Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 46 - : It Wasn’t A Dream
Chapter 46 - 46: It Wasn’t A Dream
Chantelle's mind was filled with questions. She even wondered if she was dreaming.
It had to be a dream. How else could Daniel, the man who once wanted her dead, hold her hand so gently and not let go, even in his sleep?
Lost in thought, she drifted back to sleep.
When she woke up again, she was back at Western Hill Villa.
Calvin sat nearby, looking worried. His eyes were bloodshot, and it was clear he hadn't slept all night.
Russell's hair was a mess, and dark circles shadowed his eyes.
Anyone unaware might think something terrible had happened between them last night.
"What's wrong with you two?"
Chantelle sat up, noticing their intense stares.
"When did you get back, Ms. Chantelle?"
"Yeah, boss. What's going on here?"
"Huh? What do you mean?" Chantelle looked confused.
"Ms. Chantelle, I went out shopping last night. When I got back, you were gone. I searched the entire house, but you were nowhere to be found! We put together a search team, but we found nothing—not a single clue about where you went. Then, when we returned, you were just lying on the sofa in the living room... like you had never left!"
Calvin's expression was filled with doubt. If Russell hadn't been there to confirm her disappearance, he would have thought the whole thing was just his hallucinations.
"You're saying I was taken last night and brought back today?"
That sounded ridiculous, but she had no memory of it.
Even if she had disappeared, she hadn't left on her own.
Wait a minute... taken away...

She suddenly recalled the vivid dream she had that morning!
Could Daniel have been the one who took her?
Chantelle was stunned by the thought. She remained confused no matter how much she tried to think about it.
As she kept thinking, an idea came to her—a way to prove if her dream was real.
"Russell, come here and check my wound."
"Is it hurting, boss? Let me see!" Russell tensed up, and his instincts as a doctor kicked in as he hurried over.
"You bandaged it yesterday. Look now—is it different?"
Chantelle stretched out her arm, pointing to the spot Russell needed to check.
Medical skills followed the same principles, but every doctor had their own technique.
Even a simple bandage had unique details.
If she had been taken without realizing it, there had to be something wrong with her body.
The most likely reason was an infected wound, which could have caused a fever and made her lose consciousness.
Chantelle vaguely remembered where she had woken up that morning. It looked like a laboratory.
Daniel didn't know medicine, so he couldn't have treated her.
If someone had taken care of her wounds, it was probably his eccentric doctor friend—the one obsessed with experiments.
While she was lost in thought, Russell had already removed the gauze from her arm.
"Boss, someone re-treated your wound. They used M-TE, the most advanced trauma medicine in development worldwide. I ordered this from headquarters yesterday, but it hasn't arrived yet. Also... when I unwrapped the bandage, a small bow was tied on it. I didn't do that yesterday."
Russell felt nervous as he uncovered the bow. He had worried someone had tampered with her wound. But after a careful check, he felt relieved.
Russell had doubts, so he brought them up with Chantelle.
"Boss, this wound looked infected before, but now it's healing fast, thanks to advanced medicine. Did you, by any chance, meet an Asclepius last night? You know, the kind who heals people and vanishes without a trace?"
Chantelle grew even more confused after hearing his analysis.
If that was true, then she really had been taken. Someone had treated her wound.
It wasn't a dream. She had actually woken up in a lab this morning.
That meant Daniel had broken into the villa and saved her last night!
How strange. Really strange.
Daniel never interfered in other people's business, yet he had saved her more than once.
She was the one who had hurt the person he cared about. She had pushed Kate off the altar.
He should want her dead instead of saving her life.
"What's wrong, Ms. Chantelle?" Calvin asked when he saw her deep in thought.
"I'm not sure yet. Did the villa's surveillance capture anything?"
"Someone deliberately altered the footage. They didn't want us to find you." Calvin's expression grew even darker.
He tried to recover the data, but extra security measures had been added. For now, he couldn't fix it.
"Give me the video. You should all go rest. I'm fine."
"How about letting Russell do a full check-up, Ms. Chantelle?"
"Yes, boss. I agree with Calvin's suggestion this time," Russell added.
"No need. You both should rest. I have things to do this afternoon. I'm going to sleep a little longer," Chantelle said, covering her mouth as she yawned.
Before they could argue, she stood up and headed upstairs.
In her room, she unlocked her phone. There was a message from Kane.
Kane texted: "Mommy, I didn't know I was allergic to ginger! It's so weird!"
Another message popped up: "Mommy! Mommy! Why aren't you paying attention to your precious son? That big scumbag must have caught you!"
Right after the two messages, he sent a selfie, looking both worried and upset.
Chantelle changed into fresh clothes and lay on the chaise lounge, reading the messages one by one.
She swallowed the lump in her throat when she noticed the little brat using emojis to express himself.
Her son's intelligence was far beyond that of ordinary children.
She tapped her phone and quickly typed a reply.
"Of course, I care about my precious son. I accidentally dozed off just now. Are you still feeling sick?"
Kane responded in seconds.
"No, that pesky doctor is actually pretty good. He cured me right away. I feel great now! I even ate several small egg tarts made by Mr. Charles all at once."
Chantelle replied: "Eat less of it. Be careful of tooth decay."
Kane replied: "I read it, but I don't know what to say. How about changing the subject, Mommy?"
Chantelle responded with a simple: "..."
Kane quickly sent another message. "Oh, right! Mommy, that big scumbag didn't come back last night. Do you think he went to bother you again?"
Chantelle froze.
