Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 239: Grandma (II)
It took a moment for Sisi to recognize this woman as her grandmother. After all, Sisi had never met her before, and the way she tried to present herself as a regular old lady was definitely out of her expectation.
Especially since Sisi got used to talking with her Grandma in a tree form, so she really thought her grandmother was just a talking tree without a real body.
"What’s with your face, dearest? Is this not to your liking? Should I imitate a younger body? Or an even older one? I can imitate the body of a 120-year-old woman. Though, you might have to carry me around because I can’t walk in that form."
"I-I think this is just fine, Grandma. I was just surprised since we got used to talking with you as a tree," Sisi said. "Though, I wouldn’t mind if you show me your true appearance."
"My true appearance? Hmm..." Grandma scrunched her face as if she was thinking hard and then shook her head. "I don’t remember my true appearance, dearest. I’ve been living for thousands of years that I lost track of time. I changed my appearance many times to ease my boredom in here. But I remember that your late mother liked to hug me in this form of an elderly lady, because it made her feel safe."
"But if you don’t want to hug me in this form, then just tell me what you want me to look like. As long as I make my dearest granddaughter comfortable," Grandma added.
Sisi couldn’t help but smile, thinking that Grandma Tree actually wanted to change her appearance just so Sisi could accept her. She then took a step forward and hugged the old lady.
"It’s okay, Grandma. I guess I’m no different from my mother, because I also like hugging you."
Yes, Sisi genuinely liked hugging this old woman, because she reminded her of the matriarch in the orphanage. She was already a middle-aged woman when Sisi left the orphanage, so by this point, she would’ve been in her 60s, not that far from Grandma Tree.
Grandma dropped her cane and hugged Sisi back. "Oh, dearest, you don’t know how much I missed hugging you. I’ve only hugged you once when you were just born, and then your father took you away from me..."
"Huh—? My dad took me away?"
"Yes, it’s a long story. But... before I can tell you, I’d like you to confirm something first," Grandma said. "Sisi, my dearest granddaughter, have you... been close to the cursed beings, the Dusk and Dawn Stars of this era?"
That question was like thunder on a clear sky, because Sisi didn’t expect Grandma Tree to find out immediately before she could say anything.
At first, Sisi planned to ease up with Grandma first before telling the truth about Kael and Jojo. But since she already knew about it, then there was no need to hide anymore.
"How did you know, Grandma?"
"Your body reeked of their scent, darling..." Grandma sighed. "The Dusk and Dawn Stars can be of any beastman species, but they always have a similar scent in every incarnation, because technically they are the same beings who went through numerous incarnations to fulfill their duty to bear the darkness inside Roc Forest."
"T-then, if that’s the case, I have nothing to hide anymore, Grandma. I’ll tell you everything about them and my relationship with them, as well as the request I have," Sisi said.
"Then, let’s talk near the Origin Spring. You can also drink before telling me the story, since you must’ve been very thirsty after a long journey, my dearest," Grandma said before leading Sisi toward the Origin Spring.
Sisi helped the old woman sit next to the spring before sitting down herself. Then, Grandma pointed at the spring and said, "Scoop yourself some water, dearest. You are my granddaughter, the darling of the earth, so the spring is free for you to drink."
Sisi understood the implication, but she preferred to feign her ignorance and scooped some water with her hands to drink.
Just as she expected, the water from Origin Spring truly had a magical effect, because other than relieving her thirst, Sisi could feel the surge of strength returning to her body. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
She became invigorated, to the point that she felt she could control the trees in the entire Roc Forest at will.
On top of that, the pain on her back after traveling nonstop for a long time was gone. She felt at her best now!
"Grandma, this water is—"
"—Miraculous?" Grandma smiled. "Origin Spring is water from heaven. It is the source of life for me—the Origin Tree. I was just a small seed before the goddesses gave me the Origin Spring, so I could grow until I became... well, until I became your Grandma!"
"This spring has many beneficial effects for our kin, Mother Nature and its darling granddaughters. You’re free to drink anytime you want, and it would grant you immortality as long as you drink it every single day."
Sisi was amazed by the effect. She was about to ask if it could heal Jojo as well, but Grandma’s face suddenly became solemn as she added:
"However, we are not allowed to give it to someone else, not even the faeries. Because this spring is meant for us."
Sisi’s heart sank upon hearing that. Of course, she had no intention of becoming immortal, because for her, the essence of life lay in its time limit.
You’d appreciate life if you knew you’d die eventually.
"Looking at your expression, I guess you came here for this water, right, dearest?"
Sisi felt a little guilty because Grandma Tree was so genuine toward her, yet the first thing she wanted to do here was to get the water from Origin Spring rather than spending time with her.
"Oh, don’t look so down, dearest. I am not angry at you. I’m just... scared," Grandma sighed. She lowered her gaze and stared at the bottomless spring. "I’m scared that I’d lose you, dearest."
