Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 555: Am I Really That Petty?
Audrey Sutton looked enviously at Barry Barrett’s bag of stuffed toys and walked over, saying, "Give me a few."
Barry: "Don’t you still have Game Coins? Let the great Sue help you. With your Game Coins, he can get you a whole bunch."
Audrey was just about to hand over the Game Coins without thinking, but suddenly remembered Shane by her side and turned to check his expression.
Shane pretended to be generous and said, "Give them to him."
Audrey was puzzled at his sudden change in attitude, and then she heard him say, "Let him get a lot more, and you can set up a stall by the roadside and probably make some money selling them."
Audrey first handed the Game Coins to Simon, then pulled Shane aside a few steps, trying to persuade him: "President Warner, you’re a businessman. We can’t do money-losing deals, right? Money can bring more benefits, why not do it?"
Shane snorted coldly: "Oh, you’ve calculated that well."
Audrey: "Hehe, that’s only because you taught me well, President Warner."
Shane: "What else can you do with these little things at home besides taking up space? Can they even fit on the bed?"
Audrey laughed and said, "They’ll be for the kids to play with later on. Little kids love this kind of stuff."
Shane eyed her: "Yeah, only a kid like you would like them."
Audrey watched Shane start walking away again and quickly caught up: "Where are you going again?"
Shane: "To make a phone call. You stay here and play with them; I’ll come find you in a while."
Audrey: "Are you finding an excuse to get some fresh air?"
Shane: "Am I that petty?"
Audrey: "Can I say yes?"
A sharp look from Shane and Audrey immediately laughed, shaking her head repeatedly: "No! Our President Warner can handle a lot. He wouldn’t get upset over something so small. Definitely not. But make your call quickly and come find me. I won’t go too far."
Shane: "Okay."
Seeing that he indeed pulled out a phone to dial, Audrey finally relaxed, watched him walk away, and then turned back to find Simon and the others.
Simon could identify which machine and position were easy to grab toys from, so he would only act when he was sure, and he almost always succeeded on the first try.
Audrey’s arms quickly filled up. She glanced around and realized Shane hadn’t returned yet.
Could he really have gone off to sulk?
Audrey was just about to head out to see what was up when she saw Shane coming over with a large transparent bag, as tall as a person, filled with stuffed toys, looking like he had just returned from a warehouse, walking towards her without a care for those around him.
Audrey and the passersby stared wide-eyed in shock: "You, you, you... What... what’s this? Where did it come from?"
Shane brought the bag in front of her: "Aren’t you fond of these? Every style is here. Is this enough?"
Audrey didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Even though she knew Shane did this to make her happy, she truly couldn’t approve of his silly spending: "...Where did you buy this? How much? Can you return it?"
Shane: "Don’t like it?"
Audrey: "...It’s not that. The fun of claw machines is the thrill of the catch. Why buy such a big bag? Are you really going to set up a stall?"
Shane: "So my buys aren’t as good as someone else’s catch?"
Audrey felt like she couldn’t reason with him: "That’s not what I mean. I just mean... there’s no need to spend money like this."
Shane: "It’s only a little money."
Audrey: "..."
Shane: "Do you want them? If not, I’ll give them away."
Audrey glared at him, snatching the bag: "I want them. Why wouldn’t I? Why give away something you paid for?"
Shane exchanged a brief look with Simon from afar; Simon, like everyone else, felt bewildered by Shane’s behavior.
But Shane, feeling like he won this hidden competition, looked a bit more arrogant.
Audrey couldn’t help but mutter: "Someone your age, still so childish."
She finished muttering and looked up, saying, "From now on, you should let me manage your money. You’re too prone to waste it. Money should be spent wisely, not lavishly on unnecessary things."
Shane: "When he was catching them for you, you kept wanting this and that. What I bought now is unnecessary?"
Audrey saw that Shane couldn’t see things differently and feared if she continued speaking, this petty man would really get mad: "Okay, you carry them. They’re so heavy."
Seeing as Shane didn’t get along with Simon, Shane looked displeased as long as Simon was present. So, Audrey found an excuse to leave with Shane before all the Game Coins were spent.
Although Audrey didn’t approve of Shane’s previous actions, she also understood why he acted that way, so she didn’t nag him about it.
Coincidentally, Vanessa Sterling’s signing event had just ended. It’d been a while since they’d seen each other, and Audrey planned to say hello and also wanted to ask about Clarissa Morgan and Quentin Sterling’s divorce.
Was it a real divorce or a sham divorce? And why did they divorce?
Audrey asked Shane to first put the bag of stuffed toys in the car and then come to the backstage lounge of the exhibit to find her.
The backstage area was bustling, with many invited performers chatting and taking photos. Audrey followed Laura Yates in and soon found Vanessa.
"Vanessa?"
When Audrey spotted Vanessa, she had her back turned, rolling up her left sleeve, apparently applying some kind of medicine to her hand.
Hearing Audrey’s voice, Vanessa hurriedly let down her sleeve, somewhat flustered as she screwed the cap back onto a bottle of ointment on the table.
Audrey glanced at it. The ointment was the same she had at home, seemingly for treating bruises and swelling. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"What happened to your hand?"
Vanessa gave a guilty smile, putting the ointment in her bag, and replied, "...It’s nothing, just bumped into something at home."
Audrey noticed that every time she saw Vanessa, she had injuries. Once or twice could be accidents, but more than that, it was definitely not by chance.
Audrey glanced around. Seeing nobody else, she sat next to Vanessa, lifted her hand, and gave her a look. When she didn’t pull away, Audrey gently rolled up Vanessa’s sweater sleeve to find a glaring bruise on her arm, like a shocking birthmark.
Just looking at it, Audrey could almost feel the pain, furrowing her brows and softly probing, "Was... it your brother who hit you?"
