Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 138: An Exercise of Power
"If only you had known your place and not defied me in the first place," Kael said coolly. "Things wouldn’t have ended like this."
"I... regret nothing, My King," Garou replied. "I only wished to protect you from being controlled by a witch. You are the king I worship, and I want it to stay that way."
Garou was looking at Kael with eyes full of reverence, then continued, "If possible, may I ask one final thing?"
"Speak," Kael ordered.
"Please bury me within the palace grounds," Garou said humbly. "Anywhere will do. There is no need for a tombstone. I only wish for my soul to guard this palace after death."
It was a modest request from a young man who could have achieved so much more.
Kael felt an unexpected discomfort settle in his chest.
This wasn’t the show he had intended. He wanted Garou’s death to be humiliating, so it could be an example that would instill fear and obedience among the crowd.
Yet faced with a warrior who accepted death with dignity, Kael found himself unable to refuse.
He nodded. "I promise you will be buried within the palace. You may be treacherous when you’re alive, but your soul will atone your sin by guarding these walls for eternity."
Garou smiled faintly and extended his neck, bracing himself for a swift end.
The training grounds fell silent as Kael raised his hand, ready to deliver a clean blow with the edge of his palm. If Kael moved his hand fast enough, even the edge of his palm could be sharper than any blade.
He was about to execute Garou when a vine burst from the ground and coiled tightly around his wrist.
"What are you doing, Kael?"
Kael turned and saw Sisi approaching with Jojo in her arms. Her eyes blazed as another vine lashed out, wrapping around the same wrist.
Unfortunately, she knew brute restraint wouldn’t be enough. Kael was far too strong.
Gasps rippled through the crowd when the witch they feared suddenly appeared in the training ground.
Kael hadn’t told Sisi about the whole problem, because he knew she would oppose him. But he guessed that Vestor must’ve reported it.
He intentionally kept Sisi in the dark about the brutal execution, not out of softness—but because her human morals clashed sharply with beastman law.
Executing a defiant subordinate was acceptable among beastmen.
But to humans, it was a monstrous act.
Kael flexed his arm, and the vines snapped instantly, as if they were as fragile as thread.
"I’m disciplining a defiant subordinate," he replied casually. "Why are you here? There’s nothing entertaining to see."
"Discipline by killing him?" Sisi sneered. "And Jojo is here. I don’t think it’s a good idea to kill someone in front of him."
Kael almost laughed upon hearing that threat. Sisi must’ve thought that Jojo was a boy who wouldn’t understand the situation.
He looked at his son and smiled. "What do you think, Jojo? This warrior refused to acknowledge my will because he believes your Daddy is controlled by a witch."
"So I must kill him," Kael said calmly. "Am I doing the right thing?"
Sisi stiffened.
She didn’t want Kael to shape Jojo through bloodshed.
Sisi knew that violence was inevitable for a king—but Jojo should be better than Kael when he eventually took the throne.
She wanted him to be a reasonable ruler, one who would execute only when the crime was truly unforgivable, not simply because he felt like it.
"Don’t listen to him, Jojo," she said firmly. "What he’s doing is wrong. There’s no reason to kill someone when the offense isn’t even that grave."
"But, Sisi..." Jojo looked at her with wide, innocent eyes. "Isn’t it right to eliminate your enemy before they become a threat? Daddy isn’t wrong..."
Kael smirked. "You hear that? This is how beasts survive, Sisi. We don’t let treacherous thoughts take root inside the tribe—or the tribe will rot from within."
Sisi was stunned.
She knew Jojo was young, that Kael’s words were like law that he needed to follow word-to-word.
Still, it disturbed her deeply.
Jojo noticed the shock on her face. He tightened his grip around her neck. "Sisi... did I say something wrong?"
In his mind, his father was protecting Sisi. Because if someone dared to say bad things about her, then they deserved to be dead!
But if Sisi didn’t like his answer, he would act on it, change it to make Sisi happy—fake it, if necessary.
In fact, the boy had already prepared several more answers in his head—anything that might make Sisi smile at him.
Sisi opened her mouth, but no words came.
Jojo wasn’t entirely wrong.
But they had to draw a line somewhere.
If a king killed on a whim over mere disagreement, he would rule through fear rather than respect.
And a ruler who relied on fear would inevitably be overthrown.
No matter how powerful Kael was, those he governed through terror would one day grow weary—waiting for his death before turning their spears on Jojo instead.
Kael clicked his tongue, impatience creeping into his expression.
"They believe you’ve bewitched me," he said. "So I’ll show them I’m far stronger than any witch’s charm."
"By killing him?" Sisi shot back.
"Yes," Kael replied without hesitation. "So they learn their place."
He believed he was right, and hoped Sisi would praise him.
Unfortunately, Sisi showed no appreciation to what he was doing.
Nevertheless, Kael lifted his hand again.
He was driven by instinct, by dominance, by the need to prove his strength before her, like a male beast trying to woo a female by showing his prowess.
Sisi inhaled sharply before Kael could deliver the killing blow.
Vines erupted from the ground, one after another, wrapping around Kael’s arms, torso, and legs.
She didn’t stop. She exerted all her power until roots cracked stone. Branches stretched unnaturally. Trees bent toward the training grounds as if answering her call.
In moments, Kael was bound from head to toe.
The Beast King was restrained, but he didn’t show any fear even if Sisi tried to tighten the restraint.
"What do you want, Sisi?" Kael asked calmly.
