he still shook his head: "’Sacred Word’ records: ’The blood of sinners is not redeemed.’ The United Kingdom’s law expressly states: betraying your Race implicates your kin. If we leave her alive today, other traitors will be deluded into thinking that dying alone can save their families, thus acting recklessly!"
He then gently pushed Bella aside.
During their previous journey, Bella’s courage and wit earned the Captain’s respect, seeing her as a comrade. Though they disagreed now, it didn’t disgust him, applying just the necessary force.
Pushed back a step, Bella watched the Captain approach the girl again. She took a deep breath, speaking in a tone only the Captain could hear: "But would Lady Sofia...wish you to do this? Would she want to see an innocent’s blood stain her follower’s Longsword?"
The Captain paused in his steps, looking past Bella toward the distant sea where a ship’s silhouette stood hazy in the moonlight, as if sensing the Hero’s possible gaze at this moment.
After a long pause, he flipped his wrist; a crisp sheathing sound followed as the Longsword returned to its scabbard.
"In her situation," he didn’t look at the girl again, his voice containing an indefinable emotion, "living might not be easier than dying."
Subsequently, he spoke no further, instructing the Church Warriors to gather quickly, preparing to leave.
As for those surviving soldiers from Golden Valley City, their survival was now their responsibility.
Entrusted with the highest mission to protect the Hero, they couldn’t remain to nanny these remnants.
Fortunately, the survivors from Golden Valley City didn’t harbor unrealistic hopes.
Back on the ship, the sails adjusted, and the vessel moved away from the coast, propelled by the ocean’s Power.
For the Hero’s team, holding the incomplete Divine Artifact "Ocean Staff," the vast sea is decidedly safer than land.
Over the coming extended period, they would endeavor not to land.
Yet, facing the increasingly deteriorating state of the Continent, Sofia couldn’t stand idly by.
Under her insistence, the ship adjusted its course, continuing north along the coastline, aiming to make a difference wherever possible.
At the stern, Bella leaned against the railing, squinting at the receding coastline, recalling the scene before leaving with a peculiar expression.
She saw a Puki Master waking up, thanking them while reattaching his severed arm.
With no medical means, he abruptly forced it together, and soon his fingers could move.
It left her stunned, wondering if these people were even human.
But considering that Sofia hadn’t commented, it was presumably some new technology from the Kingdom...
Yet thinking of those Pukis, she felt a bit nauseous again.
...
When the sun set again, Angela’s team returned to Golden Valley City.
Half of them were lost, but they brought back far more bodies than expected, some still fresh...
Meanwhile, Dylan, having just greeted Bianca after her shift, leaned against the shop’s door, exhaling as he watched the girl’s silhouette.
He felt like this lively young girl had healed his weary heart lately, sleeping more soundly.
Closing the shop door, preparing to rest, he noticed a note on the counter that wasn’t there before!
The moment he read its contents, Dylan’s heart clenched:
[Want to know your daughter’s whereabouts? Midnight at 2 AM, a deserted village north of town.]
"Boss...did anyone enter the shop earlier?"
"Sorry, I didn’t notice!"
