Chapter 338: 338 - The Rise of the Divine Sorceress

POV: Norn Greyrat

She won.

Defeating the Martial God, the supreme swordsman, my sister, Aisha, became the new number one of the Kingdom of Gaia.

Or... to be more exact, number two.

But it had been many years since anyone considered the Beast God as part of the ranking. He was above those classifications. After all, the Twelve Kings themselves had been created to assist him.

Even so, it was real.

I didn’t understand much of the battle.

From what I managed to follow, Jino attacked, Aisha activated a strange dome-shaped magic, Jino analyzed that barrier for a brief instant... and then disappeared again. When he reappeared, he had already lost.

Everything lasted only a few seconds.

Around me, people shouted and celebrated intensely. Some cried, cursing their lost bets, others laughed and hugged each other. But all of them were excited about my sister’s victory.

It was kind of strange and unreal to watch that.

I knew, at least in theory, how strong Jino Britz was. They said he had reached a level where he could cut mountains in half and wipe out entire armies alone.

And yet... he lost.

To Aisha.

I had practiced the North God Style and the Sword God Style for many years. I always considered myself a hardworking person—very hardworking, actually.

I had reached the Intermediate level in both styles. I trained until my hands were full of calluses, fell, got back up, repeated.

I also learned Intermediate Healing Magic from my mother.

And... that was it.

In the same time that I advanced step by step, my sister became a God-rank mage, founded a gigantic academy—where even I studied—and now became the most powerful person in the entire Kingdom.

I was walking on my legs, and she was flying high with her wings.

And it wasn’t just her.

My other older brother, Rudeus, had become one of the Seven World Powers, known as the Mage God. Some called him the Right Hand of the Dragon God.

...why were we so different?

I didn’t have to lead any academy, nor did I have important missions to occupy me. I wasn’t at the center of conspiracies or decisions that changed the world.

I joined the Guard Division of the Great Forest, but there were rarely real problems.

Most of the time, I just trained. I should have advanced a little more than them, shouldn’t I?

I could never understand.

How could someone cut a mountain with a sword?

That shouldn’t be humanly possible.

I had managed to cut a stone recently, and that had already been a huge achievement for me.

As I watched Aisha in the arena—now talking with Jino before leaving the stage—I heard a voice calling me.

"Hey, girl! Are you Norn?"

I turned, distracted.

An elf was there. She wore adventurer clothes and a sword at her waist, had golden curly hair, vivid blue eyes, and a confident smile.

She was very beautiful—and clearly drew attention wherever she went—but didn’t seem to care in the slightest.

I replied instinctively:

"Ah... yes. That’s me. Do I know you?"

She smiled even more. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"Well, I thought I’d have trouble finding you. You look exactly like your mother!"

Before I could react, she stepped closer and pulled me into a hug... far too intimate.

I froze.

I didn’t know what to do, or what to say.

When she finally pulled away, she looked at the arena again and sighed.

"So that’s Aisha? Looks like she’s really a little monster like her brother."

A bad feeling rose in my chest when I heard that.

Even without knowing who that woman was, my impression of her turned negative.

"Ah... excuse me," I asked, trying to keep my composure. "Who are you?"

The elf turned her gaze back to me and smiled.

"I’m Elinalise Dragonroad. I’m here to take you home."

She looked me up and down, seeming uncertain.

"Well... if you want to go, of course."

---

Meanwhile, the crowd remained in ecstasy.

The news spread quickly through magic communicators, and, little by little, the stands began to empty.

Soon, all the headquarters of the Iron Legion, scattered across the entire world, would know who the new Number One Blade of the Kingdom of Gaia was.

Aisha and Jino left the battlefield side by side, with completely opposite expressions.

Aisha was radiant and smiling, and she made no effort to hide it, provoking and boasting to the defeated opponent.

Jino, on the other hand, was scowling, unable to find any convincing argument to defend himself or retort.

On the path toward the mountain from earlier, two women approached them.

"Jino!" Nina called.

Jino turned immediately, with a thread of hope. Maybe his dear wife could at least comfort him after that defeat.

"You bastard!" Nina shouted. "I lost my magic cloak because I bet on you!"

She yanked Jino’s ear hard, clearly irritated.

Meanwhile, Jino was sinking into an indescribable emptiness, betrayed by his own companion.

Another voice rang out, cheerful and satisfied:

"Hehe, thanks for winning, little girl! I didn’t teach you wrong!"

Aisha turned, recognizing the voice immediately.

"Master Reida! So you were watching!"

Reida’s expression darkened at once.

"I was, yes. Even though my own student didn’t come invite me personally!"

Aisha let out an embarrassed little laugh.

"Well... I wanted to keep some mystery around it!"

As Reida began to bombard Aisha with questions—and Nina kept scolding Jino—the four climbed the internal stairs of the cave carved into the mountain’s interior, until they reached a large Hall.

There, seated around a large table, while one of Verdia’s Spirits served a hearty banquet, were Rygar, Verdia, and Eris, the latter with little Lenna on her lap.

Leo, the Sacred Beast, slept sprawled on a couch beside Eris. He opened his eyes for a brief instant upon noticing the guests’ arrival, but soon went back to sleep.

And then there was Rufus.

The red-haired dwarf looked like a real dwarf now. Sturdy body, strong musculature, full beard, heavy armor, and a large hammer resting by his side.

At first glance, he could easily be mistaken for an ordinary dwarf warrior, if someone considered only his mastery with the hammer—after all, he was a genuine North Saint.

But the truth was that Rufus was one of the few in the world who could call himself a God-rank mage.

A true Earth God.

