Chapter 84: Chapter 84: By My Side (III)

Kael snorted. "You truly have no fear, huh? You’re the first woman to ride on my back, and you still dare to ask me to lower myself like a fucking horse!?"

"Well, if you don’t want to, then I can walk," Sisi shrugged. "Besides, it was your offer in the first place. I never asked for it."

"You—tsk!"

Kael finally lowered his head so Sisi could grab his fur and climb onto his back. She settled comfortably behind his nape with Jojo.

Sisi gently rubbed Kael’s fur and said softly, "Don’t go too fast, okay? I’m scared I might fall."

Kael gritted his teeth, "I do whatever I want. So just hang on tight if you don’t want to fall."

He noticed Grishaw and his subordinate staring at him with their mouths hanging open, as if they had witnessed something unbelievable.

"What are you looking at?!" Kael snapped.

The eagle beastmen immediately lowered their heads in fear.

They knew that just because the Beast King was willing to lower himself for this woman did not mean he was any less powerful. The woman and the little prince were exceptions and everyone else still stood far beneath him.

"N-nothing, My King! W-we will scout the area immediately. Please excuse us!"

Grishaw and his subordinate shifted into their eagle forms and fled at once.

"Kael, are you... really sure?" Sisi asked quietly. "They looked at us like they’d seen ghosts. You’re still the revered Beast King after all. I don’t want your image to be tainted because of this."

"Shut up," Kael replied curtly. "I’m not doing this because I favor you. I don’t want you causing trouble again, so I’m keeping you by my side at all times."

"Sisi won’t cause trouble, Daddy!" Jojo immediately defended her. He looked up at Sisi with a bright smile. "I wasn’t lying when I said Daddy is kind, right? He even lets you ride him with me!"

"Mhm, your Daddy sure is kind," Sisi chuckled.

"I said, shut up!"

Kael leapt forward, taking off toward the north—toward the Beast Kingdom.

"Wha—!"

Sisi instinctively lowered her body and wrapped her arms around Kael’s neck to steady herself.

Jojo was squeezed between Sisi’s chest and his father’s thick fur. He wriggled desperately, managing only to pop his head out so he could gulp in air.

"Daddy! Why are you going so fast?!" he complained.

"So you two will shut up and let me focus on getting us home!" Kael replied as he sprinted through the woods. "Hold on tight, son!"

"I don’t need to hold on! Sisi is holding too tight—urk! I’m getting squished!"

Kael chuckled at that. He could feel Sisi’s tight grip around his neck and imagined Jojo struggling between them. It would be an amusing sight, pity that he couldn’t see them right now.

Then he sprinted even faster.

"Kael! Slow down, I’m scared!" Sisi yelled, hugging his neck tighter—almost as if she hoped to choke him into slowing down.

Unfortunately, his powerful muscles barely registered her grip. To him, it felt more like an embrace, so he didn’t slow down at all.

"Ahhh! Daddy, slow down! Sisi, stop hugging Daddy so tightly—Jojo is getting squished!"

"I can’t! This is too scary!" Sisi cried as she squeezed her eyes shut when the mad wolf had taken a shortcut, leaping across a frozen river.

The river was wide, its surface coated in a thin layer of ice. With every landing, Sisi heard sharp cracks as the ice shattered beneath Kael’s paws.

But he was moving so fast that he had already leapt away before the ice could fully break.

Sisi trembled as she imagined what would happen if they fell into the freezing water. She couldn’t swim, so falling in would mean certain death.

Kael sensed her fear as they crossed the river and scowled inwardly.

’She’s more afraid of falling into the river than of being killed by me. Am I losing my touch... or something is just wrong with her brain?’

When he finally landed safely on the other side, he didn’t slow down.

Seeing her so frightened by his speed was oddly amusing—and comforting—especially when she tightened her hold around his neck as if he were the only thing keeping her safe.

’This is just a little revenge for all the stunts you’ve pulled so far,’ Kael thought, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. In his wolf form, however, it still looked menacing. ’Let’s see if you’re still smug when we reach my kingdom.’

The eagle beastmen flew ahead, scouting the area to ensure there were no hidden threats. Once finished, they would perch nearby to wait for their king to cross them, then they had to fly scout again.

But Kael’s incredible speed left them little time to rest.

Watching the Beast King sprint through the forest with a woman and the little prince riding atop him felt... surreal.

"General," Grishaw’s subordinate murmured, "Is it just me... or does our king look like he’s enjoying this? He seems happy with that woman hugging his neck. Is he... in love? I’m afraid we have found our queen."

"Don’t spout nonsense," Grishaw retorted. "Didn’t you see how furious he was with her earlier?"

"But he pardoned her crime in the end..."

"That’s because of the little prince," Grishaw sighed. "In the future, we must stay on the little prince’s good side—and perhaps that woman’s as well. He’ll rule the kingdom one day, and I doubt he will treat that woman any less than a mother in the future."

"But I haven’t seen him show any strength yet, General. Aside from his striking fur, he doesn’t seem particularly powerful," the subordinate pointed out. "Will he be able to control all the beastmen in the kingdom? We all worship strength after all..."

"He’s still young," Grishaw replied. "Our king said he’s not even five yet."

He glanced ahead and realized the Beast King had already sprinted past them.

"At this pace, we’ll reach the kingdom by morning. Let’s go, we need to scout again."

"Yes, sir!"

The eagles flapped their wings and surged ahead of their king.
