Most Powerful Entity in Academy-Chapter 64: Investigastion 2
"Nihilism stands at the door: whence comes this uncanniest of all guests?"
Raul POV.
Currently, Professor Cain and I are sitting in front of the computer, watching the security footage.
"Cain, why did no one notice the person sitting next to Professor Kynar?" I asked while watching the footage.
That is, when we spoke to the witnesses, there was no such information.
Cain leaned back in his chair. "It has to be some kind of spell, but even then, the bartender should’ve noticed."
"Hmm... Kynar looks completely aware, so he knows this person. But being that relaxed while drinking with someone whose face is completely hidden isn’t normal, is it?"
The scene was very simple.
Kynar and a cloaked figure whose identity was unknown entered together.
They sat at the bar. Kynar ordered alcohol for himself and was talking to the figure.
Then the figure took a bottle of alcohol, and they went up to the terrace together.
No one stopped them.
"This scene is really weird. The sounds are too mixed up; it’s hard to separate them. I wish we didn’t have to do this," Cain said.
He looked pissed because the bar was crowded and separating the sounds was difficult.
I sighed.
This is pretty simple for me; I heard every word they said.
For people like me, this is easy.
But I couldn’t hear the cloaked figure’s voice very well.
That means she can be some kind of god.
I need to prove it to Cain.
"Cain, I can hear Kynar’s voice, but I couldn’t hear the cloaked figure’s. If you allow me, I’ll cast a spell." Aether was swirling in my hand.
Cain waved his hand. "Go ahead."
Then I clapped my hands.
Cain and I vanished from the room.
Cain fell to the floor.
"AH, damn it! Where the hell are we?"
"Professor, I cast an illusion spell. It contains everything that happened in the place recorded on that camera."
Cain stood up and touched Kynar, but his hand passed right through.
Oh man, he looked very sad.
The cloaked figure looked, but it had no face. "What does this mean, Raul? Why does this person have no face?"
The same question was in my head, but with that, I can confirm she is either a divine being or something close to it.
"Professor, I’m not sure either," I said, and the illusion world started moving.
Kynar slammed his hand on the table. "Fuck, why doesn’t anything go the way I want?"
A distorted voice came. "You brought this on yourself."
Kynar was showing signs of alcohol withdrawal...
He really hadn’t touched it in a long time, and his hands were shaking as he held the alcohol the bartender brought. "I just wanted to be happy. I dedicated my life to God," Kynar said and bowed his head.
The former inquisitor was completely broken.
"Yes, but what does that have to do with what happened to you?"
"What do you know!" Kynar said and took a sip of his vodka.
The figure leaned in. "I know you killed an innocent girl, Kynar."
Kynar’s eyes widened, and he bowed his head. "Yes, but what could I do? How could I have known?"
"You knew, Kynar. You knew that girl was innocent. When she threw herself off the roof, why didn’t you catch her?" the figure said.
Kynar stood up as if to shout. "YOU..." He couldn’t speak; his mouth was shut.
The figure looked straight at where I was standing.
"We’re being watched, Kynar. Shut your mouth."
"Ah, whatever, when are you going to help me..." Kynar said.
The figure laughed. "Oh, Kynar, stupid Kynar! Do you think what you did can be changed? Even if I brought that girl back to life, what would change? You’re an empty man, a camel who realized the emptiness behind his life but couldn’t rebel. Poor man, you know what you have to do, but you don’t have the courage."
"You’re right... I don’t have the courage."
Kynar gave up way too quickly.
That’s proof the figure is powerful.
Cain’s eyes widened too. "Did he just look directly at you, Raul?"
"Yes, Cain. This person might be an expert in time magic."
"Could it be the Entity?"
"The Entity’s style isn’t like this," I said.
Damn, Professor Cain is perfect at trying to pin the blame on me.
If this were me, I would do a better job than this figure.
The figure stood up and hid the alcohol bottle.
"Now let’s go, Kynar. It’s better to talk on the roof."
This bastard...
Not everyone might understand the metaphor the figure used, but I do.
In nihilism, there are three transformations of the human spirit.
The first stage is the camel, because camels are people with a slave mentality who submit to their fate.
The second stage is the lion, because it’s rebellion.
The camel can turn into a lion, but to do that, it has to throw off the burdens on its back.
It’s a name given to those who walk their own path.
The last and most important stage is childhood.
People ask themselves, "How can a lion be lower than a child?"
But the real thing is that if there’s something more beautiful than the lion’s independence, it’s the child’s enthusiasm for life.
I explained everything to Professor Cain because the illusion world ended.
"This person is taking away Kynar’s will to live and making it seem like he’s solving his worries and making a route so that he commits suicide."
"Yes, but that was easy and very dramatic," Cain said.
I sighed. "Professor Kynar has gone through one of the worst periods of his life. Did you notice the alcohol withdrawal? The alcohol bottle the figure hid is probably the same as the mark on his lip. Also, the figure is a master of manipulation and is hitting Kynar’s weakest points."
Cain put his hand to his chin. "Now that I think about it, Professor Kynar was married but divorced the woman he loved. He was in severe depression before Director Stella found him..."
"Hmm, that means the girl the figure mentioned who committed suicide probably did it because of something Kynar did. Kynar probably couldn’t digest it and isolated himself. His alcoholism might have started from there..." I said, because this is the most logical theory, and we still need to talk to Saintess Maria.
Cain nodded. "You’re right, but I feel sorry for Kynar. I asked him so many times to open up to me..."
"If people’s problems were solved that easily, humans would just create another problem, because humans can’t live without problems."
Cain asked me more questions, and we exchanged ideas.
I have a big reason to go back in time and beat that figure.
It could be the person who betrayed me or someone planning to attack me. Seraphine knows my identity, but she’s not strong enough.
So she’s not strong enough to hide her face from me on camera or otherwise.
Then I explained the transformations of the spirit to Cain; it might help.
"Hmm, but why should the lion become a child? That’s ridiculous!!!" Cain was completely in the lion stage right now.
The illusion world slowly disappeared, and we reappeared in the room.
I started walking and stopped in front of the window. "What can a child do that a lion’s strength can’t? Why should a predatory lion become a child? Because childhood is innocence, forgetting, and a new beginning. It’s a wheel that turns on its own, a first movement, a ’yes’ to the game of creation."
I was being dramatic, but that’s what it is.
Cain fell silent and slowly came to my side.
He offered me a cigarette; I took it. "You speak well, Raul."
"Thanks, Cain. For me, you’re a lion."
He slapped my back.
"Cut the jokes, you bastard," he said and burst out laughing.
"Kynar couldn’t leave his regrets behind, but I did. Because even if life is meaningless, once you give it a purpose, you never hate living," he said.
I sighed. "I hope I find mine soon."
"It’s not hard, kid. Let me give you advice: first of all, you have to think about yourself. Don’t make others the purpose of your life, because when those bonds break, you become a man falling off a cliff. Do you want power? Chase it sincerely. But know this: when you accept and embrace everything, good or bad, that’s when you reach the childhood stage you mentioned."
"Thanks, Cain. That was really helpful."
"Hmm, no big deal. Just don’t think too much, young man."
We stood all that night discussing and sharing our thoughts.
He gave me advice.
Thanks, proffesor cain....
