Chapter 15 - 15: What A Vixen

Daniel's expression darkened as he listened to her words.

He hadn't expected her to be so sharp-tongued!

How dare you question me?!

In a flash, he grabbed her by the waist, ready to unleash his anger, but Chantelle pressed her hand against his lips. "You don't know how to treat a woman, do you, Mr. Wilson? Shouldn't you be the one compensating me?!"

Daniel's anger flared up.

Annoyed, he pulled away from her as if she were a plague.

How dare she try to seduce me again?!

What a vixen!

Could this woman be doing all this to lure me in? Was that her goal?

"I'm warning you. Stop being delusional. I'm not interested in you!"

Chantelle knew how much he hated being touched by women who weren't Kate.

She wanted to provoke him, make him disgusted enough to leave her alone.

The air in the living room grew cold in an instant.

Chantelle was thinking of more ways to push him away when suddenly, an odd song began to play.

"Baby is calling for Papa. Pick up! I'm your cutest baby!"

Daniel heard the ringtone coming from his pocket and reached for his vibrating phone.

It was his ringtone!

He stared at the phone in silence with an unreadable expression.

It was Railer.

Ever since he'd been found, he'd become much livelier. But this ringtone...

"Hahaha!" Chantelle couldn't hold back her laughter.

"Your ringtone is pretty original, Mr. Wilson!" Chantelle laughed uncontrollably, giving him a thumbs-up.

That thumbs-up was really meant for her son, Kane.

Well done, brat!

Daniel shot her a dark look before turning away to answer the call.

"It's raining, Daddy. I'm scared. Please come home."

Daniel wanted to refuse, but in the end, his concern for his son won out. He quickly disappeared into the pouring rain with his men.

Chantelle watched Daniel leave and finally felt relaxed.

She let out a long sigh of relief and was about to head upstairs to change when she noticed a small figure outside her French window.

Startled, she rushed over and opened the window.

Sure enough, Kane stood there wearing his school bag and a small raincoat. He was in an awkward position, trying to pick up at the door and break the lock.

"Hey, Mommy!"

Kane was caught. He fumbled with the buttons of his raincoat, grinning up at Chantelle.

He had planned to visit his mother while in the area, but he didn't expect to be caught so quickly. He realized he had made a mistake by not adding an invisibility function to his coat.

"What are you doing out here in the storm, Kane?"

Chantelle scooped him up into her arms.

Chantelle was relieved to see that no strand of Kane's hair was wet.

She went directly to the kitchen and heated some milk for him.

"I followed the scumbag here! How about it, Mommy? Wasn't my heroic call timely?"

"Yes, it was. I expected nothing less from my son! But you said you followed Daniel here. How did you know where he'd be?"

Chantelle sat beside her son, gently grooming his soft hair.

Kane's hair was so fluffy and smooth!

"Um..."

"Kane, I gave you a tracker. Did you plant it on Daniel?"

"Hehe, you really are the smartest mom in the world!" Kane grinned, trying to flatter her while sipping his chocolate milk.

"Give me your phone. Now!"

Chantelle's expression turned serious. She grabbed his phone and cut off the signal to the tracker.

Her nimble fingers typed a series of codes until the red button on the tracker beeped, signaling it had restarted.

She stopped once it was done.

"Are you worried they'll counterattack me, Mom?"

"You're not completely stupid," she replied. "The counterattack is one thing. What's more concerning is that they might track the traces you leave behind. Think about it. What would happen if Daniel finds both you and his precious son, Railer, staying together in my location?"

"I'll be exposed! You're a genius, Mom! But it looks like you connected the tracker somewhere else. Who did you aim for?"

Kane looked at his mother with admiration.

Chantelle couldn't help but flinch when she saw his excited expression.

"You're impossible! Now that you're back, I'll have a helicopter take you home first thing in the morning. Get some rest tonight..."

Chantelle tried to grab him as she spoke.

But of course, Kane dodged her swiftly. "No way! I haven't given that scumbag a hard time yet! I'm not leaving! I'm staying to fight with you, Mom!"

Kane ran in circles around the couch, still trying to bargain.

"You'll be doing me a huge favor if Daniel doesn't find you!" Chantelle kept chasing him, frustrated.

How can this brat be so hard to catch?!

Kane watched as his mother kept pursuing him, determined not to give up.

Realizing he had no choice, he finally stopped and let himself be caught.

"You're too impulsive, Mom! You must have a lot to do here. If the scumbag finds out his precious child is missing, he'll definitely come after you again."

"It'll affect your career. Even if you don't care about yourself, think about my little brother, still in the hospital! I promise he won't find out until Railer gets better!"

The brat clung to her tightly. Chantelle tried to pick him up, but he stayed stuck like a limpet, making it impossible for her to move.

His words made a lot of sense.

Right now, Daniel had no idea she had taken his son. He'd only come after her because something felt wrong. If he found out, it would mess up her whole plan.

It was a tough situation.

"I'm right, aren't I, Mom?" Kane looked up at Chantelle, clearly noticing her hesitation.

I'm such a genius! Kane thought in silence.

"Okay, you can stay a few more days. But be good and take care of yourself. Do you hear me?"

"Okay! I promise I won't be a burden, Mommy! Uh, do you have a way to send me back before scumbag Dad gets home?"

****

Daniel's vehicle traveled through the heavy rain. The downpour made it hard to see the road, so they were driving carefully.

Raindrops hit the window nonstop, and everyone in the car sat in silence, lost in their own thoughts.

It had been a long time since Easthan had seen such heavy rain. The last time was five years ago, during that thunderstorm...

Daniel's mood turned sour.

Beep! Beep!

The faint sound startled everyone in the quiet car.
