Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 672: Liberation
After the round ended, Seraphina Vaughn couldn’t help but sigh that the Werewolf game is all about human nature, while Shane Warner seemed to lack any humanity.
New Year’s Eve passed in a joyous and lively atmosphere, ushering in a brand new year.
A big group of people gathered and it sure was lively, but the life events of the third and fourth siblings were still unresolved.
This prompted Hazel Yates to start nagging early on New Year’s Day morning: "So many girls came yesterday, and I thought they were all pretty good, but you two, you didn’t even get a single contact number."
Arthur Sutton just kept his head down, eating from his bowl of mochi, while Scott Sutton spoke up: "Mom, these things are about fate; you can’t force it if it’s not meant to be. Besides, I’m not at the age where I need to be pushed into marriage."
Hazel Yates retorted: "I don’t think you’re any easy son to deal with either."
Scott Sutton: "Is that how you talk about your own son?"
Hazel Yates turned to Evan Sutton and said: "Luna, mom seemed to see a girl coming over to find you last night, she looked a bit like that colleague you brought home last time."
Evan Sutton was caught off guard by the sudden shift in conversation towards him. He paused his eating and replied: "Um... she came to pick something up."
Hazel Yates subtly suggested: "I saw you two seem to be getting along quite well."
Evan Sutton lowered his head and took small sips from his soup bowl, saying: "Colleague relationships at the hospital are all pretty good."
Hazel Yates: "Mom thinks that girl is not bad, is she seeing anyone?"
Evan Sutton softly replied: "I’m not sure."
Hazel Yates knew Evan was thoughtful and had his own plans and judgments, so she just smiled and said: "You all, if you meet a suitable girl, you can try dating. None of you are willing to date, and good girls are passing by."
Norman Sutton: "Mom, stop nagging. It’s New Year’s, my ears are getting calloused."
Hazel Yates shot him a look: "I haven’t even mentioned you! Did you provoke Lana again? She initially agreed to spend New Year at our place but canceled all of a sudden yesterday. Was that your doing?"
Norman Sutton scoffed: "What’s it got to do with me? Whether she comes or not, maybe she’s spending time with her boyfriend and doesn’t want to spend New Year at our place."
Audrey Sutton picked up the key information: "Lana has a boyfriend now?"
Phoebe King chimed in: "No wonder someone has been looking like a deflated ball these days."
Norman Sutton: "Who are you sarcastically talking about? What does it matter to me whether she has a boyfriend?!"
Hazel Yates: "You never used to go to the compound, but ever since Lana went there to study, you’ve been going there more often."
Norman Sutton: "I’ve got nothing to do recently, can’t I go over to help you out?"
Hazel Yates: "When have you ever been busy? And weren’t you cooped up in your room playing games during those times? Besides, were you really helping out? You wandered around and disrupted Lana’s studies!"
Norman Sutton grumbled discontentedly: "Hmph, it’s all about Lana, Lana. Is she your real child?"
Hazel Yates: "I wish she was; daughters are more considerate. Look at you brothers, which of you has ever let me feel at ease?"
Franklin Sutton: "Mom, you can say what you want, but don’t drag everyone into it."
The chattering was noisy but also amicable.
During these days of New Year, Audrey Sutton felt like she had gained a lot of weight again at home.
Her belly was getting rounder, and with the first volume of the comic done and temporarily on hiatus, her back pain made it hard for her to sit down and draw with peace of mind.
In contrast, Phoebe King was still lively and full of energy.
Jasmine Lucas visited her once on the third day, saying that the discussions with Vanessa Sterling were very smooth and Vanessa was cooperative.
Now they were having Vanessa write a self-description and collect some picture evidence.
The media was already contacted and they were just waiting for the publication.
She also contacted Vanessa yesterday, and Miles Sterling was still abroad and hadn’t returned.
On the fifth day, Shane Warner resumed work for the first day.
Jasmine Lucas had a friend working in news who she brought along with Vanessa to Audrey Sutton’s house to discuss revising and organizing the drafts, and then planned the subsequent actions.
Audrey Sutton asked: "I think we need to make sure Vanessa is protected before publishing, otherwise, considering Quentin Sterling’s temperament, he might do something to Vanessa upon seeing the report."
Jasmine Lucas: "Actually, my plan is to wait for Miles Sterling to return to the country before we publish, then have journalists ready to pounce. When Miles loses his temper and acts violently toward Vanessa, journalists will catch it live as evidence."
Audrey Sutton was still a bit uneasy, saying: "It feels there’s too much unpredictability in this; plus, we don’t even know when he’ll return. If the journalists can’t intervene in time, Vanessa might not be able to withstand it."
Jasmine Lucas: "Don’t worry, Vanessa has given us the password to her door, and we’ve installed a listening device on her phone, so we can hear what’s happening on her end. We’ll be there right away, and reporters will be well-prepared, so nothing will go wrong."
Audrey Sutton: "What about afterward?"
Jasmine Lucas: "Once the matter creates a buzz, we’ll have police protect Vanessa first, then proceed to sue Miles Sterling for his violent acts. Our legal team is confident we can win this case."
Audrey Sutton considered for a moment and asked: "Then why not just take Vanessa over to your place right now? After all, Miles wouldn’t dare do anything to you guys."
Jasmine Lucas sighed: "Silly sister, if we take Vanessa away now, Miles could counter-sue us for something like human trafficking, and we’d be at fault. As it stands, we’re more like a welfare organization comforting and protecting the victim."
After listening, Audrey Sutton felt it made sense, and the entire plan seemed reasonable and feasible.
Thinking about how Vanessa would soon be free, she felt a surge of excitement.
It was already past four in the afternoon when they completed the draft, and Jasmine Lucas drove Vanessa Sterling.
The sky was overcast; at four in the afternoon, the sky was already gloomy. Vanessa Sterling returned home, holding her computer.
She pushed the door open and stiffened when she saw the pair of black men’s leather shoes placed by the entrance.
She turned her head and saw Miles Sterling, wearing a bathrobe and drying his hair, coming down the stairs.
"Where did you go?"
Vanessa Sterling, feeling inexplicably guilty, averted her gaze and responded while changing her shoes: "Went to Audrey’s place."
Miles Sterling approached, looked at the computer she was holding in her arm, and when he reached out to take it, Vanessa instinctively dodged, clutching the computer even tighter.
Miles Sterling withdrew his hand, looked at her, and asked: "Why bring the computer?"
Vanessa Sterling swallowed and replied: "...Discussing the comic with Audrey."
Miles Sterling looked at her evasive eyes, realizing Vanessa was hiding something from him. He reached out and commanded: "Give it to me."
