Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 487: Canceling the Wedding
Laura Yates walked directly into the kitchen, not even glancing at Franklin Sutton as she passed the entrance.
Franklin paused at the door, then hurried to catch up with Laura’s steps: "... Laura."
Laura, with her back to him, looked at the dishes on the counter and asked him in a cold tone, "What do you want to eat? Should I just heat all of these?"
Franklin didn’t answer her question. Instead, he approached her with a hint of delight in his voice, softly asking, "Laura, are you not angry with me anymore?"
Laura remained silent, continuing to put the dishes from the plates into the microwave, clearly still upset.
Franklin sighed and stepped closer to her again: "Laura, I really know I was wrong. I promise I won’t add any other girls on WhatsApp anymore, okay?"
Laura: "You don’t even know what you’re wrong about."
Franklin: "Isn’t it just because I was chatting with that young girl? I really have no other intentions towards her. Now she’s living with her uncle, and I won’t be involved in her matters anymore. I really won’t have any further contact with her."
Laura closed the microwave door and set the heating time before turning to look at Franklin, her brows slightly furrowed, appearing a bit annoyed: "You still don’t know why I’m angry."
Franklin, a bit exasperated, spoke with a slightly agitated tone: "Then tell me, you always do this, making me guess and wonder. I’m not a worm in your stomach; how should I know why you’re angry?"
Laura: "So it’s my problem?"
Franklin hurriedly said, "I didn’t mean it like that, Laura, I really don’t want the little time we have together wasted on arguing and bickering, I..."
Laura: "Is it me deliberately picking a fight?"
Franklin: "I know I was wrong. Just tell me what will make you stop being upset. I could write you a reflective essay; you decide how many words. Would that work?"
Laura: "What good would that do? Every time you promise something, it sounds so convincing, but a few days later you forget it completely, with no change at all. I don’t believe your words anymore."
Franklin pressed his lips together, unsure of what to say, feeling like whatever he did was wrong. He’d been told that when a girl is angry, she shouldn’t be ignored, but rather comforted, and he’d been trying to comfort her for days with no sign of her calming down.
This situation was tough, neither ignoring nor comforting seemed to work, and he truly didn’t know what else he could do.
"Laura, just heat up a couple of dishes for him. He’s not picky, just needs to fill his stomach."
Hearing Hazel Yates’ voice from outside, Laura’s face immediately wore a smile as she replied to Hazel, "Okay, I’ll heat up one meat dish and one vegetable dish."
After responding to Hazel, she turned back to Franklin, her expression shifting back to one of displeasure as she lowered her voice to say to Franklin, "You wait here yourself; I’m going out."
With that, Laura stepped towards the kitchen’s exit, Franklin quickly followed, grabbing her arm and pulling her to a corner out of sight: "Let’s clear this up today."
Laura found herself cornered, looking up at him and saying, "If it weren’t for your family’s sake, I might really have brought up breaking up."
Franklin frowned: "We’re about to get married, what kind of talk is that?"
Laura: "You behave this way even before marriage, after we’re married you’ll probably feel even more entitled. Actually, the reason I came with you today was to discuss with your parents about canceling the wedding. I think marriage is a lifetime commitment, and it’s a bit rushed to make a decision now. At least I currently can’t accept the way you are."
Franklin’s expression darkened further: "What did you say? Cancel the wedding? It’s one thing to throw a tantrum, but are you really backing out now?"
Laura: "Either you change your behavior, or find someone else who can accept you. Anyway, I think I..."
Laura hadn’t finished her words when Franklin suddenly leaned down to kiss her. The kiss wasn’t long-lasting, and seeing Laura stunned by his sudden action, he pressed her with an unhappy tone: "Want to cancel the wedding?"
Laura glared at him, about to say something, when the microwave emitted a "ding." Seemingly unwilling to entangle in the matter anymore, she shifted the topic: "The food is heated."
Franklin still blocked her from walking away: "I’m asking if you want to cancel the wedding?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Laura paused, took a deep breath, and said, "Actually, I’ve always been unsure if what we had before was love. Your ’love’ is always a few empty promises, ones you forget as soon as you speak them. During our time together, there have been more frustrating moments than happy ones, and I began to question whether the issue was your fault or my sensitivity, or perhaps... we just weren’t meant for each other."
Seeing Laura’s eyes mist as she said these words, Franklin realized it wasn’t just a matter of her throwing a little tantrum; it was more serious.
He knew she was emotionally sensitive. After being told several times, he also began to deliberately try to care for her feelings, but now it seemed that it wasn’t enough.
"The moment you stopped the wedding car and took me away, I truly believed I could spend a lifetime with this man. I stayed with you with that mindset. My hopes and disappointments for you are like an hourglass, initially filled with anticipation and dreams, but later accumulating into disappointment little by little. At first, you made plenty of promises, I kept them in my heart and even started planning our future. But gradually I found that not only did you fail to fulfill those promises, you actively did the opposite, repeatedly. When you speak of those vows now, I habitually ignore them, understanding it was just empty talk. Do you think these changes inside me are my concessions to you? It’s not, it’s hope burned out, it’s utter disheartenment."
Seeing Laura’s eyes reddened, voice choked with emotion as she finished speaking, Franklin felt an aching pain in his heart.
He’d believed that their relationship was improving day by day, not realizing she was already thoroughly disappointed in him.
He’d intended to give her all his love, yet he hadn’t expected to make her endure grievance in this relationship.
"... I’m sorry, Laura, I’ll change, I’ll be better. I promise I’ll turn around the hourglass in your heart."
Laura couldn’t help but interrupt him: "Words are easy to speak; don’t make promises about things you can’t achieve."
