Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 229: You Were Never a Match for Me
"Ethan Sterling, you know about The Defiance Society, right? You’ve even gone to watch their members compete."
Miles Harrington picked up the cue again, aiming towards the hole. "That society was founded by Student Shaw."
"Initially, no one expected much from that society, but now each of its members has become exceedingly famous. That Rory has become the youngest champion in a top tech competition, personally received the trophy from my hands. There’s also a female student with the last name Feng, who landed a role in a famous director’s film. Although it’s just a minor part, her acting left everyone amazed, and overnight, the entire nation knew of this budding flower."
Since the founding of nation Z, there hasn’t been such a remarkable organization.
No wonder it’s called The Defiance Society.
"..."
Ethan Sterling gently tapped the armrest of the sofa, not saying a word, as if he hadn’t heard what Miles Harrington said earlier.
"For a group of students with no background to secure a place in our country, it’s indeed impressive. Without Student Shaw, they might never have made a name for themselves."
Miles Harrington continued, "I’m very accurate in judging people, and Student Shaw is sure to achieve great things. Few can match his vision and outlook."
With that, the golf ball flew out, but unfortunately didn’t land in the hole.
Miles Harrington shook his head, but wasn’t too bothered, handing the cue to Ethan Sterling.
Ethan Sterling adjusted his cuffs, stood up elegantly, and took the cue, positioning himself at the tee.
Miles Harrington sat nearby, sipping water to moisten his throat, adjusted his glasses, and remembered something interesting, "I think you two really should meet. In some ways, you’re quite alike." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
His words were confident and decisive.
"..."
Tsk, his woman, if not like him, would she be like Miles Harrington?
Ethan Sterling gently raised the cue, and the ball dropped perfectly into the hole.
He felt a bit bored, turned off the ongoing golf match, and switched the big screen to a golf simulator.
Miles Harrington, accustomed to his silence, continued the conversation, "But then I thought about it carefully again, what if you find Student Shaw admirable, and want to compete with me to win them over?"
Seraphina Redgrave is a rare talent, and if Ethan Sterling were to poach her, he’d have no place to cry.
"Compete?"
After adjusting his posture, Ethan Sterling glanced up and down at Miles Harrington, a faint smile on his face.
Does he even need to compete? She belongs to Ethan Sterling.
Miles Harrington assumed Ethan Sterling was looking down on Seraphina Redgrave, so he explained, "Don’t underestimate the young girl. Aside from her name being a bit unusual, everything about her, be it appearance or capability, is outstanding."
"Whoosh!"
The sound of the golf club slicing through the air.
The screen showed the score from the previous shot: A perfect score.
Watching the score, Ethan Sterling wasn’t surprised, lazily responded, "Are you picking a woman? You’re even considering her looks."
Upon hearing this, Miles Harrington burst into laughter, "I’ve thought about it, but in the end, I gave up. Someone like her should shine brightly in her career rather than getting entangled in matters of romance."
"Thought about it?"
With those words, Ethan Sterling scored another perfect shot.
Though Ethan Sterling wasn’t looking at him, Miles Harrington sensed a fleeting hint of malice on Ethan Sterling’s profile.
"..."
Yet he couldn’t fathom why Ethan Sterling would manifest such an attitude, perhaps it was his imagination, he asked with a bit of concern, "What’s wrong?"
Admiration between the opposite sexes is quite normal, right?
Ethan Sterling lowered his head, gazing at the cue in his hands, lightly running his fingers over it, inexplicably giving off a sinister vibe.
"It’s nothing, just wondering if she would be willing."
After experiencing his goodness, could she even fancy anyone else?
Ethan Sterling was just that confident.
"Am I not good enough?"
Miles Harrington felt his male pride was thoroughly challenged, retorting defiantly, "Then when she graduates, I’ll move her into The Presidential Palace immediately. Let’s see the results then."
"Ding dong—double eagle!" All five balls, Ethan Sterling holed them in one go.
Then he tossed the cue to the ground, his face shadowed with gloom.
Miles Harrington was embarrassed, "With your record, how am I supposed to play the remaining five? May as well concede."
"You were never going to beat me."
Ethan Sterling remarked without even glancing at Miles Harrington.
For some reason, Miles Harrington felt a hint of teeth-gnashing resentment in those words, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly where.
Perhaps he was overthinking.
Subsequently, Miles Harrington decided not to further disgrace himself by continuing the game. Seeing the two take a break, the butler offered towels and freshly brewed tea.
Miles Harrington, while wiping his hands, said, "I’ve praised Student Shaw so much, actually hoping you could help me think about something. I used to think Student Shaw just wanted to climb upwards, but now it seems that’s not the case."
"Why?" Ethan Sterling focused on wiping his hands, seemingly indifferent to the question.
"With Student Shaw’s capabilities, if she chose to develop in other circles, she probably would have established her place long ago, but she didn’t, she joined the closely-knit network of The Law Council. Even though she’s highly regarded now, ultimately, she’s just an assistant."
This question lingered in Miles Harrington’s mind, but he couldn’t figure it out, "Those under her all shine brightly and rise to fame, except her, persistently enduring in The Law Council. Could she be plotting something?"
As a President, Miles Harrington had sensitivities others lacked.
No matter how much he admired this girl, he had to be cautious.
She is intelligent, coming to The Law Council must have a purpose, smart people don’t do things without benefits.
Moreover, her members are making significant strides in various fields, and with further development, they will surely become the backbone of nation Z.
This indicates that Seraphina Redgrave in the future could easily influence the affairs of nation Z, and that’s not a good thing.
"How would I know?" Ethan Sterling scoffed, carelessly tossing the towel he’d used to wipe his hands aside.
"Butler."
The more Miles Harrington analyzed, the more reasonable he found his thoughts, immediately instructed the butler, "Go investigate Student Shaw’s background, everything she’s done at The Law Council, as well as the people around her, leave no stone unturned."
This time, he was serious.
Ethan Sterling pinched his fingertips, though confident in the identity he crafted for Seraphina Redgrave, the opposition was The Presidential Palace, they would uncover some traces regardless.
"Yes." The butler acknowledged the command and respectfully withdrew.
Ethan Sterling tapped the table, his alluring eyes filled with disdain, looked at Miles Harrington, "For a girl in her early twenties, do you have to dig up everything about her, is it necessary?"
Miles Harrington frowned, "But something feels off."
"Student, commoner, with just these identities, what waves could she possibly stir?" Ethan Sterling scoffed.
Ethan Sterling’s words certainly left Miles Harrington conflicted, indeed, it seemed he was being a bit paranoid, "Yeah, what kind of earth-shattering things could a student in her early twenties accomplish? For a girl like her to win my favor, she must be thrilled beyond words."
