Mr. Grant Treats Me Like a Treasure-Chapter 255 - 254: No One But Him Will Do
Serena Sullivan used a spoon to scoop up the bone soup from the bowl. The taste was as she imagined, indeed very delicious. It was evident that Claire Sullivan put a lot of effort and time into making this soup.
Hearing Serena’s praise, Claire’s expression softened a bit, "Serena."
Her culinary skills were already quite good.
She watched Serena as she drank the soup, gently sighed, her voice slow and soft, "Joel Quinn can give me a home, give me what I want, I’m living well."
The Sullivan Corporation was established starting with the old Master Sullivan, but no one knew it was at Claire Sullivan’s request.
Even though she knew she wasn’t cut out for it, she chose business merely to show that person she was better off than him.
"Joel Quinn is someone whose background isn’t great, nor is he particularly educated, but he’s willing to learn and treats me well."
As Claire spoke of this, a smile appeared on her face, though her eyes were dim and lonely, which made Serena a bit puzzled.
Claire was very much in love with Joel Quinn, treating Joel and his daughter like treasures.
Whatever these two wanted, she gave them!
But now, when she mentioned Joel Quinn, Claire’s eyes showed self-mockery, some laughter, some bitterness, yet no hint of affection.
"For the sake of The Sullivan Corporation, I often drank myself into a stupor. After he became my driver, he not only accompanied me, he also ran errands to buy hangover medicine for me and shielded me from drinks at the dinner table."
These things, to Claire Sullivan, seemed like they happened just yesterday.
At first, she didn’t think much of Joel Quinn.
Joel Quinn and her type were two completely different kinds.
What she liked were men, handsome, gentle but indifferent.
"Once I was blocked at the door by a noblewoman and her entourage."
Even as a young mother, Claire was still beautiful and bold, at the dinner table, those men tried every way to take advantage of her.
For the sake of The Sullivan Corporation’s contracts, she endured these sleazy acts.
As time went by, her reputation worsened, and when men of high society mentioned Claire Sullivan, they smirked silently, yet every single one secretly fantasized about this enchantress.
"They said I was seducing her husband."
Claire sneered disdainfully and used her pretty fingernails to tuck away the stray hair from her forehead.
"Who!" This was something Claire never mentioned to Serena.
Claire smiled but did not answer. At the time, there were things she didn’t want her young daughter to know, "If I really wanted to seduce him, she would have been dumped long ago."
"After that, I only got slapped, the rest was Joel Quinn shielding me."
This incident made her find Joel Quinn decent, at least he could give her warmth, could fill her deeply wounded heart.
"Serena, what you just mentioned, I don’t want to hear about it again."
Claire straightened her voice to say, "I don’t believe it."
Serena placed the spoon back in the soup bowl, looked at Claire, and asked,
"In this world, with so many men, must it be him?"
If Joel Quinn was truly as good as Claire said, she wouldn’t interfere.
But obviously, Joel Quinn was a hypocritical and disgusting wolf, such a person was worse than an animal.
Eventually, he would eat away at Claire Sullivan until there was nothing left.
"Yes!"
Claire gave a crisp answer, "Because! He’s more attentive to me than anyone else, and since he doesn’t have a family background, I won’t be wronged, nor will I be forced into a corner."
She finished her words forcefully. The biggest mistake in her life was falling in love with that man, and then giving birth to Serena.
These words pierced Serena’s heart with pain, and she wanted to ask Claire who that man was, and where he was!