Although he could only use God-rank Magic with the help of a magic staff that multiplied his efficiency several times over, that did not diminish his legitimacy

Godbard was preparing him as an heir, and soon Rufus would also inherit the title of Mineral God.

Aisha looked at everyone before smiling and greeting:

"Hi, everyone!"

Reida only waved lazily to everyone before going straight to the food, sitting down beside Verdia.

Aisha walked over to Eris, crouching to play with Lenna.

"Hello, little Lenna! How are you?"

The baby responded with a laugh, reaching out and playing with Aisha’s finger.

Eris huffed, pretending irritation.

"Why does it feel like our kids always like you more than they like us?"

Aisha laughed, a bit awkwardly, and stood up.

"Ahaha, come on, that’s not true!"

She then turned and greeted Rygar separately.

"Master!"

Rygar sighed and looked at her, resigned:

"I’ve already told you that you don’t need to call me that anymore. You graduated a long time ago."

"Well..." Aisha replied, smiling, "I’m already used to it. So I’ll keep doing it... unless I find another way to call you."

She held his gaze for an instant longer than necessary.

"Like husband?" Nina teased, still bothering Jino.

Verdia and Eris immediately looked at Nina... and then at Rygar.

Rygar coughed, skillfully changing the subject.

"Ahem! Jino! How did you lose to Aisha so easily? We’re going to have to fight more often. You don’t seem prepared to deal with magic in combat!"

Rufus laughed loudly and added:

"Hahahaha! He’s right, Jino! Who knows, if I learn that magic, maybe I can even defeat you easily too!"

Jino turned red for an instant, but shot back immediately:

"Tch! If you can even learn that magic, Rufus, I’ll cut both my hands off!"

"Ah?! And why couldn’t I?!" the dwarf snapped back.

Eris and Verdia clearly noticed Rygar’s maneuver to avoid the earlier topic, but chose not to comment.

Aisha only smiled at Rygar and then interrupted the argument:

"Ah... I’m sorry, Rufus. I don’t think you’ll be able to learn it, after all."

She sat down beside Eris, while Lenna watched her with curiosity.

All eyes turned to Aisha.

There wasn’t a single person there who wasn’t curious about the God-rank Magic created by the Divine Sorceress, especially after its first feat had been defeating Jino.

Reida asked, mouth full:

"Hmph! So... what kind of madness was that?!"

The hall fell silent and everyone paid attention.

Aisha answered:

"Well, like I mentioned during the fight, it’s an application of your technique, Master. The Deprivation Field, but mixed with magic. It’s the first God-rank Magic I’ve created... and I called it Axiom Frame."

Seeing that everyone was attentive, she continued, raising her hand and counting on her fingers.

"But there are maaaany requirements."

She raised five fingers.

"First: to learn this magic, someone would need to master Master Reida’s Deprivation Field, which is the union of two Secret Techniques of the Water God Style. In other words, at least a Water Emperor."

She lowered one finger.

"Second: that person would need to have a Demon Eye related to enhancement, or be extremely proficient in the Beast God Style to improve visual perception. Because it’s impossible to normally perceive distances inside the spatial dome. Even the user is affected and almost completely loses their sense of direction."

She pointed to her own eye.

"I can do it because of the Clairvoyant Eye, of course."

Another finger lowered.

"Third: you need to be a God-rank mage. Obviously. This magic consumes a looot of mana. I myself can only use it once, and it keeps consuming mana while it’s active. So I can only maintain it for a few minutes before running out of mana."

Eris interrupted, curious:

"Wait! How many minutes?"

Aisha put a finger to her lips and thought.

"Hmm... maybe around twenty, if I want to conserve mana for afterward."

Eris nodded, and Aisha continued.

"Fourth: you need to understand the theory. I still haven’t created a chant for this magic, and when I try to create one, it will probably be extremely complicated. I would have to completely interpret the entire structure to ’translate’ it into a usable chant. It might take several years."

She took a deep breath.

"So, if someone wants to learn this technique, they’ll need to fully understand how it works... which is more complicated than it sounds, since it uses thermodynamic, vector, quantum, geometric, and statistical calculations."

As she spoke, the faces in the room lost any remaining trace of hope. They didn’t even know what those terms meant.

Only Rygar understood.

He had learned all those calculations in his past life. And, since Aisha had always been curious about that kind of subject, he had taught her the basics he still remembered.

His memory was excellent now—he remembered almost everything—but that didn’t mean he was capable of creating something new from it.

He was a combat genius, not a genius of math or physics.

For that, it would take a different kind of genius, a genius like Aisha.

Finally, she lowered the last finger.

"And fifth: to learn it in a short time, you need talent in Barrier, Gravity, and Space Magic. Maybe only Master is qualified... and even he would take several years."

She smiled at the mortified looks of most of them.

Rufus murmured:

"Yeah... well, forget it!"

Jino snapped back to himself first.

"Ah! So I could’ve won if I waited long enough!"

Nina punched him on the head.

"What kind of fighting spirit is that?! You were going to spend twenty minutes just staring at her?!"

Jino rubbed his head, wronged.

Rygar then spoke:

"Well, Jino has a point. I know no one here is going to leak this information, but be especially careful with it. That magic is very powerful, so, obviously, it has limitations. We don’t want our opponents to know that."

He looked at everyone, lingering a little longer on Reida. She only waved in a carefree way—but Rygar felt her sincerity with his senses.

"Besides, that power will serve as a deterrent."

Verdia asked, curious:

"Hm? Aren’t you a sufficient deterrent by yourself already?"

Then Rygar dropped a bomb:

"I’m going to leave the Kingdom of Gaia for a while. Eris will come with me."
