Chapter 101 - 101: Are You Drunk?

"What?! Transaction filled!!?" Kate gritted her teeth as she blinked her eyes several times, thinking that she might be mistaken.

"Insufficient balance? That's impossible."

Kate quickly went to the balance page and saw the amount—28 cents.

She felt furious as she stared at the number.

Was Jerry messing with her?

"Get up, Jerry. I said, get up!"

Kate shook him, demanding an explanation.

Jerry was fast asleep, clearly irritated by the disturbance. He swiftly slapped Kate. "Get lost! Don't wake me up!"

Kate was pissed off. She searched through Jerry's phone, hoping to find other bank accounts, but all he had was a credit card. He was broke.

Kate figured she'd probably have to pay for the designated driver too.

Frustrated, she threw the phone at him and stormed off.

It was cold in Easthan. After walking a few steps, Kate began shivering in her thin clothes.

As she debated whether to go back, a silver van stopped in front of her.

Before she could yell at the driver, two men jumped out and dragged her into the van.

"Who are you? Let go!"

Kate was stunned, but before she could ask anything more, a drugged handkerchief was pressed to her face. Within moments, she lost consciousness.

When Chantelle and Calvin arrived at Kate's location, they saw her being taken away. They wanted to talk to Kate, but their plan would have to wait.

"Ms. Chantelle, there aren't many of them. I'm confident I can save Kate. Should I go after them?"

"No. Find out who they are first. Kate has many enemies. Just keep an eye on her and make sure they don't kill her."

"Yes, Ms. Chantelle," Calvin replied, quickly making a call to pass down Chantelle's orders.

Chantelle looked out the car window and saw someone selling cotton candy. If she couldn't catch up to Kate, she thought buying some cotton candy for Rai and Kane would be a nice idea.

She signaled Calvin and got out of the car.

After paying for the cotton candy, someone quickly snatched one away. As she wondered why someone would steal cotton candy, she turned around and saw Daniel. He was already taking a bite of the cotton candy he had grabbed from her.

"Daniel?"

"Hello, Ms. Chantelle!" Daniel smiled at her.

Chantelle felt disgusted as she looked at him.

"Are you drunk?" Chantelle asked, noticing his flushed face and wondering if something was wrong with him.

Worried that Daniel might have a fever, she instinctively touched his forehead.

Thankfully, he was just drunk.

Chantelle wondered why Daniel was alone and where Ashton was. She even looked around for him.

The drunk Daniel was surprisingly obedient. He let Chantelle touch his forehead and held her hand, without letting go, like a child. His actions reminded her of Kane, who did the same when he was worried about her health at home.

But Kane was only five, and Daniel was almost thirty.

"Ms. Chantelle, I'm feeling a little sleepy. Can you take me back home?"

Chantelle looked at the cotton candy in her hand and regretted stepping out of the car.

But she couldn't just leave Daniel. She had no choice but to help him into the car.

She placed him in the backseat and then returned to the passenger seat.

She began scrolling through her contacts, hoping to find Ashton's number, but it wasn't there.

In the end, she called Philip, but no one answered.

"Ms. Chantelle, it's late. Why don't we take Mr. Wilson back to Western Hill Villa for now?"

"There's no choice." Chantelle sighed and turned to look at Daniel.

Daniel was eating the cotton candy.

When he noticed Chantelle looking at him, he gave her a shy and embarrassed smile.

Daniel looked even more attractive when he smiled.

But he usually wore a frown whenever Chantelle was around. He was always cold and arrogant, and no one dared to offend him.

Chantelle couldn't help but think he looked pretty cute like this.

Chantelle wondered if Daniel would feel embarrassed if he realized how childish he acted when drunk.

Curious, she recorded a video of him. She smiled when she saw how cute he looked in the video.

They arrived at Western Hill Villa.

After getting out of the car, Daniel finished his cotton candy and stared at the one in Chantelle's hand.

Feeling sorry for him, she comforted him. "It's too late now. You shouldn't eat too many sweets. We'll save this for tomorrow, okay?"

Daniel pouted like a child, and for a moment, Chantelle almost felt like she had another son.

He sat on the sofa, unhappy, and ignored her.

Chantelle smiled softly as she went to warm up two glasses of chocolate milk. She sat beside him and handed him a glass.

"You can't have any more cotton candy, but you can enjoy some chocolate milk. Cheers!"

She focused on gently coaxing him, trying to make him feel better.

Daniel took the glass and drank happily.

Seeing his mood improve, Chantelle felt relieved.

"You're injured. Why did you drink so much? Why can't you take better care of yourself?"

Daniel kept drinking his chocolate milk without responding.

"Oh, how's your wound? Can you show me?"

Daniel nodded obediently.

"Good boy!" Chantelle said while patting his head. It didn't feel as soft as Kane's hair; his was rough.

With Daniel's approval, Chantelle carefully removed his shirt to check his wounds.

She sighed in relief when she saw that the wounds were still closed and showed no signs of infection.

After he finished his milk, Chantelle placed Daniel on the sofa in her bedroom.

Chantelle had planned for Daniel to sleep downstairs, but she was worried he might wake up in the night and wander around. So, she decided to let him stay in her room for the night.

Ten minutes later, Chantelle set up a sofa bed for him and got him to lie down. She then went to wash up.

Suddenly, Daniel's phone lit up in his pocket.

It was a message from Philip: "Daniel, how's the progress? Did Chantelle fall for it?"

Daniel quickly replied, "Everything is working well."

"It worked? Chantelle is smart. How did she fall for it so easily? You only had two glasses of juice. You don't even smell like alcohol, and she believed you were drunk? This is unbelievable! How did you do it? Tell me!"

"I'm going to sleep. Don't disturb me."

"Hey! Daniel, you can't do this to me. I gave you the idea. I can't sleep if you don't tell me."

Philip sent the message, but there was no blue tick.

Instead, he saw a clear message, "This number is not in your contacts. Do you want to add it to your contacts?" Daniel had blocked him.

Philip muttered to himself, "Damn you, Daniel!"
