Chapter 956: Chapter 956: The Mistake Every Man Makes

The Emerald Courtyard.

After receiving a call from the journalists, Zachary Lancaster trashed everything in the room that could be thrown, leaving it in shambles.

The sharp fragments scattered all over the floor made one’s scalp tingle.

"How can you bungle this so badly?! You can’t even handle such a small matter, yet you take so much of my money?!" Zachary furiously questioned.

"Mr. Carter, how can you blame us? We followed all your instructions to the letter, but we can’t manage Ann Vaughn, can we? Besides, you knew she is The Divine Doctor, and you still sent an elderly person to her for treatment. I think you’re inadvertently giving her a better reputation instead of ruining her!"

The head journalist just couldn’t fathom how many holes someone’s brains could have for them to be so leaky?

Sending a patient to The Divine Doctor is like spoon-feeding someone their meal, what’s the difference??

Zachary froze all over, "What do you mean? Ann Vaughn saved the person?!"

Impossible. There’s no way Ann Vaughn could have such abilities now!

"Yes, and it was right in front of dozens of our cameras!" The head journalist was annoyed too. "Remember to transfer the remaining payment, and let’s not work together in the future. The journalists who blocked Ann Vaughn last time still haven’t been released."

"I took such a big risk doing this for you. If you don’t raise the price to keep quiet, be careful, or I’ll see to it that you and I go down together!"

The head journalist hung up with a curse.

Zachary’s face turned extremely sullen, and he hurled the phone in his hand to the ground with such force it shattered into pieces.

Dammit, that bitch dared to play him!

At this moment, the door was pushed open, and Zane Lancaster walked in from outside, immediately noticing his own phone smashed to bits.

His hands hung by his sides, slowly clenching into fists.

...

Ann Vaughn originally intended to go straight back to the ward, but remembering she hadn’t checked on Reese Lynch for a few days, she made her way to her ward instead.

But there were several soldiers in military uniforms guarding her ward, and as soon as they saw Ann approaching, they immediately looked at her warily. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Could it be she got the wrong room?

Ann was puzzled, just about to leave, when Assistant Tate came out of the room, surprised to see her.

"Miss Vaughn, you’re here! We’ve been trying to contact you these past days, I was worried something happened to you."

"I’ve been sick lately, also recuperating in this hospital." Ann smiled lightly, "How is Reese? Is she well?"

"She’s doing well, but she keeps talking about you every day." Assistant Tate informed the guards and led Ann inside.

Once Ann entered the ward, she understood why there were soldiers guarding it.

Reese’s father had appeared in a national celebration on TV, Ann couldn’t recall his specific position, but anyone who could attend that event wasn’t an ordinary person.

Noticing a stranger coming in, Mr. and Mrs. Lynch immediately looked over, their eyes quietly inspecting and scrutinizing her.

"Miss Vaughn, you’re here!" Reese was overjoyed, "I hadn’t seen you for days, I thought you’d abandoned me."

Though Reese was an only daughter, she wasn’t the least bit spoiled or capricious. She’d been independent from a young age and disliked relying on others.

To hear her speaking in such a reliant manner was quite surprising for Mr. and Mrs. Lynch.

Ann felt a bit embarrassed, "There are so many doctors in the hospital; my presence or absence shouldn’t affect your condition."

Looks like this girl truly sees her as an amulet.

"It’s different," Reese said seriously, "I feel particularly secure when you’re around."

"Right, let me introduce you, this is my dad, Mr. Simon Lynch, and this is my mom, Mrs. Mya Shea." After the introductions, Reese told her parents, "Dad, Mom, this is the savior I mentioned to you, her name is Ann Vaughn."

Ann smiled at Mr. and Mrs. Lynch, "Hello, Uncle and Auntie."

From Reese’s introduction alone, Mr. and Mrs. Lynch could tell how much Reese valued her.

But she also saved their daughter, earning their admiration and respect as well.

In no time, everyone was engaged in pleasant conversation.

Assistant Tate watched in awe; since Chief Lynch and Mrs. Lynch arrived, she hadn’t dared to speak much, fearing she might say the wrong thing.

Yet how did Miss Vaughn so naturally engage them in conversation and laughter?

It was quite simple, actually; no matter what topic Mr. and Mrs. Lynch broached, Ann could chime in, and she responded fluently without the slightest hesitation.

Mr. Lynch held a high position for a long time, and his keen eyes had seen many a façade; he could easily spot anyone trying to put on an act before him.

After conversing with Ann, his opinion of her steadily climbed.

As they were speaking, Mrs. Lynch noticed Mr. Lynch rubbing his back and sighed, "Is it aching again? I told you to drink less; if you’d just listen to me once, you wouldn’t suffer every day."

"What’s that got to do with drinking?" Mr. Lynch said sternly, "The mistake is mine; don’t take it out on the drinks."

Mrs. Lynch nearly exploded with frustration and went out to get the medicine.

Ann glanced at Mr. Lynch’s face but said nothing, rising to take her leave.

Reese wanted to chat with her longer but noticed Ann seemed tired, so she didn’t insist and handed her some local specialty products Mrs. Lynch brought, asking her to take them.

Ann gladly accepted, then left the ward.

Upon exiting, she saw Jude Halloway in a miserable state, kneeling like a dog abandoned by its master at the ward door, startling her.

Seeing Assistant Tate come out too, Ann asked, "What’s he doing?"

"Begging for Miss Lynch’s forgiveness, of course." Assistant Tate sneered in disgust, "Once Uncle Linden arrived, he swiftly managed to finalize Miss Lynch’s divorce from this scumbag. And the scumbag’s mother declared that Miss Lynch should regret it later, as they wouldn’t contribute a dime to raising the child!"

"But they must have heard something about Uncle Linden’s... affairs. Now they regret it and want to reconcile with Miss Lynch, claiming it’s for the child’s sake! Screw that!" she added indignantly.

Hearing Assistant Tate’s words, Jude awkwardly retorted, "What did I do wrong? I just made a mistake all men in the world make! Besides, now I realize it’s wrong, and a man who can admit his mistakes is more able to cherish his wife!"

Ann: "..."

Even if Reese ignores him, Ann finds his words distressing enough.

Living off others and yet managing to act superior.

...

She sneaked back to her room and sighed with relief upon finding it empty.

Good, she hadn’t been caught...

"Where did you just go?" Suddenly, a low, cold voice came from the sofa.

Ann was so startled she shivered, her heart pounding wildly.
