Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 99 - : It Was Him!
Chapter 99 - 99: It Was Him!
The night was quiet, but Enchanteur Bar was alive with energy.
Kate strutted through the crowd, her black mini skirt hugging her curves, stilettos clicking against the floor. Her smokey eye makeup added to her bold look as she moved to the private lounge Jerry had reserved.
Room 2808. Second floor.
Just as she reached for the door, a familiar voice from inside made her pause.
"You broke the bro code by sleeping with my woman, Sam. When Kate gets here, you better apologize or we're done."
"Do you really believe what that woman said, Jer? She showed up at my place, trying to seduce me. Now she's just lashing out because she can't be Mrs. Morgan. You should think twice before getting involved with someone like her."
Sam braced himself as he tried to warn his friend.
That party making headlines the other day had been a nightmare.
He had no one to blame but himself for not keeping things under control. Because of that, Kate had gotten her way.
Otherwise, by now, he would have chosen a proper marriage partner instead of dealing with his mother's endless nagging.
And as if things weren't bad enough, Jerry was actually siding with Kate.
"What are you talking about? You manipulated Kate. Who would choose you over me?"
Jerry wasn't about to let Sam badmouth Kate.
Outside the door, Kate's heart pounded heavily as she listened to their conversation.
What a small world. Was Sam an idiot? Why was he even here?
Luckily, Jerry didn't seem to believe him. If he had, it would have been game over for her.
Damn it!
"Jer, I really—"
Kate was about to compose herself and walked inside when Jerry's voice cut through the air.
"That's enough. You'll get your turn once I'm bored with her."
The words hit her like a slap. The sound of her pride shattering echoed in her ears.
That bastard, Jerry!
Kate's anger flared up.
How could a man be so shameless?
Her fingers tightened on the doorknob before she let go and was ready to leave.
But then, she thought of Chantelle.
Gritting her teeth, she decided to pretend she hadn't heard a thing and stepped inside.
The moment she entered, the room erupted with teasing cheers.
If Jerry wasn't going to respect her, then Kate had no reason not to drain him dry before tossing him aside.
Not far away, a man in golden-framed glasses sat in a fancy, semi-circle booth. He watched as Kate hesitated, then stepped into the room. A wicked smile curved along his sharp jawline.
He looked like the devil himself.
As Kate disappeared into the private lounge, the man pushed himself up with his cane. He adjusted his glasses and walked out of the bar.
A black Rolls-Royce was already waiting in the alley outside.
"Sir, Mr. Jeffords has signed the papers."
Fred, the assistant, went up to the man, holding his suit jacket before opening the door to the Rolls-Royce.
"Oh? The old man finally gave in?"
"He had no choice. His only son is in our hands." Fred answered calmly with a blank expression.
"Good. I've been away from Easthan long enough."
Joseph spun the ring on his finger and his brown eyes were cold.
"Do you think my cousin will like the gift I've prepared for him?"
"Mr. Daniel has made a name in the business world over the years but not in a good way. Ordinary gifts won't cut it. Still, I'm sure your gift will catch him off guard."
"Not in a good way, huh? Then it's time for someone else to bring his reign to an end."

Chantelle ended her call with Thea, got up, and drove off.
Half an hour later, she arrived at a warehouse on the outskirts.
Inside, a man was tied to a chair under a harsh spotlight. His head hung down, motionless, and showed no signs of life.
Several round ceramic chips were attached to the man's head, connected to airwave sensors.
Behind the testing equipment, Calvin focused on recording the data.
The sound of footsteps made him turn his head.
Chantelle walked in, dressed in a white athletic outfit. She looked energetic and full of life.
She looked every bit like a radiant and confident young woman.
Calvin's eyes lit up. It took him a moment to pull his eyes away. Feeling flustered, he quickly lowered his head.
"Ms. Bently."
"What's the progress?" Chantelle asked as her attention stayed on the man in the chair.
She didn't notice Calvin's embarrassment. Her mind was on the assassin too.
After all, he hadn't just tried to kill her once or twice—he had come for her multiple times.
"The Lone Wolf group is definitely made up of professionals, but luckily, we have the latest technology. I managed to get the name of the person who paid him while he was under hypnosis, but..."
"Is there something wrong with the name?" Chantelle noticed the hesitation on Calvin's face.
"It's Joseph Wilson."
Her heart sank.
So... it was him.
Wasn't he supposed to be dead three years ago?
Chantelle felt a mix of confusion and fear.
Joseph Wilson was the source of her fear.
"Are you alright, Ms. Bently?"
"I'm fine. Find out everything. If Joseph is still alive, we're in serious trouble."
Her expression darkened as she lamented.
"I'll look into it. If Joseph is really back in Easthan, should we leave immediately? He's not someone we can take lightly."
"Yes. Once we confirm the truth, we need to leave quickly." Chantelle wasted no time and made a call.
The memories resurfaced as Chantelle stared at the bound assassin. A familiar fear crept in, reminding her of the past she wanted to forget.
If Joseph had returned, the assassination attempts were likely just the beginning.
She couldn't afford to sit back and do nothing.
"Okay, Ms. Bently. Another thing, our investigation shows that Felix's granddaughter has been living abroad. She just returned... for Felix's funeral."
"What? Felix's funeral?! He's dead?!"

The news hit Chantelle like a ton of bricks.
Felix was the only one who knew the truth. How could he be gone?
She turned to Calvin in shock and her eyes turned red.
"Take it easy, Ms. Bently." Seeing her distress, Calvin tossed his notebook aside and handed her a bottle of water.
Chantelle took a few deep gulps, letting the cool water wash away some of her panics.
Her mind finally was cleared.
"What do we do now, Calvin? Felix was the only one who knew the truth, and now he's gone."
