Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 119: Dreaming of A Faerie (I)
Jojo had been playing with a uniquely shaped rock he’d found in the cave while waiting for his father. His father had said he would return after dusk, but when Jojo woke at dusk, his father was nowhere to be seen.
Still, Jojo wasn’t all that surprised. When it was just the two of them, Jojo often waited in their hard-to-reach caves, playing with whatever he could find until his father returned—with a hunt... or with wounds covering his body.
"I hope Daddy is okay..." Jojo muttered as he waited patiently. He set his toy rock aside and sat, staring at the cave entrance.
The moon was surprisingly beautiful tonight, so he padded closer to the entrance and sat there. The cold wind brushed against him as he waited, prompting Jojo to shift into his wolf cub form for warmth.
"I wonder what Sisi is doing now. Does she miss me?" he pondered softly. "Jojo misses her already..."
Jojo wasn’t used to being alone after living with Sisi for a while. Unlike his father, Sisi always brought him along when she went to gather plants around the forest.
He preferred that life over the lonely wait in the cave, even though he understood it was for his safety.
Daddy always said there were too many beastmen who wanted them dead, so it was safer for him to stay hidden.
"But I can fight too! I even hunt deer yearlings now!" Jojo boasted to himself, feeling strong enough to be his father’s little assistant.
"What are you doing here?"
Jojo’s eyes widened as his father suddenly leaped and landed right in front of him at the summit in his wolf form. His thick, dark fur and crimson eyes were intimidating, and Jojo wouldn’t lie that he was still a little scared after his father’s eyes had changed.
But Sisi had said that he was still his father, just with different eyes. Jojo believed in Sisi more than his own fear, so he gathered his courage.
"Daddy!" Jojo scampered forward on his short legs and looked up at him. "Where have you been? I’ve been waiting for so long. Even my toy rock isn’t fun anymore!"
"Hrm. I was busy with kingdom matters," Kael said half-truthfully. "And don’t worry about Sisi. She’s staying in the best courtyard in the palace."
"Yay! Thank you, Daddy!" Jojo rubbed his head against Kael’s front leg."But... why do I smell trees and rivers on you, Daddy? Did you go into the woods without me?"
Jojo pouted, once again feeling that he could be a good assistant rather than staying alone in the cave.
Kael stiffened instantly. "O-oh. Yes. I was patrolling outside the kingdom to make sure there would be no invasion."
"Really?"
"Really. Now let’s go back to the cave and sleep. Daddy’s a little tired."
"But Daddy, you didn’t get tired when carrying Sisi and me before..."
Kael nearly bit his tongue. He hadn’t expected Jojo to be so observant, and he blamed Sisi for teaching the boy to notice his surroundings.
Well, it was a good lesson, but if Jojo became too smart before he reached an age of understanding, it would be hard for Kael to lie to the boy.
"Tsk. I’m tired now. Let’s go, Jojo."
"Mm!"
They lay down in the cave. Kael curled up in his beast form, while the small white wolf burrowed against him for warmth and comfort. When it was just the two of them, they always slept in beast form during winter, and in their beastman forms during summer heat.
Unfortunately, Jojo couldn’t fall asleep easily after napping half the day.
He tossed and turned until he couldn’t help to ask;
"Daddy... do you think Sisi will like it here?"
"She has the best courtyard in the entire kingdom, much better than ours. Why wouldn’t she want to stay?"
"I don’t know... but I feel like Sisi won’t stay," Jojo murmured.
Kael opened his eyes and looked at his son. "What makes you say that? Did she ever tell you that she wanted to leave?"
Jojo shook his head.
"Then you have nothing to worry about," Kael said firmly.
"But sometimes I dream that Sisi leaves me," Jojo whispered. "She flies far, far away... but I don’t have wings, so I can’t chase her."
"That’s just a nightmare," Kael replied quietly. "Go to sleep. It’s late."
"Mm... good night, Daddy..."
Jojo soon drifted off.
Kael, however, couldn’t sleep.
He knew Sisi had no real attachment to him, or to the Beast Kingdom.
Her only attachment was Jojo, and when Jojo became an adult, she would leave.
She had every right to, since she wasn’t even a beastman.
And yet... Kael felt reluctant. He wanted her to stay within his sight, bound to their lives.
’Is this because Jojo doesn’t want to be separated from her...or because I don’t want to let her go?’
He had no answer to that simple question.
But he decided to let go of this worry.
Jojo was still only four. It would be at least a decade before he was recognized as a young adult. Until then, Sisi wouldn’t leave him.
That thought finally eased Kael’s mind and he finally closed his eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.
As sleep claimed him, he hoped he wouldn’t dream of his fated mate again as he didn’t want to show a face full of agony in front of Jojo. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
But he did.
The moment he opened his eyes, he stood before the same giant tree that had swallowed her in his previous dream.
But his fated mate was nowhere to be seen. So, Kael began to look around desperately, searching for her.
Then the branches trembled, and hundreds of colorful petals rained down.
From within them, a silhouette descended and a human-sized faerie suddenly landed into his embrace and hugged him tightly.
Her purple wings quivered as she could finally embrace Kael.
Meanwhile, Kael stood petrified for a good while before he silently wrapped his arms around her waist.
"You’ve finally found me, Kael," his fated mate whispered. "I’m so happy."
