Chapter 77 - 77: You’re Alive!?

"What did you say? The man that night was Jerry? That chubby idiot?!" Kate's voice trembled in disbelief.

The video hadn't captured the man's face, but his body was noticeably broader than Daniel's. That alone proved it wasn't him.

Kate covered her ears and screamed. She had done everything to be with Daniel, yet in the end, someone else had ruined her.

"Why? Why was Jerry there? He even... Why?!"

Roman, focused only on protecting his reputation, ignored her cries. Instead, he turned to Ruby.

Seeing the threat in Roman's eyes, Ruby instinctively stepped back.

When Kate reached for her, she quickly shoved her hand away.

Then, in a cold and distant voice, she said, "Kate, your dad is right. You should do as he says."

Kate trembled as she stood up. Without another word, she rushed into her room.

An hour later, the news of Kate's suicide attempt spread across the internet.

Comments flooded instantly.

"Why did the charitable Black Widow slit her wrist?!"

"Kate Bently, the Black Widow, hits rock bottom after being abandoned!"

Earlier, reports about Mr. Wilson abandoning Kate had been suppressed. But now, news of her suicide attempt sent Facebook into a frenzy.

It quickly became one of the top three trending topics, and its popularity remained high.

Meanwhile, Kate lay in a hospital bed and her wrist was wrapped in layers of bandages.

In reality, the cut was shallow and no single nerve had been damaged.

Kate didn't plan her suicide attempt just to clear her name.

Roman glanced at his daughter lying motionless on the hospital bed, pretending to be dead.

Without wasting time, he took the surveillance footage released by the Wilson family and went straight to Jerry.

"Mr. Lowe, what happened that night was a misunderstanding. Kate mistook you for Daniel. When she found out the truth, she was so ashamed that she couldn't face you. That's why she attempted suicide. She's still unconscious in the hospital!"

Roman played the video repeatedly in front of Jerry, spinning an elaborate lie. He made it seem as if Kate had tried to end her life because of Jerry.

"Is that true?" Jerry had already seen the video online.

Now, hearing that Kate had supposedly risked her life over him, he narrowed his eyes in confusion and surprise.

Although Kate had a terrible personality, she was beautiful, and her skills in bed weren't bad.

Rich kids like Jerry, who lacked both brains and looks, were the type to fall for women like her.

"It's absolutely true! If you don't believe me, go see for yourself. Kate is still in the hospital!" Roman pushed his act further, sensing an opportunity.

Jerry, easily swayed by Roman's performance, quickly took the bait. "Tell Kate I've forgiven her and that she should focus on recovering. I'll take good care of her from now on."

Roman felt excited. Seeing that Jerry had fallen for his story, he kept pushing, hoping to secure financial support for the Bently family.

Meanwhile, Ruby wasn't just sitting around. She sat beside Kate's hospital bed, peeling an apple while planting ideas in her head.

"The Lowe family has a strong reputation in Easthan. Don't be stubborn. Jerry's an idiot. As long as you keep him happy, you'll have everything you want."

Kate was taken aback by her mother's words. Her lifeless eyes suddenly brightened.

She had done everything to marry Daniel for the status of being the Wilson family's Young Mistress.

The Lowe family wasn't as powerful as the Wilsons, but they were still far better than the struggling Bently Corporation.

Slowly, she started to realize her situation. In the end, she nodded. "Mmhm, I'll do as you say."

Ruby was happy after hearing Kate's approval. She dropped the apple she had been peeling and rushed off to tell Roman.

After a quick discussion, they immediately decided to arrange a marriage with the Lowe family.

Meanwhile, Chantelle had finally managed to escape from Daniel. She had left in such a hurry that she hadn't even taken Kane with her.

All she wanted was some peace and time to erase the memory of Daniel's disgusting actions.

But before she could even reach home, a Facebook notification popped up on her phone.

"Heh, suicide? She sure knows how to put on a show." Chantelle scoffed, doubting that Kate would ever go that far.

She was about to leave a mocking comment when she noticed people discussing Kate and Jerry's engagement.

They were even saying the two would be getting married soon.

Curious, she scrolled through the page and found news about their engagement.

It wasn't trending yet, but the details seemed solid, making it hard to dismiss as a rumor.

Someone had even posted proof that the man in the video with Kate was Jerry. Chantelle quickly realized Kate's real motive. She wasn't trying to end her life but she was securing a new target.

"Clever move," she muttered before turning to Calvin, who had come to pick her up. "Change of plans. Let's head back to the hospital and congratulate Kate on her new catch."

"Yes, Ms. Chantelle."

They arrived at the hospital ward shortly after.

Chantelle walked in, carrying a bouquet of white daisies. They were her favorite flowers, but she knew Kate hated them.

"Congratulations, your lifelong dream is finally coming true. The Lowe family may not be as powerful as the Wilsons, but they're still wealthy." She set the flowers down beside Kate, her voice dripping with mockery and her eyes remained cold.

"Lifelong dream? What are you talking about?" Kate frowned.

She had once said she wanted to marry into a rich family, but only one person had been there to hear it—Chantelle.

How did she know about it?

"What's with these flowers? Are you trying to annoy me on purpose?" Kate glared at the pale white daisies. She hated them the most.

Wait... Chantelle knows I despise white daisies!

Her eyes widened in shock. "You're Chantelle? You're alive?!"

Kate panicked and her emotions shot up frantically. She thrashed around, knocking things over in the room.

Chantelle watched her with a cold stare, waiting for the chaos to settle.

Then, she finally asked. "Kate, you know who really hurt Grandpa, don't you?"

She moved toward Kate slowly and her eyes turned cold. She was bubbling with anger and hatred.
