Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Are you really my Daddy?

Jojo fell silent instantly upon seeing that pair of crimson eyes.

He had been struggling to break free from Sisi’s arms before, but now he suddenly stopped.

All he could do was stare at Kael’s crimson eyes as they stared back at him.

Realizing the change, Kael quickly lowered his tone to make himself less threatening to his son and said, "It’s still me, Jojo. Even if my eye color has changed, I’m still your Daddy."

"B-but... you look so scary. Are you really my Daddy?" Jojo asked hesitantly. "I-I remember him having dark eyes. He didn’t look as... scary... like a demon."

Kael’s lips twitched when Jojo compared him to a demon simply because his eyes were a different color.

But he wasn’t angry. He himself had once seen his reflection in the surface of a lake after he accepted his curse, and recoiled at the sight of his crimson eyes. They truly inspired fear in other beastmen, who trembled when Kael looked at them, even when Kael wasn’t trying to intimidate anyone.

Yet these were his real eyes, the ones he had been born with.

When he had been nothing more than a lone wolf, cast away by his own pack, these eyes had become a bad omen and he became a scourge, until he learned how to hide them by rejecting the Dusk Star within him.

Now that he had finally accepted his fate as a cursed being, he no longer needed to restrain himself or hide his bloodlust—or his crimson gaze.

"These are my real eyes, Jojo. Something happened after we got separated, but I’m still the same," Kael said with a sigh. "I searched for you everywhere. I’m glad that you are safe. Now come, let’s go home."

He tried to force a smile to lower Jojo’s guard, but perhaps because his murderous aura was still too thick from chasing the bastard who had kidnapped his son, the smile twisted into something far more menacing.

Now, he looked like a child-eating demon.

Jojo shuddered at the sight of his red eyes and twisted smile. Usually, his father would kneel in front of him, open his arms, and wait patiently for Jojo to come to him—not stand tall and intimidating like this demon-like figure.

Terrified, Jojo buried himself back into Sisi’s embrace and cried out, "Y-you’re not my Daddy! My Daddy isn’t that scary!"

The smirk vanished from Kael’s face instantly.

He hadn’t expected a simple smile to frighten his son so badly. His mood darkened further when he saw Jojo choose to hide in the arms of a random woman while Kael himself had been dying every day trying to find him.

Kael glared at Sisi, making her shudder.

She had never seen anyone as terrifying as the man before her. The fact that his mood could shift so violently simply because Jojo rejected him spoke volumes about his true nature.

He wasn’t as gentle as Jojo described him to be. No, Sisi felt that he was far from gentle.

"What have you done to my son?" Kael demanded coldly. "He wouldn’t fear his own father if you and this damned tiger hadn’t filled his head with lies."

Those words ignited Sisi’s fury.

She had painstakingly raised Jojo with love and care, and being accused like this made her blood boil. A surge of courage rose from her heart as she snapped back.

"And what have you done to him?" she shot back. "He has always spoken kindly of his father—but you?" She narrowed her eyes, suspicion filling her gaze. "Who are you? You’re not his father."

"I AM HIS FATHER!" Kael roared.

His voice thundered through the forest, loud enough to pierce even the raging blizzard.

Kael lost all composure. This woman dared to question his love and his identity after everything he had sacrificed.

He had accepted a curse so Jojo wouldn’t die with him. He had given up his dignity and his fated mate—the last things he had left after losing his son—all for Jojo’s survival.

How dare she question his love for his son?

"Give him to me!" Kael demanded. "You’ve hurt him enough!"

Jojo whimpered at the sound of Kael shouting at Sisi. At that moment, he truly believed this man was not his father. His real father had been gentle. And Sisi was the gentlest person he had ever known. It was impossible for his father to yell at such a kind woman who saved him.

Sisi began trembling as Kael’s dark aura became visible around him. Her first instinct was to run, but fear rooted her in place. Looking into those crimson eyes left her unable to move.

Kael reached out, ready to snatch Jojo from her arms—

"SISI, RUN!" Marik roared.

The shout snapped Sisi out of her paralysis. Panic and resolve surged together as she realized she didn’t know what would happen if Jojo fell into this man’s hands.

She leaned back, dodged Kael’s grasp, and leapt off Marik’s back.

Stumbling a few steps to steady herself, she clutched Jojo tightly while glancing between Kael and Marik, torn between fleeing and staying—because Marik would have to face this monster alone.

"Don’t worry about me!" Marik said. "I’ll hold him off! Jojo’s safety comes first. GO!"

"I’m sorry, Marik!" Sisi cried through gritted teeth as she turned and ran.

She fled into the forest with everything she had, ignoring the biting cold of the blizzard. Her only thought was to never let go of Jojo.

Kael snarled, ready to pursue, but Marik shifted fully into his beast form, blocking Kael’s path.

His claws unsheathed, amber eyes blazing with hostility equal to Kael’s.

"Over my dead body, you wretched bastard!" Marik lunged forward, attacking first to buy as much time as possible for Sisi. He had no idea how long he could last against Kael, now that the wolf had become the Dusk Star.

Kael clicked his tongue.

He glanced over his shoulder at Grishaw and the eagle envoy, who had been watching in frozen terror. None of them dared move under the crushing weight of their king’s aura.

"What are you waiting for?!" Kael shouted an order. "After that woman!"
