Chapter 267: Chapter 266

Here in the hospital, life, old age, illness, and death—except for birth bringing hope, all else is pain and despair.

Serena Sullivan didn’t like it!

"Where do you want to go?"

Ethan Grant asked from behind.

Serena looked at the corridor ahead, unsure of where to go?

Ethan didn’t ask further and just pushed her towards the end of the corridor. When they reached the corner and Serena saw the elevator, she asked Ethan, "Can we go to the rooftop?"

"Sure!"

Ethan was taken aback for a moment but agreed.

The wind was strong on the rooftop. Worried that Serena might catch a cold, Ethan immediately took off his coat to cover her as soon as they got up there.

But before he could take off his coat, Serena was already maneuvering her wheelchair towards the edge of the rooftop, frightening Ethan so much that he disregarded the coat and quickly strode over to grab the wheelchair.

The wheelchair stopped moving. Serena knew what Ethan was afraid of. Her eyes, dry and reddened, glanced at Ethan, and she smiled.

"There are railings here, I won’t fall off."

"I can’t climb over the railings. If I wanted to die, it’d be quicker to find a car on the road to crash into."

"Serena!"

Ethan didn’t like hearing this and sternly shouted.

Seeing tears start to roll out from Serena’s eyes, he walked over to her side, squatted down, and felt immense heartbreak.

Old Mr. Sullivan was gone. Ethan rather preferred her to cry out like Claire did than watch her hold it in so much.

"If anyone should die, it shouldn’t be you."

He lifted his head and looked at Serena’s pursed lips.

He was the one who should die!

"Remember this, if you decide you want to die, tell me first."

"What for!" Serena asked, amused. The thought of dying had circled in her mind repeatedly for years, but now that she really might not live long, she didn’t want to die anymore.

"So I can kill you first?"

Her eyes reddened, and she gave a bitter smile.

After placing his coat over Serena, Ethan agreed with a hum, "Yes, to die with you!"

Serena was stunned by his serious expression. The sourness in her eyes vanished, and she no longer felt like crying.

"Someone like me deserves to die!"

Ethan said lightly. He hated himself more than anyone else, saw himself as more trash than anyone else did.

Back then, he abandoned Serena, leaving her crippled. Unforgivable.

Even dying a thousand or ten thousand times wouldn’t be enough for someone like him.

"Indeed." Serena agreed with a nod, though Ethan truly had the thought of dying with Serena, being so affirmed by her still sank his heart.

"But, Grandpa asked me to take care of you."

Changing the subject, Ethan mentioned "Old Mr. Sullivan". As soon as he did, Serena felt so discomforted that tears uncontrollably fell, albeit just one or two.

She wouldn’t let herself cry!

"He wanted you to take care of me!"

"Why would he let you take care of me?"

"Before you came back, I often went to play chess with the old man. He thought I was repentant, so he said to leave your future to me."

Ethan said, attempting to sound lighthearted.

After stabilizing The Grant Corporation, he frequently visited The Sullivan Corporation. Initially, the old man wouldn’t speak to him at all and was worn down by his repeated visits and chatter.

The old man once said to him, "You’re more reliable than Serena’s biological father."

However, the old man never fully forgave Ethan.

It’s just that, compared to the man who abandoned Claire Sullivan, he felt Ethan was slightly better.

Whether to be happy or to cry at such a comparison, Ethan didn’t know.

"So, whether you hate me completely or refuse to forgive me, I will stay by your side."

Raising his head, Ethan smiled at Serena.
