Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 143: The Unassuming Maid Wanting the Boy’s Heart (I)
Kael was instantly reminded of Diane’s words from earlier.
"Mistress Sisi is young and unmarried. She may stay for the little prince—but what if she finds someone she loves someday? Would you... let her go?"
And then Jojo’s quiet question echoed in his mind.
"Daddy... do you think Sisi will like another man?"
The questions had been asked so casually.
Yet they pierced Kael’s heart.
Because he didn’t know what he would do if Sisi chose another man.
Would he let her go? Allow her to build a new life somewhere else?
No.
If Sisi dared to leave him for another man, Kael knew he would turn the entire Roc Forest upside down to drag her back—and slaughter the bastard who touched her.
But what if she resisted?
...
Kael refused to finish that thought.
His imagination was already cruel enough.
Like a mad beast driven beyond reason, stripped of patience and restraint, Kael knew he might fall back on instinct alone.
And his instinct was never gentle.
He rose abruptly from the bed, startling Jojo.
"Where are you going, Daddy?"
"I’ll check on that young panther," Kael replied calmly—but his eyes churned with barely contained fury. "I need to make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid."
He avoided looking at his son.
Jojo would cry if he saw his eyes like this, just as he had during the blizzard.
"You stay here with Sisi and her maid," Kael said. "I’ll be back."
"O-Okay..."
Jojo sensed his father’s rage, but didn’t dare ask why.
Once, he had told Sisi that Daddy might not be his real Daddy—because Kael had never shown this kind of anger before.
He had always been calm. Even when facing enemies, he remained composed unless Jojo was threatened.
Jojo had once thought his father might be a demon wearing his Daddy’s face.
But Sisi had assured him otherwise. Even if his eye colors had changed, Kael was still Jojo’s Daddy.
’I should trust Sisi. She’s never wrong,’ Jojo told himself as he nestled closer to her side. ’Daddy is Daddy, not a demon. Right, Sisi?’
After the Beast King left the chamber, Leah stepped closer and stood beside the bed.
She offered Jojo her warmest smile. "My Prince, are you hungry? I can prepare something for you."
Jojo shook his head. "I’ll eat after Sisi wakes up."
"That may take a while, My Prince," Leah coaxed gently. "Why don’t you have a light bite while waiting? I’m sure the mistress would feel sad if you starved because of her."
Her persuasion eventually wore him down. Besides, the gluttonous Jojo wouldn’t survive without constant food.
Jojo nodded and sat up on the bed, looking at her expectantly. "Umm... I want a snack. Like... a bird. Or a bunny!"
"Of course," Leah replied. She left the chamber and returned shortly after with a freshly slaughtered rabbit.
Jojo nibbled at the bunny’s neck, his eyes never leaving Sisi’s sleeping face.
"Don’t sleep too long, Sisi," he murmured softly. "I’m scared..."
Leah watched him closely.
She knew she had to warm up to the boy whenever she had the chance. Opportunities to be this close to him were rare, but once he trusted her, she believed they would have all the time in the world as a mother and son, or as a couple.
As Jojo absentmindedly sucked on the rabbit’s bone, Leah studied his face. The little prince had the potential to grow into a strikingly handsome man—perhaps even surpassing his father.
Kael and Jojo barely resembled each other. If not for their obvious bond, many would doubt they were related at all.
Most believed Jojo took after his late mother. His mother must have dark blue eyes and white hair with platinum coating. No wonder such beauty would capture the Beast King’s heart.
’I wouldn’t lose much by becoming his bride in the future,’ Leah thought coolly. ’Or better yet—mate with the Beast King first. Then, once he retires, mate with his son.’
’That way, I’d remain queen for two generations,’ Leah added. ’My son from Kael will be the king for the third generation, and my son with Jojo will be the king of fourth generation.’
She almost drooled before shaking her head, not because she found anything wrong with the plan, but because she didn’t want to indulge in fantasy just yet. Not until she had secured both father and son.
"My Prince," Leah said softly as she crouched before him, resting a hand on his knee. She studied his dark blue eyes, wondering how brilliant they would be when he grew older. "Do you remember my name? My name is—"
"Leah," Jojo replied flatly.
There was no emotion in his eyes. He looked at her as though she were just another faceless maid.
Leah wasn’t angry, but she was irritated as she realized the boy had inherited his father’s coldness.
Like Kael, Jojo viewed people as things—useful or useless. He was only kind to those who mattered to him.
It would take a lot of effort to soften him and the Beast King.
But Leah remembered how fiercely loyal Jojo was to Sisi. Once she replaced that devotion, controlling him would be easy.
Maintaining her smile, Leah nodded. "Yes, My Prince. My name is Leah. I just wanted you to know that you’ll be seeing me often."
"Mm."
Jojo immediately turned away, his gaze fixed on Sisi once more, as though nothing else in the world mattered.
Leah’s patience thinned as she was ignored once again.
"My Prince," she tried again, "since we’re waiting, why don’t we play a little game? I can bring you some toys—"
"No," Jojo replied curtly. "I need to watch over Sisi until she opens her eyes."
"But we’re in the palace," Leah assured him. "There’s no bad person here as long as your father is the king."
Jojo shook his head adamantly. "Sisi needs me to protect her."
Then he turned to Leah, clearly annoyed by her constant rambling.
"You’re noisy. Go away. Don’t disturb Sisi and Jojo."
