Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 485: Girls Are Considerate
Audrey Sutton smiled with a hint of meaning and said to Shane, "Open it and take a look."
Scott Sutton teased, "Could it be a love letter from our little sister?"
Audrey shot a glare at Scott, "You only know how to make fun of me!"
Slightly curious, Shane slowly unfolded the paper in his hand.
At first glance, he saw some personal information of Audrey on the page, and the name of Central Hospital was written at the top, making it easy to see that it was a hospital examination report.
Shane’s initial reaction was to think Audrey was sick, but after carefully examining it, he could hardly believe the information he read was true. He looked at Audrey’s abdomen in disbelief and asked her incredulously, "Are you pregnant?"
Audrey nodded.
Still skeptical, Shane was afraid Audrey was playing a prank on him, leading to his hopes being dashed: "Really?"
Audrey: "How could this be fake? The examination report is right there in your hand."
Hazel Yates: "Let me see, girl, did you get someone to make a fake report?"
Audrey pointed to Evan Sutton and said, "Fifth brother can testify, why don’t you all believe me?"
Phoebe King chimed in: "I can testify; I accompanied Audrey to the hospital for the examination."
Hazel Yates: "You two... Such a big thing and you didn’t tell us sooner; if you’d told me earlier, I would have made a pot of chicken soup."
As she spoke, Hazel stood up, planning to go to the kitchen and prepare two special dishes for Audrey: "Audrey, what do you want to eat? Mom will make it for you."
Audrey: "Mom, there’s already a big table of dishes, don’t bother, just sit down and eat."
It was only then that Shane slowly accepted the surprise; it was different from what Audrey imagined. He was merely stunned for a moment upon hearing the news, rather than displaying exaggerated joy. He then softly asked Audrey, "How many months?"
Audrey: "Just over a month."
Shane: "And you didn’t tell me earlier when it showed? If I’d known you were pregnant, I would have come back right away."
Upon hearing Shane’s words, Audrey pouted slightly and pretended to be displeased, "So I’m not worth your early return, huh? You’d only come back because of the baby?"
Shane chuckled: "You really do get jealous over everything."
Phoebe: "To be honest, Audrey has been eating sour foods recently. They say sour for boys and spicy for girls, so I think she’s likely to have a big, chubby boy."
Audrey promptly asked Shane, "Do you prefer a boy or a girl?"
Shane: "I like both."
After a brief pause, he added: "A girl would be better."
Audrey: "Why?"
Shane: "Girls are more caring."
Hazel Yates laughed and said: "Your father said the same thing back then. When I was pregnant with the first, he said either gender was fine. After having the eldest, he said he would like a daughter too; a son and a daughter would be best. And after such a brood, we finally had Audrey." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Scott Sutton: "Looks like we were all extras."
Hazel Yates shot him a glare: "Did we treat you badly? You shouldn’t speak lightly. And look, you are all about to be uncles, yet you each say there’s no rush to marry. You used to say that Audrey would be your bridesmaid; now I think her child might be your flower girl instead!"
Previously, the brothers were always being urged by their mom to marry, and now that Audrey is married with a child soon on the way, the brothers can’t escape her urging.
The eldest and second have it better now as they have partners. The main focus for urging to marry now falls on the third and fourth brothers.
The third brother, Franklin, is impervious; he’ll never argue with you but also won’t take your words to heart, as he has his own opinions.
The fourth brother, Evan, is more articulate; after all, he studied law and can always create his own reasoning.
They’re not at an age yet where marriage is urgent, so Hazel merely mentions it in passing, without organizing for them to be set up.
Audrey didn’t have much appetite, casually ate some dishes to fill up, and after Laura Yates had finished eating, the two of them left the dining table and sat on the living room sofa for a chat.
"Laura, what did my second brother do wrong again? Tell me, and I’ll give him a good talking to later."
Laura sighed: "I don’t even want to talk about him anymore; it seems this is just how he is, no matter how he’s admonished he won’t change. If I were to marry him, I’d likely get exasperated to death sooner or later."
Audrey having understood her brother’s character, naturally hoped for the best for Laura and Franklin, continued to say a few good things for Franklin: "My second brother just doesn’t think things through sometimes. In some matters, he lacks the attention to handle details. Truthfully, he probably wants to please you by doing his best, but he doesn’t know how to do it, and eventually ends up angering others instead."
Laura: "I’m starting to doubt if there’s something wrong with me; maybe I’m not understanding him enough, maybe I’m too petty, but I just can’t stand his lying, especially when it’s so effortless without any skill."
Audrey: "What’s the matter exactly?"
Laura: "The day before yesterday, he rarely had some free time, so he bought movie tickets and asked me to watch with him. He bought tickets for a crime thriller, which is his favorite genre. I don’t usually watch those types of movies, but I thought that as long as I can accompany him, I could bear it, so I didn’t say anything."
Audrey: "How could he be like that? Should have asked you what you liked before buying the tickets."
Laura: "I can tolerate this; there are plenty of such things usually. During the movie his phone buzzed a few times in his bag. He’s usually the kind who glances at his phone as soon as he gets a message, so I found it strange, asked him about it, and he stammered that it was a message from you. Doesn’t he know you send messages for him to read right away? I can’t stand this, especially him hiding things from me, and when I know he’s lying, I can’t pretend it’s fine. I took his phone out since I knew the password, unlocked it, and even though I was about to discover who was messaging him, he still tried to deny it."
Audrey anxiously asked, "And then? Who sent the messages?"
Laura: "A woman. I checked the chat records; they’ve been in touch nearly every day. The content isn’t exactly flirtatious, but your brother likely has no feelings for her, whereas she clearly fancies him, bothering him over trivial matters, and your brother consoles her frequently. Isn’t it obvious she’s just a sly girl, and your brother actually feels sorry for her? Thinking about it makes me mad. I don’t know why I put up with this; thinking about spending my whole life with someone like this, I can’t take it."
