Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Gigolo

Did this woman really not understand a word of what he just said?

She’s surrounded by danger right now. To safely make it through tomorrow, she must ask for his help.

Seraphina Redgrave glanced at Ethan Sterling in confusion, then climbed off him: "I still need to do some more planning. Everything needs to go smoothly tomorrow."

The third battle—she must win.

Ethan Sterling sat at the head of the bed, watching Seraphina Redgrave as she stood up. Her hair, which had been wrapped around his fingers, instantly slipped away, leaving his fingertips and chest empty.

Seraphina had just gotten off the bed, intending to get her tablet from the table, when she heard a loud crash.

She turned her head and saw that the phone Ethan Sterling had given her was now smashed on the floor.

Ethan’s expression was terribly grim.

Seraphina looked puzzled: "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing. I was just thinking that since you won’t be alive after tomorrow, you won’t need the phone anymore."

Ethan spat out through gritted teeth.

Thanks for Ethan’s ominous words, really.

Seraphina walked to the bed to pick up the phone. Thankfully, the presidential suite’s carpet was thick enough that the phone wasn’t damaged.

"Come here."

Ethan stared at Seraphina.

"What exactly do you want?"

What on earth did Ethan want? She clearly hadn’t offended him.

"A few more times, and I’m afraid you’ll die tomorrow. I won’t be able to find another woman who fits me so well."

Ethan sat on the bed, looking at Seraphina. Every word felt like a cold blade cutting across Seraphina’s heart.

"I will live well."

Seraphina couldn’t allow herself to die. She hadn’t accomplished what she wanted to do yet; she couldn’t die so soon.

"You will."

Seraphina stood where she was, looking at Ethan. She felt speechless but not angry. She couldn’t understand what Ethan was thinking—whether he wanted her dead or alive.

She sat on the edge of the bed with the phone in hand and spoke: "I will strive to come back alive and complete our bet."

If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t want to live at all!

Ethan glared at Seraphina, waiting for her to soften and ask him for help. But after waiting a long while, Seraphina still didn’t open her mouth.

How annoying!

Ethan cursed internally: "I won’t care whether you survive. If you don’t, I’ll just find another one. I’m tired, anyway."

After saying this, he lay back on the bed, pulled the quilt over him, and said no more. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

One moment he claims she’s rare; the next, he’s talking about finding another.

Seraphina couldn’t comprehend what Ethan was thinking. Indeed, whether she lived or died had nothing to do with Ethan, yet here she was, hoping to come back alive.

She sighed, turned her back to Ethan, and asked, "Do you want to eat?"

"No."

"Alright then."

Seraphina had nothing more to say. She walked straight to her backpack, sat on the sofa, and started tapping away at her tablet.

Alright then?

Just that one sentence?

Ethan lay in bed, his face gaunt, looking like a maze. This damned woman doesn’t even know how to coax someone. Why on earth did he insist on being with her?

She deserves to be troubled tomorrow.

Death would be a relief!

Ethan’s foul mood persisted into the next morning. Even after waking up, he didn’t speak to Seraphina.

Seraphina brought up a couple of topics, but seeing that Ethan had no intention of responding, she also fell silent. She changed into an outfit suitable for going out, tied her hair in a high ponytail, and said: "Your meeting and my competition both start at nine. It’s still early; I’ll get you breakfast."

Ethan didn’t say a word and headed straight into the bathroom.

Soon, the sound of running water could be heard.

He went to shower.

How irritating.

But on further thought, it wouldn’t be so bad if Ethan stayed by her side. Maybe he’d lose interest, and she could leave.

With this in mind, Seraphina walked out the door.

Ronan Yates and Beatrice Fawcett were already awake, sitting in the dining room, each munching on a sandwich.

Ronan was trying to persuade Beatrice not to be nervous.

"Morning, Seraphina,"

Seeing Seraphina come out, Ronan cheerfully greeted her.

"Morning," Seraphina replied, then turned to Beatrice. "Morning."

"Cough cough, morning."

Beatrice choked on her morning reply, her eyes darting around Seraphina before quickly looking away, feeling quite embarrassed.

Seeing this, Seraphina knew Beatrice had probably guessed something.

"What are you afraid of? I told you, with Seraphina around, there’s nothing to worry about."

Ronan still thought Beatrice was anxious about the competition.

"Is there any more breakfast?"

Seraphina asked.

"Yeah, I’ll get it." Ronan stood up to fetch sandwiches for Seraphina from the kitchen.

"I want two, and if it’s not enough, I’ll make some myself."

Seraphina said.

Ronan glanced at Seraphina, his mouth full of sandwich: "Seraphina, you’re eating quite a bit, asking for two more..."

Ronan’s words were cut off by a loud slamming of a door.

The three turned back to see a tall man walking out of a room. He wore a cap and mask, making it impossible to see his face, but his sharp demeanor was evident. His slender, powerful hand gripped a suitcase.

The man didn’t pause or look at them, walking straight through the living room and out the front door.

"Bang!"

The door shut heavily.

It was only then that the three realized what had happened.

"Pfft!"

Ronan couldn’t hold back, spitting out the sandwich in his mouth.

Beatrice silently watched all of this. As she had thought...

Seraphina felt complicated emotions. She always knew Ethan was the jealous type, but she didn’t expect him to act out of jealousy like this.

Going so far as to make the members of The Defiance Society aware of his presence just to embarrass her.

Ronan didn’t even bother wiping the crumbs from his mouth, too shocked to move: "Ser... Seraphina... he, he, he..."

He actually walked out of Seraphina’s room!

And witnessed it all!

It was the first time Seraphina felt so embarrassed. She took a deep breath and calmly said: "I called him..."

For delivery.

"Seraphina called a..."

Ronan was about to break down. Seraphina had never shown any signs of having a boyfriend, but this explains it.

Beatrice didn’t know what to say.

But thinking of the man’s tall figure and long legs—though his face was unseen, his distinct aura was undeniable—Seraphina indeed had a good eye.

It took Ronan a while to calm down, looking complexly at Seraphina. After a long pause, he managed: "Seraphina, even if you kept us in the dark and hired a guy for a fleeting pleasure, I still respect you!"

Though today was the official competition, if either he or Beatrice did something like this, it would be suicidal.

But Seraphina was different; she always acted carefully. Maybe hiring this guy was part of her strategy!

Who just hires a guy for momentary pleasure???

Seraphina was completely speechless, turning to look at Beatrice.

Beatrice sat there, watching Seraphina, and carefully chose her words: "I get it. Adults have normal needs."

Seraphina was utterly speechless.

What did they mean? What did they mean by normal needs?
