The Sterling matriarch, still rattled, brought Serena Sullivan back to The Sterling Residence. Unlike earlier, she was unusually silent, not saying a word to Serena.

"At your age, you still act so recklessly!"
"Do you dare take Nancy to The Dowager Kane?"
This morning, he had planned to go up the mountain to pray, a trip he usually made with the matriarch. Today, she claimed not to feel well. Who knew, as soon as he left, she’d take Serena from Deepwood to the hospital.
"I thought Nancy had someone run into her."
The matriarch lowered her voice, explaining.
"If Serena had truly run into her, she would have called the police and wouldn’t be lying in the hospital doing nothing!"
