Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 534: Turning Over a New Leaf
Audrey Sutton smiled and replied, "You didn’t do anything wrong, so why be afraid of people gossiping about you?"
Shane Warner: "I didn’t do anything wrong, but I’m afraid some people might deliberately badmouth me behind my back."
Phoebe King took Audrey Sutton’s arm and headed into the cinema, deliberately saying, "Come on, don’t mind them. They’re just rotten men!"
After finding their seats in the cinema, their tickets placed them a row apart. Phoebe King sat right next to Audrey Sutton and said to Shane Warner and Stephen Sutton, "You two sit in the back."
Stephen Sutton didn’t say anything and directly headed to the back row, but Shane Warner was dissatisfied and came over to make Phoebe move: "Sit where the tickets are, move aside."
Phoebe King turned to Audrey Sutton and acted cutely, "Sister-in-law~"
Before Audrey Sutton could say anything, Shane Warner pulled Phoebe King’s arm and lifted her out of the seat, "This is my wife, and we’re on a hard-earned date, don’t mess it up here."
Phoebe King couldn’t out-stubborn Shane Warner and didn’t dare to argue with him; the movie started rolling the opening scenes, so Phoebe reluctantly went to the back row, sitting next to Stephen Sutton.
As soon as she sat down, Stephen Sutton said, "You’re the one who wanted to see the movie. If you give me that face again, there won’t be a next time."
Phoebe King pouted and muttered, "Always threatening me, I listen to you every time, but you never compromise for me."
Stephen Sutton acted like he didn’t hear her complaints, his gaze fixed on the screen without saying another word.
Phoebe King rolled her eyes at him and continued mumbling, "You just bully me because my family is far away!"
Stephen Sutton turned to look at her, "You’re always messing around, try to be sensible and worry me less."
Phoebe King: "I’m your wife, isn’t it your job to worry about me? Did you think you could marry such a beautiful wife and not give anything in return? Dream on!"
Stephen Sutton raised his hand and pinched her cheek hard, making Phoebe King wince in pain, swatting his hand away and glaring at him, "You have issues!"
Stephen Sutton’s expression held a trace of amusement, "I thought your skin was so thick it wouldn’t hurt."
Phoebe King huffed and turned her head, "Watch the movie, don’t talk to me!"
Compared to them, Audrey Sutton and Shane Warner in the front were much more harmonious.
Audrey Sutton held a tub of popcorn, occasionally feeding Shane Warner a piece. Whenever she saw something that resonated with her, she’d lean over and whisper a few words to Shane Warner.
A few days ago, Phoebe King was chatting with Audrey Sutton and asked how her marriage was so sweet.
Audrey Sutton explained that when she first got married, she and Shane Warner had plenty of disagreements. Now they’re harmonious partly because they understand each other better, and partly because they’ve fought out all their arguments. After they fought, they both self-corrected, so there’s not much left to argue about now.
Especially at the beginning, Shane Warner had a way of speaking that wasn’t pleasant, and she used to get really annoyed. Now that she’s figured out his personality and knows he can’t say anything nice, she doesn’t get angry with him anymore. Even if she wanted to argue, she couldn’t.
Now that she’s pregnant with his child, he’s become tenderer, and even when they bicker for fun, Shane Warner is the first to give in.
After coming out of the cinema, the four went to a barbecue restaurant downstairs.
For someone like Shane Warner, who always keeps fit and watches his diet, greasy fried pork chops aren’t on the menu unless Audrey wants them—otherwise, he’d never touch them.
Whenever he dislikes some food for its high calories, Audrey Sutton would say, "Eating one meal occasionally won’t make you gain weight. At most, run for an extra half hour when you get home."
So gradually, Shane Warner’s eating habits changed with hers, and he often had sweets now, so a serving of pork chops didn’t seem like a big deal.
Lately, Audrey Sutton’s diet had been light, so when she saw the fragrant fried pork chops come to the table, she was practically drooling.
As she stared at the pork chops, her eyes shining, she suddenly heard a "Bleh—"
Looking up, she saw Phoebe King across from her standing up, covering her mouth and patting Stephen Sutton’s shoulder to clear a path, making a beeline for the restroom.
Stephen Sutton paused for a moment and then quickly got up to follow her.
Watching them walk away, Audrey Sutton muttered, "Could Sister Phoebe be pregnant? These two are fast. How long have they been married?"
Shane Warner glanced at the plate of pork chops and said, "Maybe she’s just nauseated by the sight of this dish."
Audrey Sutton threw him a sideways glance, "You’re the nauseating one! Look at your ribs, golden and crispy—must be delicious!"
A few minutes later, the pair returned from the restroom. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Audrey Sutton quickly asked, "What happened, Sister Phoebe?"
Phoebe King picked up her cup and took a sip of the lime juice, saying, "I have no idea. After the movie when you said you wanted to eat fried pork chops, I was totally on board, but when the plate arrived and I smelled the oil, I just felt queasy."
Being someone who’s been there, Audrey Sutton felt the sensation Phoebe described was very familiar, so she asked, "Did you check at the hospital yet?"
Phoebe King and Stephen Sutton exchanged a glance, both looking puzzled, "Go to the hospital? For what?"
Audrey Sutton: "Pregnancy! I was like that not long ago, feeling queasy at the sight of oil."
Phoebe King froze, then turned to look at Stephen Sutton, who looked a bit stunned, probably recalling when their last baby-making session was.
Audrey Sutton: "The hospital might be closed now, how about having Fifth Brother take your pulse when we get back? He was quite accurate with mine last time."
Stephen Sutton: "Better get checked at the hospital tomorrow. Audrey, what were your early pregnancy symptoms?"
Audrey Sutton: "At first, I just wanted to nap all the time, feeling very sleepy."
Phoebe King nodded eagerly, "Yes, yes, that’s me. I’ve been feeling low energy, I told your big brother, and he just said it was due to the changing seasons, so I didn’t pay much attention."
Audrey Sutton smiled, "Then it seems I’m really going to be an aunt, and if we count the dates, our due dates aren’t far apart. We can stroll our kids together then, with some company."
Phoebe King: "Let’s hurry your second sister-in-law along too. We could form a playing hand—great for being pregnant and staying in to play cards."
At Phoebe King’s words, Shane Warner finally spoke, "Don’t lead Audrey astray."
Phoebe King rolled her eyes, "Oh, please. Did you really think your Audrey is all innocent?"
Shane Warner: "What does she know? She doesn’t smoke, drink, or gamble."
Phoebe King felt guilty as she ticked off all those vices Shane Warner mentioned. She straightened up and said, "Well, I don’t smoke or drink now, alright? Audrey’s been leading me to the good path, not the other way around."
Stephen Sutton: "At least you acknowledge turning over a new leaf."
